For vibration control of stay cables in cable-stayed bridges, viscous dampers are frequently used, and they are regularly installed between the cable and the bridge deck. In practice, neoprene rubber bushings (or of other types) are also widely installed inside the cable guide pipe, mainly for reducing the bending stresses of the cable near its anchorages. Therefore, it is important to understand the effect of the bushings on the performance of the external damper. Besides, for long cables, external dampers installed at a single position near a cable end can no longer provide enough damping due to the sag effect and the limited installation distance. It is thus of interest to improve cable damping by additionally installing dampers inside the guide pipe. This paper hence studies the combined effects of an external damper and an internal damper (which can also model the bushings) on a stay cable. The internal damper is assumed to be a High Damping Rubber (HDR) damper, and the external damper is considered to be a viscous damper with intrinsic stiffness, and the cable sag is also considered. Both the cases when the two dampers are installed close to one cable end and respectively close to the two cable ends are studied. Asymptotic design formulas are derived for both cases considering that the dampers are close to the cable ends. It is shown that when the two dampers are placed close to different cable ends, their combined damping effects are approximately the sum of their separate contributions, regardless of small cable sag and damper intrinsic stiffness. When the two dampers are installed close to the same end, maximum damping that can be achieved by the external damper is generally degraded, regardless of properties of the HDR damper. Field tests on an existing cable-stayed bridge have further validated the influence of the internal damper on the performance of the external damper. The results suggest that the HDR is optimally placed in the guide pipe of the cable-pylon anchorage when installing viscous dampers at one position is insufficient. When an HDR damper or the bushing has to be installed near the external damper, their combined damping effects need to be evaluated using the presented methods.

In this study, an incremental loading test of the HRS(Hybrid Rubber Slit) damper was additionally performed to define the physical characteristics according to the incremental test results, and an analytical study was performed according to the damping design procedure by selecting an example structure. As a result of performing seismic performance evaluation before reinforcement by selecting a RC structure similar to an actual school structure as an example structure, the story drift ratio was satisfied, but some column members collapsed due to bending deformation. In order to secure the seismic performance, the damping design procedure of the HRS damper was presented and performed. As a result of calculating the amount of damping device according to the expected damping ratio and applying it to the example structure, the hysteresis behavior was stable without decrease in strength, and the story drift ratio and the shear force were reduced according to the damping effect. Finally the column members that had collapsed before reinforcement satisfied the LS Level.
This paper reported test of full-scale cables attached with four types of dampers: viscous damper, passive Magneto-Rheological (MR) damper, friction damper and High Damping Rubber (HDR) damper. The logarithmic decrements of the cable with attached dampers were calculated from free vibration time history. The efficiency ratios of the mean damping ratios of the tested four dampers to theoretical maximum damping ratio were derived, which was very important for practical damper design and parameter optimization. Non-ideal factors affecting damper performance were discussed based on the test results. The effects of concentrated mass and negative stiffness were discussed in detail and compared theoretically. Approximate formulations were derived and verified using numerical solutions. The critical values for non-dimensional concentrated mass coefficient and negative stiffness were identified. Efficiency ratios were approximately 0.6, 0.6, and 0.3 for the viscous damper, passive MR damper and HDR damper, respectively. The efficiency ratio for the friction damper was between 0-1.0. The effects of concentrated mass and negative stiffness on cable damping were positive as both could increase damping ratio; the concentrated mass was more effective than negative stiffness for higher vibration modes.

The damper oil seal of a high-speed railway vehicle is made from nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) in order to prevent lubricant from leaking into the damper and to stop harmful contaminants from entering the external environment while in service. Oil leakage through the seal primarily occurs from fatigue failure of the damper. Cumulative damage of the seal occurs due to the contact force between the rod and the rubber during movement due to track irregularities and cants, among other factors. Thus, the design of the oil seal should minimize the maximum principal strain at weak points. In this study, the optimal cross section of the damper oil seal was found using the multi-island genetic algorithm method to improve the durability of the damper. The optimal shape of the oil seal was derived using process automation and design optimization software. Nonlinear material properties for finite element analysis (FEA) of the rubber were determined by Marlow's model. The nonlinear FEA confirmed that the maximum principal strain at the oil leakage point was decreased 24% between the initial design and the optimum design.

As a seismic damper the viscoelastic damper is known the effective method to control the drift of the flexible building. As the viscoelastic damper has the characteristics of both damping and stiffness specially when the rubber material used hysteretic damping. The behavior of the hysteretic damping is quite different from that of the viscous damping. For the evaluation of the viscoelastic damper for the seismic purpose the nonlinear response spectrum was generated based on the dynamic test of the viscoelastic damper and the results is compared to that of the typical linear response spectrum,

In modern times, with advances in semiconductor technology such as electronic devices, the need to improve the quality of onboard equipment with advanced electronic parts in automobiles, drones, airplanes, projectiles, and various fields, and reduce the impact of various disturbances on onboard equipment is becoming more important. Vibration control through hardware must be determined to prevent damage and improve quality to equipment operating in various environments such as automobiles, drones, airplanes, and projectiles. This study focuses on the study of vibration damping systems to protect mounted equipment from various disturbances and improve stability. Dynamic characteristics analysis, including compressive stiffness, damping rate, and frequency response, and vibration characteristics in the frequency domain of rubber dampers were identified through FEM analysis to identify the characteristics of rubber dampers. Through these findings, we would like to present the criteria for selecting a suitable rubber damper under various disturbance conditions.

In this study, a transfemoral prosthesis system of which stance phase and swing phase are controlled during walking has been developed for the recovery of the biomechanical function of the amputated leg. It consists of a 5 bar link mechanism, a hydraulic-rubber knee damper for stance phase control and a pneumatic cylinder controlled via a microprocessor for stance phase control. The mechanical characteristics and behaviour of the knee damper which absorbs the impact energy generated at the heel contact was investigated. The characteristics of the pneumatic cylinder essential for the speed adaptation of the prosthesis during swing phase was also studied for its mechanical characteristics. The prosthesis was subject to the clinical test ant the gait characteristics obtained were very close to those of normal. The stance and swing controlled prosthesis that were developed in this study showed good stability during the stance phase and showed good controllability during the swing phase.

The railroad bogie's components experience repeated loading during service. Especially, oil damper bush has been fatigue fractured on the plane between rubber and steel stem during service, and which results in inferior of performance of the bogie. In this study, in order to offer a proper maintenance method of the bush, bubber bush used for the oil damper was fatigue tested and its damage fraction during service was estimated. Also, FEM analysis on the bush was conducted. When 1400, 1200, and 1000kgf of repeated loads were applied to the oil damper bush, final damage fraction exhibited 63.7%, 50% and 40%. From the results of FEM analysis, deformation energy density was found to be $0.5452kgf/mm^{2}$ at an applied load of 1400kgf and the location with maximum value coincided with the fractured location of the bush. Finally, it will be desirable to adopt the normalized damage fraction rather than absolute damage fraction in estimating remaining service lifetime of the bush.
Electric power is generated by Seeback Effect if there is thermal difference in pettier module. Peltier module is composed by alumina, Bi-Te semiconductor and insulation (or air). If load is increased in pettier module, the alumina of module will be destroyed. One of the preventing method of module destruction is using damper between module and heat source. But the electric Power is dropped because of decrease of thermal difference, if thermal conductivity of damper was tourer than other thermoelectric materials. We design, Polymer Pad for enhancing thermoelectric porter. As the result of these experiment, Polymer Pad is more superior than the Rubber in the stability and thermal conduction.

This paper presents a hybrid rubber mount with magnet to isolate effectively the vibration in vehicle, forklift, and so on. The hybrid mount does not have any controller of the magnetic force. Dynamic stiffness of the mount is reduced by only magnetic suction according to the applied magnetic field and damping coefficient increased. Performance of conventional rubber mount with using electromagnet has been investigated by MTS Tester. The governing equation of the hybrid mount was derived and verified by comparison with experimental and theoretical results. The equation can be used practically and usefully in the design of the mount and analysis of the mounting system. The hybrid mount provides excellent performance in vibration isolation and its structure is very simpler than active with controller and a semi-active mount with a functional fluid. Furthermore, production cost of the mount using permanent magnets is very lower than that of the active mount with electromagnets. Therefore, commercial potential of the mount is very high.
