  • The aqueous ethanolic whole plant extract of Rosa arabica was found to contain the new natural dimeric phenolic compound, ellagic acid 3,3'-dimethyl ether $4-O-{\alpha}-rhamnopyranoside$, 9, along with ten known phenolic metabolites (1-8, 10 and 11). Structures of all compounds (1-11) were established by routine methods of analysis and confirmed by FAB-MS, $^1H\;and\;^{13}C$ NMR spectral analysis.

Multi-channel Real Time Arrhythmia Detection System (다중채널 실시간 부정맥 검출 시스템 설계에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes the design of a real time arrhythmia detection system using five variables : heart rate, QS width, morphology, alls deviation, and ST segment. To detect individual variables for four patients, we designed multi-processor system. The results of the analysis derived from simulators and 50 patients are compared with the medical diagnoses. The results show that the analysis was able to detect irregularly occuring arrhythmia which does not show up in routine medical examination.

Study on the computer method for power system planning (전력계통계획의 종합기계화에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes a computer method for power system planning. Power system planning was usually studied through individual programs. Because of the laborious work involved in data preparation, the increase of task for power system planning and the time required for the detailed analysis of results, the available time for assessment and decision making has been sacrificed. In order to improve the above situation, the use of data base techniques an the simplified evaluation of the presented programs were newly developed. This program has been used successfully for the routine of power system planning in Korea Electric Company. In addition, this paper describes some results of analysis and evaluation of power system planning in KECO.

  • To monitor riparian wetlands as one of complex natural ecosystems using remotely sensed data, we need to concurrently consider vegetation, soil and water which constitute complicated wetland ecosystems. To identify riparian distribution we adopted linear Spectral Mixture Analysis in order to improve identification accuracy of riparian areas. This study has indicated that linear SMA adopting tasseled cap endmember selection is an enhanced routine for Identification of riparian wetlands and phenologically autumn imagery is more appropriate to detect riparian vegetation in the Paldang water catchment area.

Case Studies of the Life Cycle Cost Analysis for Rehabilitation of Deteriorated Expressway Concrete Pavements (고속도로 노후 콘크리트 포장 보강의 경제성 분석 사례 연구)

  • PURPOSES : Concrete pavement has been used in the construction of the Jungbu expressway in 1987. More than 60% of the pavement on the expressway is currently made of concrete, but most has been used far beyond their design life. Pavement life has been extended through routine maintenance or overlay. However, the structural capacity of the pavement has reached its limit, and extensive rehabilitation/reconstruction with long time traffic blocking should be considered. The three following issues on concrete rehabilitation/reconstruction will be discussed: (1) economic comparison of asphalt inlay and asphalt overlay, (2) economic comparison preventive overlay on a section which is currently good and routine overlay on the section which will be poor, and (3) economic analysis of early-strength concrete when it is used in concrete reconstruction. METHODS : First, various life cycle cost analysis tools were compared, and the proper tool for the extensive rehabilitation/reconstruction was selected. Second, a sensitivity analysis of the selected tool was performed to find the influential input variables, which should be carefully selected in the analysis. Third, three case studies, which can be issues in the rehabilitation/reconstruction of the expressway concrete pavement in Korea, were performed. RESULTS : Asphalt overlay without milling the deteriorated concrete showed 18~25% lower life cycle cost than the current asphalt inlay with milling. The good current preventive overlay on the section was economically justified within the scope of this study. The construction cost limit of the early strength concrete was suggested to be economical for 1, 3, and 7 days of construction alternative opening. CONCLUSIONS : CA4PRS was a viable tool for comparing various rehabilitation/reconstruction issue alternatives. Several concrete issues associated with the rehabilitation/reconstruction of the deteriorated concrete pavement were discussed as mentioned above.

A New Analysis Method for Packed Malicious Codes (코드은닉을 이용한 역공학 방지 악성코드 분석방법 연구)

  • This paper classifies the self-defense techniques used by the malicious software based on their approaches, introduces the packing technique as one of the code protection methods and proposes a way to quickly analyze the packed malicious codes. Packing technique hides a malicious code and restore it at runtime. To analyze a packed code, it is initially required to find the entry point after restoration. To find the entry point, it has been used reversing the packing routine in which a jump instruction branches to the entry point. However, the reversing takes too much time because the packing routine is usually obfuscated. Instead of reversing the routine, this paper proposes an idea to search some features of the startup code in the standard library used to generate the malicious code. Through an implementation and a consequent empirical study, it is proved that the proposed approach is able to analyze malicious codes faster.

Pain Response to Procedural Pain in Premature Infants (미숙아의 시술 관련 통증 반응)

  • Purpose: To explore premature infants' pain response to routine procedures in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Methods: The participants were 56 preterm infants who showed 149 pain responses to 8 high frequency routine procedures which were evaluated using the Premature Infant Pain Scale (PIPS). Videotaped recording was used for data collection. Data were analyzed with descriptive analysis, paired t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: PIPS scores for each procedure were as follows; for removal of central catheter dressing, 6.17 (2.04), venous sampling, 6.12 (2.87), intramuscular injection, 6.05 (2.38), insertion of a peripheral line, 5.38 (2.16), insertion of feeding tube, 4.40 (1.34), heel stick, 4.33 (1.23), insertion of central line, 4.00 (2.12), and endotracheal suctioning, 2.90 (1.25). PIPS score was negatively correlated with gestational age (r=-.218, p=.007) and birth weight (r=-.249, p=.002) among general characteristics of the infants. Conclusion: The majority of 8 routine procedures were found to be painful for premature infants in the NICU. Therefore, adequate pain management related to procedures should be provided to premature infant in the NICU.

A Case of Early Diagnosed Hunter Syndrome Detected by Large Head on Routine Examination (큰 두위를 주소로 내원하여 헌터 증후군으로 일찍 진단된 증례 1례)

  • A 25-month-old boy was referred to the hospital due to large head detected on routine physical examination. At visit, dysmorphic facial appearances, including broad nose, prominent forehead, and coarse face, were noted. Nasal obstruction with nasal voice, prominent adenoids, and bilateral middle ear effusions were detected. His abdomen was distended, and liver and spleen were palpated about 3 finger and 2 finger breadths, respectively. He was operated for bilateral inguinal hernias. The motion of both elbow joints was mildly limited on supination and pronation. Urinary level of glycosaminoglycan was elevated and the enzyme activity of iduronate sulfatase in leukocytes was decreased. The mutational analysis of the gene iduronate 2-sulfatase (IDS) revealed c.263G>A (p.Arg88His) mutation. His developmental scale showed delayed development and there was cardiac valvular involvement (tricuspid regurgitation and mitral valve prolapse). After the diagnosis of Hunter syndrome, enzyme replacement therapy started on a weekly basis without progression of any clinical features. Here we report a case of early diagnosed Hunter syndrome detected by large head on routine examination. Thus, it is important to associate Hunter syndrome in the patient with large head especially, if there is the history of bilateral inguinal hernia and prominent adenoids to increase the possibility of early diagnosis and treatment.

  • In this paper, a sample chamber which provide easy replacement of ISFET sensor and consume only small sample volume for electrolyte analysis is designed and a 4-channel electrolyte analyzer employing 2-point calibration method is implemented. In addition, we proposed sample loading detection circuit for minimizing sample and calibration solutions and implemented it. Developed electrolyte analyzer consists of control system part and flow system part. For the effective control of the developed hardware, system software is developed as three individual routines ; measuring routine, calibration routine and washing routine.

Reducing frame rate and pulse rate for routine diagnostic cerebral angiography: ALARA principles in practice

  • Objective: Diagnostic cerebral angiograms (DCAs) are widely used in neurosurgery due to their high sensitivity and specificity to diagnose and characterize pathology using ionizing radiation. Eliminating unnecessary radiation is critical to reduce risk to patients, providers, and health care staff. We investigated if reducing pulse and frame rates during routine DCAs would decrease radiation burden without compromising image quality. Methods: We performed a retrospective review of prospectively acquired data after implementing a quality improvement protocol in which pulse rate and frame rate were reduced from 15 p/s to 7.5 p/s and 7.5 f/s to 4.0 f/s respectively. Radiation doses and exposures were calculated. Two endovascular neurosurgeons reviewed randomly selected angiograms of both doses and blindly assessed their quality. Results: A total of 40 consecutive angiograms were retrospectively analyzed, 20 prior to the protocol change and 20 after. After the intervention, radiation dose, radiation per run, total exposure, and exposure per run were all significantly decreased even after adjustment for BMI (all p<0.05). On multivariable analysis, we identified a 46% decrease in total radiation dose and 39% decrease in exposure without compromising image quality or procedure time. Conclusions: We demonstrated that for routine DCAs, pulse rate of 7.5 with a frame rate of 4.0 is sufficient to obtain diagnostic information without compromising image quality or elongating procedure time. In the interest of patient, provider, and health care staff safety, we strongly encourage all interventionalists to be cognizant of radiation usage to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure and consequential health risks.
