  • The Quenching and Self Tempering (QST) rolling is treated in terms of an advance process on Controlled Rolling and Cooling Technology (CRCT). In the analysis, the effect of this process is governed by both quenching and finishing conditions in the related with temperature. The objective of the QST model is to simulate the temperature gradient of the stock being rolled in the rolling mill. A comparison of computer simulated and manufactured micro structure as well as mechanical properties shows a good consistency. The micro structure of this high-strength round bar consists of tempered martensite and ferrite + pearlite phases.

  • In this study, to investigate the effect of process variables such as reduction in area, semi-die angle and the rectangular ratio to the corner filling which influences the dimensional accuracy of the final product in the drawing of the cluadrangle rod from a round bar, it has been simulated by three dimensional rigid-plastic finite element method. In order to reduce the number of simulation artificial neural network has been introduced. Also, through the experimental investigation, the present results have been implemented on the industrial product. In results, the main process variable is the combination of the semi-die angle in case of the irregular shaped drawing process and reduction in area in the event of regular shaped drawing process, respectively.

  • This study was peformed to determine optimum induction heating conditions for a round bar of crankshaft. Four induction heating conditions were proposed and evaluated, employing numerical method, based on electromagnetic and sequential heat transfer analyses, resulting in optimum induction heating conditions which are finally proposed based on peak temperatures at heating zone and minimum temperature gradient through thickness of a round bar after 1 hour induction heating.

  • In recent practice a half round prismatic bar has fillet welded or formed through foundry work along the centerline on rear concave surface of the horn to mitigate gap flow between fixed and movable part of the rudder system. When the gap clearance has been blocked with this practice, numerical simulations indicate that the practices are not only effective in reducing the gap flow but also in mitigating the cavitation. The blocking effects are remarkably improved when a pair of blocking bar is bisymmetrically attached with respect to centerline on the opposite convex surface of the movable part. The blocking bar could be placed on the exposed surface under maximum rudder angle. This implies that the blocking bar could be easily adopted not only in a design stage but also in a maintenance stage for mitigating rudder cavitation. In addition, the numerical simulations imply that more improvements could be anticipated through the selection of section shape of prismatic bar for gap flow blocking.

  • The objective of this study is to adjust the roll gap for the dimension accuracy of bar in hot bar rolling process considering roll wear. In this study hot bar rolling processes for round and oval passes have been investigated. In order to predict the roll wear, the wear model is reformulated as an incremental form and then wear depth of roll is calculated at each deformation step on contact area using the results of finite element analysis, such as relative sliding velocity and normal pressure at contact area. Archard's wear model was applied to predict the roll wear. To know the effects of thermal softening of DCI (Ductile Cast Iron) roll material according to operating conditions, high temperature micro hardness test is executed and a new wear model has been proposed by considering the thermal softening of DCI roll expressed in terms of the main tempering curve. The new technique developed in this study for adjusting roll gap can give more systematically and economically feasible means to improve the dimension accuracy of bar with full usefulness and generality.

  • In this study, we analyzed a cold draw (CD) bar packaging automation facility to examine its structural safety. The structural analysis focused on the frame part of the automatic packing machine for the CD round rod widely used in the industrial field, as well as the package supply device, banding suit, and crane part. As a result, we concluded that the structural safety for the banding suit, crane, and package supply device have been secured (safety factors of 9.8, 7.5, and 14.5, respectively). In addition, the safety factor of the transfer was 4.0.

  • In this thesis, the emphasis is laid especially on the culture & structure of Huizhou Province, China as the prime mover of the specifically-regional Huizhou $X{\bar{i}}n^{\prime}{\bar{a}}n$ medicine. Huizhou was the home town & stronghold of Neo-coufucian masters Cheng-Zhu (Cheng brothers and Zhu-hsi)". The tradition of the region as "The arts province" resulted in the flourishing trend of nurturing prominent Confucian-doctors. The remarkable all round activities of Huizhou Merchants (新安商人 $X{\bar{i}}n^{\prime}{\bar{a}}nsh{\bar{a}}ngr{\acute{e}}n$), as the reigning power merchant at the period were the second mover of the Zeitgeist. Their nation-wide network all over China made it possible to gain valuable inlormation and access to news including the field of medicine in time. Some merchants actually have "abandoned their own jobs to become doctors of medicine". This Confucian-Merchant culture was one of intrinsic characteristics of Huizhou region, inducing "Pragmatic Scholarship". With the enlargement of the population of Confucian-tumed doctors and improvement of the societal status of doctors, the resultant occupational triad of local Confucian govemment officials, local $X{\bar{i}}n^{\prime}{\bar{a}}nsh{\bar{a}}ngr{\acute{e}}n$ merchants, and local doctors was established after the Middle-Ming Dynasty. Ultimately, the two prime movers of the concomitant development of medicine in the Province Huizhou in this study are concluded to be the synergy effects of the Neo-Confucian tradition and economic power of the prevalent Huizhou Merchants ($X{\bar{i}}n^{\prime}{\bar{a}}nsh{\bar{a}}ngr{\acute{e}}n$).

  • The behavior of fatigue was studied by using low carbon steel bar with microhole(artificial small defect) under the condition of rotary bending stress which is made artificially at smooth surface and round notch root.
