The information on the actual voltages and actual currents of the motor is required for the sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor without rotor position sensors. In the model-based rotor position estimator of a PM synchronous motor, the reference voltages, which are the outputs of the current controller, are commonly used. The reference voltages in over-modulation regions for high-speed operation differ from the actual voltages applied to the motor. Consequently, the estimated rotor position and rotor speed may fail to track the real rotor position and real rotor speed. In this paper, the sensorless control for a PM synchronous motor in over-modulation regions for high-speed operation is proposed. The three-phase voltages applied to the motor are measured by using additional voltage detection circuits, and the performance of the rotor position estimator based on the measured three-phase voltages is validated through the experimental results.
This paper proposes an initial rotor position detecting algorithm of a PM synchronous motor using an incremental encoder. The proposed algorithm estimates the phase offset between the rotor magnetic flux and the Z-pulse of the incremental encoder by applying six aligning mode current control. The absolute rotor position for driving a PM synchronous motor is calculated by using the phase offset of the Z pulse and A, B pulse signals of the encoder. The PMSM drives based on the estimated rotor position is applied to the elevator door system. The door length is measured on line at first setup of the elevator. The speed control for open, close, and reopen of the elevator door is also presented and the proposed algorithm for the elevator door system is verified by experiment.
In this paper, we show that the rotor position of the bifilar-wound hybrid stepping motors for the closed-loop drives is detected by the phase current measurement. We propose an instantaneous phase current equation, which is the function of electrical angle, by the modeling of the stepping motor including motor driving circuits. We also analyze the relationship between phase current and rotor position from the computer simulation results. It is shown that the information about the rotor position is obtained from the phase current amplitude and its derivatives at the instance of ${\pi}/2$ electrical angle of excitation voltage.
Recently the interest in permanent magnet alternating motor using for electric compressor become great. Especially the research on Interior Permanent Magnet Motor has been doing actively for its advantages in the energy density and the efficiency. In order to control the output of motor to the desired value, the current control or speed control of motor are required. The accurate detection of rotor position and speed information are necessary for the control of motor. In general, the encoder, hall sensor, and resolver are used to obtain the information of motor position and speed and the speed detection algorithm, M/T method, is applied. However, the M/T method causes the error depending on rotor speed. Therefore, this M/T speed detection method is not perfect. In this paper, it is proposed that the PI control with a 1st transfer function and the integration element between velocity and position are composed in series and this feeds back to the reference value of position angle. The proposed algorithm is a function of the integral elements 2nd term, speed element, is used as an output. Thus, it is possible to detect the correct speed by configuring like the mechanical structure similarly. The proposed algorithm is verified by using PSIM DLL and is applied to the BLAC motor drive. And also it is confirmed that this system estimates the accurate speed regardless of rotor speed changes. As a example, the experimental results and simulations shows that the proposed method is very effective.
This paper presents a novel scheme to estimate the rotor position of a single-phase hybrid switched reluctance motor (HSRM). The proposed method uses the differential of back-EMF within a position region to estimate rotor position. By detecting the crossing-zero signal of back-EMF differential value, the minimum position of back-EMF corresponding to an absolute rotor position can be captured and used for position estimation four times in every mechanical rotation. In this way, a sensorless operation with adjustable turn on/off angle can be achieved without substantial computation. For the starting, two current comparators are adopted. The experimental verification using a prototype drive system is provided to demonstrate the viability of the proposed sensorless scheme.
A position detection method for 2 phase bifilar permanent magnet step motors is proposed. The back emfgenerated on 2 phase windings by rotor permanent magnet is calculated using motor terminal voltage and current by analog circuit, and the rotor position output is obtained from tese back emf signals through some logical manipulation circuit. This position detector functionally acts like a 2 channel optical incremental encoder, and it is also shown by experimental results that it works well over wide range of speed or under resonant condition where the rotor rings around the detent position. Its resolution is twice of the number of steps per revolution. Bu software implemented on micro-processor, the reliability of position output is enhanced, detecting and correcting error dut to external and/ or internal noise.
SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) drives require the accurate position and speed information of the rotor. These informations are generally provided by a shaft encoder or resolver. High temperature, EMI, and dust may make detection performance deteriorate. Therefore, the elimination of the position and speed sensor is desirable. In this paper, a nonlinear adaptive observer using the MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) is proposed. The rotor speed and position are estimated by the adaptation law using the real and estimated currents. The stability of the adaptive observer is proved by Lyapunov stability theory. The proposed methods are implemented with TMS320C31 DSP. Experimental results prove that the observer has a good estimation performance of the rotor speed and position despite of the parameter variations and loads, and the speed control can be accomplished in the wide speed range.
This paper proposes a new speed and position estimation method for PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) using low-resolution hall-effect sensors. In general, there are a variety of sensors to estimate rotor position for PMSM such as resolvers, and encoders. Position detection using hall-effect sensors that detect the flux of the rotor for rotor position is excellent method in terms of cost and space, but has low-resolution. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a new speed and position estimation observer. The performance of the observer has been verified by simulations carried out using Matlab/Simulink.
