  • This paper deals with the optimum design criteria for the premium efficiency of 250 kW traction induction motor, using response surface methodology (RSM) and finite element method (FEM). The focus of this paper is found firstly a design solution through the comparison of torque according to rotor bar shape, rotor dimensions variations. And secondly a mixed resolution with central composite design (CCD) is introduced and analysis of variance (ANOVA) is conducted to determine the significance of the fitted regression model. The proposed procedure allows to be optimized the rotor copper bar shape, rotor slot, rotor dimensions starting from an existing motor or a preliminary design.

  • Wind turbine frame will be required to be longer, lighter, more reliable and more consistent. Therefore it is necessary to lose weight of the wind turbine hub. Light-weight Design of a wind turbine is required to be at least 20 years. Therefore, this paper investigates the development for wind turbine rotor hub using design of topology optimization. The model is a pitch regulated wind turbine with three rotor blades where the main frame is made of nodular iron. For optimization, calculating stresses based on displacements and based on these data to carry out a verification of static and fatigue strength carried out. For this verification, two kind of analysis is used. One is static analysis and the other is fatigue analysis. Then the rotor hub of wind turbine frame is optimized using topology method.

  • This paper present an optimum design for the rotor-bearing system of a high-speed (80000RPM) ultra-centrifuge supported by ball bearings with nonlinear stiffness characteristics. To obtain the nonlinear bearing stiffnesses, a ball bearing is modelled in five degrees of freedom and is analyzed quasi-statically. The dynamic behaviors of the nonlinear rotor-bearing system are analyed by using a transfer-matrix method iteratively. For optimum design, minimizing the weight of a rotor is used as a cost function and the Augmented Lagrange Multiplier (ALM) method is employed. The result shows that the rotor-bearing system is optimized to obtain 8% weight reduction.

  • This paper describes the design, analysis and manufacture procedure of the composite blade for hingeless rotor system of unmanned helicopters. Helicopter rotor system is the key structural unit that produces thrust and control forces for intended flight conditions. In this work, a hingeless rotor system is adopted, and base on the design requirements for rotor system, composite blade section design and calculation of material properties were performed. In order to avoid the unstable state such as resonance, vibration characteristics of rotor system were analyzed. Finally, this paper describes the forming and manufacture of composite blade.

  • A rotor overlap technique was adapted to improve the performance of a axial turbine. The technique secured sufficient flow passage by additional height at the rotor tip and hub. especially in a supersonic turbine, the technique reduced the chance of chocking in the rotor passage, and made to be satisfied the design pressure ratio. However, the technique also made additional losses, like a pumping loss, expansion loss, etc. Therefore, a optimization technique was appled to maximize the improvement of the turbine performance. An approximate optimization method was used for the investigation to secure the computational efficiency. The design variables was shape factors of a rotor overlap. Results indicated that a significant improvement in turbine performance can be achieved through the optimization of the rotor overlap.

  • This paper describes the analysis method about the dynamic characteristics and vibratory load through HDS(Helicopter Design Study). To analyze the dynamic characteristics of helicopter rotor blade, the natural frequencies and modes are calculated according to rotor operational speed(Ω). Generally the proximity of rotor natural frequency and N times of rotor operational speed is a dominant component to determine the helicopter vibration. Also we can predict the airframe vibration by calculating the airload of rotating blade exactly. We expect to establish the design procedure of rotor dynamics by describing the two major analysis methods necessary to rotor design.

  • The application of contra-rotating rotors for higher specific speed pump has been proposed in our studies, which is in principle effective for reducing the rotational speed and/or the pump size under the same specification of conventional axial flow pump. In the previous experiments of our prototype, the cavitation inception at the tip region of the rear rotor rather than that of the front rotor and the strong potential interaction from the suction surface of the rear rotor blade to the pressure surface of the front one were observed, indicating the possibility to further improve the pump performance by optimizing rotational speed combination between the two rotors. The present research aims at the design of rear rotor with lower rotational speed. Considering the fact that the incoming flow velocity defects at the tip region of the rear rotor, an integrated inflow model of 'forced vortex' and 'free vortex' is employed. The variation of maximum camber location from hub to tip as well as other related considerations are also taken into account for further performance improvement. The ideas cited above are separately or comprehensively applied in the design of three types of rear rotor, which are subsequently simulated in ANSYS CFX to evaluate the related pump performance and therefore the whole low speed design idea. Finally, the experimental validation is carried out on one type to offer further proofs for the availability of the whole design method.

  • This paper described the general dynamic point for rotor design and the design procedure of low vibration blade. Generally, rotor rotating natural frequencies are determined to minimize hub loads, blade vibration and to suppress ground resonance at rotor design stage. First, through rotor frequency diagram, natural frequencies must be far away from resonance point and rotating loads generated from blade can be transformed to non-rotating load to predict fuselage vibration. Vibration level was predicted at each forward flight condition by calculating cockpit's vertical acceleration transferred from non-rotating hub load assuming a fuselage as a rigid body. This design method is applied to design current Next-generation Rotor System Blade(NRSB) and will be applied to New Rotor which will be developed Further.

  • This paper presents a parametric study and an optimal design of the ER-SFD supporting a rigid rotor system. An attempt is made to obtain the optimal design of an ER-SFD for a two degree-of-freedom rotor model. Such a simple model is used in order to get a better insight into the physics of the problem, A maximum whirl amplitude, supply pressure and voltage are considered, and a maximum whirl amplitude is minimized over a range of speeds and presented for some values of unbalance mass. The results presented in this paper provide important design information necessary to reduce a whirl amplitude of an ER-SFD.
