  • The solid-iron rotor induction motor is the squirral cage type induction motor with its rotor core consisting of solid iron in stead of a laminated core. The specific feature of this motor are that its structure is simple and firm, and therefore provides the great convenience in its operation and that its starting characteristic are excellent. this study is aimedto derive the equation for theroretical evaluation of the speed-torque characteristics of the motor by use of maxwell's equation. Through the series of test on the speed-torque characteristics of this motor which is experimentally constructed, we have proved the feasibility of the equaiton which is derived theoretically to calculate the torque of the motor. In addition we have obtained its general charastristics experimentally.

  • The loss is most important problems for the practical applications of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). In this paper, rotor sleeve and stator shape design of high speed permanent magnet motor for loss reduction. First, this paper found optimum sleeve thickness for calculation eddy current loss on the basis of analytical method, because eddy current is influenced by conductivity of material and area. Then, stator shape design is changed as maintain same slot area for reducing stator core loss. Finally, this paper compared analytical result with optimum sleeve thickness obtained from finite element(FE) method, and stator core loss is calculated from FE method.

  • A linear cascade of NACA 65-1810 profiles are investigated for tip leakage flow characteristics. and calculation results are compared with experimental result. STAR-CD commercial code was used to solve the three dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equation that was adopted for steady flow and high Reynolds $\kappa$- $\varepsilon$turbulent model. Numerical calculation of a linear cascade is carried out to investigate effect of tip clearance on pitchwise variations of velocity Profiles. and static pressure distributions on the blade surface at spanwise positions. In case of evolution of tip vortex core location. tip vortex geometry and static pressure at the center of the tip vortex core compared with experimental results. Calculation results are agreed well with the experimental data, and validated. The static pressure losses by tip leakage flow at 2% tip clearance were more than those at 1% tip clearance.

  • A ferrite bonded magnet type brushless DC (BLDC) motor which do not have rotor core is analyzed by using finite element method (FEM). The magnetization distribution of the magnet does not have only parallel or radial direction. So, the direction and intensity are taken into account by the analysis of the magnetization procedure. The validity of the analysis method is verified by comparing the analyzed results with measured ones.

  • Surface Permanent-Magnetic-Synchronous-Generator (SPMSG) discussed in the present study has operational characteristics such as high rotational speed over 1,000 rpm and centrifugal force of 12 kN·m for each magnet. Structure-development analysis for the minimization of rotor-core weights and the maximization of thermal emission is performed by applying the aluminum-laminated cap which combines the advantages of IPM and SPM in order to overcome the difficulty that attaching the magnet to rotor-core only with an adhesive. In this study, the simulations in terms of structure and electromagnetic were performed with the variable parameters such as shape and thickness of laminated-cap and division method of magnet. As a result, condition for minimized centrifugal force with minimum loss is derived.

  • The effort attempts to investigate the influence of various non-oriented electrical steel sheets on the core loss of a switched reluctance motor (SRM). The core loss of the motor inherits a strong correlation with flux density and permeability of the material. The study involves the use of laminated 2.7 % high silicon steel suitable for the motor in view of its higher flux density and lower core loss. The accurate prediction of core loss leaves way to suggest measures for improving the performance of the SRM. The dynamic simulation measurements of a 1.5 kW, three-phase 12/8 SRM involve the finite element method (FEM) and use the data obtained experimentally from Epstein frame. The closeness of the simulated and hardware results obtained with laminations of M400-50A, DI MAX-M19 and DI MAX-M15 both for the stator and rotor, espouse a greater significance to the findings in terms of the core loss density and forge new dimensions for its use in the drive industry.

  • This paper proposes a new invention of the integrated generator converter system for the HVDC transmission. And it analyses the general formula for eddy currents in the rotor iron using the double Fourier series in order to trace the smallest eddy current losses of the system which connects a new designed synchronous generator windings or conventional synchronous generator windings with the v Graetz bridges.

  • In this study, we conduct a numerical experiment of the single 5MW NREL wind turbine and compare the performance of various vortex core identification for the wake behind the wind turbine. In the kinetic analysis of wind turbine, 20% velocity deficit at 200 s is observed, showing wake which contains tip vortex near blade tip and rotor vortex at the center of the wind turbine. Time series of velocity and turbulent intensity show numerical simulation converge to a quasi-steady state near 200 s. In the comparison between methods for vortex identification, ${\lambda}_2$-method has good performance in terms of tip vortex, rotor vortex, vortex during its cascade process compared to vorticity magnitude criteria, ${\Delta}$-method. We conclude that ${\lambda}_2$-method is suitable for vortex identification method for wake visualization.

  • Nowadays more attention is paid to the developing high efficiency electrical machines for energy saving and protection of natural resources. In general, the electromagnetic losses appearing in electrical machines are widely classified into copper loss, core loss and rotor loss. Particularly, in permanent magnet (PM) machines, core loss forms a larger portion of the total losses than in another machine. So, satisfactory prediction of core loss at the design or analysis stage of PM machines is essential to active high efficiency and high performance. This paper deals with analysis of magnetic field distribution due to geometry of stator core for magnetic core loss calculation of multi-pole PM synchronous machine.

  • The rotor blade of helicopter is the core component determining helicopter performance and requiring low noise and low vibration because the blade becomes the major source of noise during flight. The performance analysis of candidates rotor blades is very critical because LCH(Light Civil Helicopter) will be developed parallel with LAH(Light Armed Helicopter) as an international upgrade program based on the existing platform of foreign civil helicopter. This research was aimed to recognize the performance of the candidates rotor blades compared with the newly developed foreign rotor blades and to investigate the feasibility about developing korea unique shape rotor blades by analysis the rotor performance and noise. The result of this research can be used for the target performance index during negotiation with foreign helicopter company and developing korea unique shape rotor blades.
