  • Engine misfire causes of the negative effect on exhaust emission such as HC, CO, and NOX . Moreover, it causes damage to the three-way-catalyst(TWC) system permanently. The crankshaft velocity fluctuation(CVF) method has been applied for the real cars as misfire detection system usually, which utilizes the crank angle sensor input to calculate the variation of the crankshaft rotational speed. But this approach has the limit due to the fact that three could be problem under certain engine condition like as deceleration or high speed condition . Therefore the development of new methods are requested today. This study introduced the new method of misfire detection using breakdown voltage(BDV) characteristics between spark plug electrouds.

  • A remote controlled mobile robot system has been developed and tested to monitor the radiation area in the nuclear power plant. The mobile robot system operates according to car-driving-like commands and is capable of radiation measurement and visual inspection in unmanned situations under radiation. The robot system is equipped with a radiation sensor and two cameras with appropriate illumination set-ups. The camera with auto-focus function and 8-times zoom lens is mounted on the pan/tilt rotational base and the other is mounted on the front panel of the robot system. All commands regarding the motion of the mobile robot and various sensors are given through the monitoring system which is designed to provide an integrated man-machine interface.

  • Recently, with the rapid growth of information technology, many studies have been performed to implement web-based manufacturing system. Such technologies are expected to meet the need of many manufacturing industries those want to adopt E-manufacturing system for the construction of globalization, agility, digitalization to cope with the rapid changing market requirements. In this research, areal-time web-based machine tool and machining process monitoring system is developed as a first step fur implementing I-manufacturing system. In this system, main spindle motor current and feed current are measured using hall sensors. And the relationship between the cutting force and the spindle motor RMS current at various spindle rotational speed is obtained. Also, a rule-based expert system is developed in order to monitor the machining process effectively. Finally, developed system is applied to real machining process to verify the effectiveness.

  • The Helicopter has a lot of flight modes. The most characteristic flight mode is Hovering. It enables the helicopter to be used in many situations. However, a helicopter has nonlinear dynamics so its mathematical modeling is very difficult. Hence it is not easy to control helicopter in hover. In this paper, RC model helicopter is selected as a plant. To stabilize the behavior of RC model helicopter, Fuzzy alogrithm is used as a controller and one camera is used as a sensor. To get proper Information from camera Image, three characteristic points are attatched to the helicopter and a position recognition algorithm is developed. Experiments are performed to stabilize 3 rotational motions synchronousely with fuzzy control algorithm. As a result, Fuzzy control represents better performances than the conventional PID control.

이족보행 로봇의 무게중심 실시간 추정에 관한 연구 (On the Estimation of the Center of Mass of an Autonomous Bipedal Robot)

  • In this paper, a closed-loop observer to extract the center of mass (CoM) of a bipedal robot is suggested. Comparing with the simple conversion method of just using joint angle measurements, it enables to get more reliable estimates by fusing both joint angle measurements and F/T sensor outputs at ankle joints. First, a nonlinear-type observer is constructed to estimate the flexible rotational motion of the biped in the extended Kalman filter framework. It adopts the flexible inverted pendulum model which is appropriate to address the flexible motion of bipeds, specifically in the single support phase. The predicted estimates of CoM in terms of the flexible motion observer are combined with measurements (that is, output of the CoM conversion equation with joint angles). Then, we have final CoM estimates depending on the weighting values which penalize the flexible motion model and the CoM conversion equation. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

주축용 유도전동기의 매개변수 추정과 토크 모니터링 시스템 (Parameters Estimation and Torque Monitoring for the Induction Spindle Motor)

  • To monitor the torque of an induction motor using current, the accurate identification of the motor parameters is very important. In this study, the motor parameters such as rotor resistance, stator and rotor leakage inductance, mutual inductance are estimated for torque monitoring and indirect vector control. Estimated parameters are used to monitor the torque of vector controlled induction motor without any speed measuring sensor. Stator current is measured to estimate the magnetizing current which is used to calculate flux linkage, rotor velocity and motor torque. From the experiments, the proposed method shows a good estimation of the motor parameters and torque under the normal rotational speed.

  • This is an experimental study to identify the performance of air-to-air rotary heat exchanger with polyurethane foam matrix. The experimental apparatus including heating AHU(Air Handling Unit), cooling AHU, sensor chamber, and heat exchanger testing unit was designed and manufactured in this study. The performance of heat exchanger with porous polyurethane foam matrix was tested with variations of the density and the thickness of matrix, regulating the wind velocity and the rotational speed of matrix. The actual heat recovery effectiveness, air leakage rate, and pressure drop of heat exchanger were measured and analyzed.

  • The use of inclinometer to measure deflections of structures is tested through experiments. By placing sensors at the ends of specimens, which are easy to accessed, the maximum deflection of a beam at the center is measured. Upon changing load, the inclined angles are measured and then converted to deflection using mathematical relationship between the deflection and rotational angle. Through this research, it is expected to promote the use of inclinometers for structural health monitoring of buildings and civil structures.

  • This paper deals with characteristic analysis and experiments on components of low-Tc(LTS) power supply. A LTS power supply consists of two exciters, a rotor, a stator, and an LTS magnet. The power supply has eight rotating poles, which make rotational magnetic flux. These flux penetrate superconducting sheets and cause currents which charge an LTS load. In this experiment, a 25.8mH LTS magnet was used, and rotor revolutions from 30 to 300rpm were used. In order to measure the pumping-current with respect to the magnet flux changes, a hall sensor was installed at the center of the LTS magnet. The experimental observations have been compared with the theoretical predictions. In this experiment, the pumping-current has reached about 372A.

  • A new signal processing technique is applied to four-cylinder spark and compression ignition engines for the diagnosis of power faults inside the cylinders. This technique utilizes two-sided directional power spectra(예S) of complex vibration signals measured from engine blocks as the patterns for engine cylinder power faults. The dPSs feature that they give not only the frequency contents but also the directivity of the engine block motion. For the automatic detection/diagnosis of cylinder power faults, pattern recognition method using multi-layer neural networks is employed. Experimental results show that the sucess rate for diagnosis of cylinder power faults using dPSs is higher than that using the conventional one-sided power spectra. The proposed technique is also tested to check the robustness to the sensor position and the engine rotational speed.
