Objectives: This scientometric and bibliometric analysis explored scientific publications related to hydraulic calcium silicate-based (HCSB) sealers used in endodontology, aiming to describe basic bibliometric indicators and analyze current research trends. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in Web of Science and Scopus using specific HCSB sealer and general endodontic-related terms. Basic research parameters were collected, including publication year, authorship, countries, institutions, journals, level of evidence, study design and topic of interest, title terms, author keywords, citation counts, and density. Results: In total, 498 articles published in 136 journals were retrieved for the period 2008-2023. Brazil was the leading country, and the universities of Bologna in Italy and Sao Paolo in Brazil were represented equally as leading institutions. The most frequently occurring keywords were "calcium silicate," "root canal sealer MTA-Fillapex," and "biocompatibility," while title terms such as "calcium," "sealers," "root," "canal," "silicate based," and "endodontic" occurred most often. According to the thematic map analysis, "solubility" appeared as a basic theme of concentrated research interest, and "single-cone technique" was identified as an emerging, inadequately developed theme. The co-occurrence analysis revealed 4 major clusters centered on sealers' biological and physicochemical properties, obturation techniques, retreatability, and adhesion. Conclusions: This analysis presents bibliographic features and outlines changing trends in HCSB sealer research. The research output is dominated by basic science articles scrutinizing the biological and specific physicochemical properties of commonly used HCSB sealers. Future research needs to be guided by studies with a high level of evidence that utilize innovative, sophisticated technologies.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of customized master cone on apical sealing in various apical size of prepared root canals, that is MAF(Master Apical File) and to know at which apical size the apical leakage is to be significantly reduced using customized master cone. 120 extracted single rooted premolars were divided into four groups according to their apical size(MAF), #30, 40, 50 and 60. And then, each group was subdivided into three in accordance with three obturation methods, lateral condensation with standardized master cone, lateral condensation with chloroform-dipped customized master cone, and continuous wave of obturation technique. Resorcinol-formaldehyde resin was used for the microleakage test of this study. Teeth were sectioned horizontally at 1.5mm(Level 1), 2.5mm(Level 2), and 3.5mm(Level 3) from the anatomical root apex using low speed microtome. All sections were examined under $\times$40 magnification with a stereomicroscope, photographed, and then scanned. With the scanned images, resin-infiltrated area presenting the microleakage was calculated using SigmaScan/Image, and the ratio of leakage to the total root canal area of each group was analyzed statistically(one way ANOVA). The results were as follows ; 1. In groups of MAF #30, there was no significant difference of mean leakage ratio among three obturation methods at all three levels. 2. In groups of MAF #40, the group using lateral condensation with customized master cone had the low-est mean leakage ratio at all three levels, but there was no significant difference among three obturation techniques. 3. In groups of MAF #50, the mean leakage ratio of the group using lateral condensation with standard master cone was the highest among those of three obturation techniques at level 1, and this difference was statistically significant(p<0.05). 4 In groups of MAF #60, the groups using lateral condensation with standard master cone had also the highest mean leakage ratio at all levels, but there was no significant difference at level 1 and 2. At level 3, the leakage of the group using lateral condensation with standard master cone was significantly higher than that of the group using continuous wave of obturation(p<0.05). The results of this study suggested that the obturation method using customized master cone or the continuous wave of obturation is more effective for apical sealing than that using standardized master cone when MAF is larger than #50.
I. Objectives Effective endodontic obturation must provide a complete, three-dimensional filling of the root canal system, preventing the communication of fluids between root canal and surrounding periapical tissues. The objective of this study was to compare the apical leakage with or without the use of dentin adhesive system. II. Materials and Methods Forth extracted human teeth with single canals were decoronated. Root canals were instrumented using GT rotary files and Profile .04 file up to #40, 1mm short of the apex. After each instrumentation, copious irrigation with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite solution and confirmation of apical patency were performed.(omitted)
The purpose of this study was to compare the degree of micro- leakage of new glass ionomer root canal sealer, Ketac-Endo(ESPE Co., Seefeld, Germany) with that of AH-26(De Trey Co., Ltd., U.S.A.). Root canal treatment using K -file, H -file, Gate Glidden drill was conducted on 49 extracted single-rooted teeth. 45 teeth were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups(15 teeth per group) and 4 teeth were used as the control group. Group 1 was used AH -26 sealer with the lateral condensation method for canal filling, group 2 was used Ketac-Endo with the single cone method and group 3 was used Ketac-Endo with the lateral condensation method. The control group was obturated with the single cone method without sealer. The teeth were covered with two coats of nail varnish after 48 hours of obturation. The teeth were immersed in India ink for 1 week and cleaned with methyl salicylate and then the degree of dye penetration were measured with stereomicroscope. The data were analyzed statistically by one-way ANOVA. The results were as follows: 1. 7 teeth in group 1, 5 in group 2, and 3 in group 3, were showed evidence of microleakage implying appropriate canal filling. 2, The mean average of microleakage was $0.17{\pm}0.32mm$ in group 1, $0.30{\pm}0.37mm$ in group 2. $0.10{\pm}0.21mm$ in group 3, showing that canal filling using the lateral condensation canal filling method with Ketac-Endo showed the least microleakage and using the single cone method with Ketac-Endo showed the largest amount of microleakage, 3. There were no statistically significant difference in the variation of microleakage among groups. From the results above, Ketac-Endo which has the advantage of glass ionomer, whether using the single cone method or the lateral condensation method, showed similar results as AH-26, but for clinical application it is thought that were studies on the properties of Ketac-Endo should be followed.
It is generally agreed that endodontic success often depends on canal debridement, disinfection and canal obturation. Access opening to a canal is one of the key to canal debridement. Advantages of straight line access opening are allowed a greater proportion of the root canal walls to be prepared than conventional lingual access cavities, minimized the loss of the tooth structure, reduced incidence of file fracture in curved canals. The purpose of this study is determine the influence of different access opening methods on fracture strength in endodontically treated teeth.(omitted)
The non-vital bleaching technique has been used widely as a very effective treatment method on discolored non-vital teeth. But periodontal tissue deterioration and cervical external root resorption have been reported because of the high toxicity of hydrogen peroxide in bleaching agents. So in previous studies, placement of base over the root canal obturation prior to bleaching has been suggested in order to prevent microleakage of bleaching agents, however, the effectiveness of base is still controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of base and root canal sealer on prevention of leakage of bleaching agents in non-vital bleaching. Fifty-two extracted sound teeth with single root were used. For root canal obturation, Tubuli seal$^{(R)}$(Kerr Co., USA) was used in 39 teeth and in others, AH-26$^{(R)}$(De Trey Dentsply, Inc., Switzerland) was used as a root canal sealer. 26 teeth among the teeth obturated with Tubuli seal$^{(R)}$ were divided into two groups, and Dentin cement$^{(R)}$(GC corp., Japan) and JRM$^{(R)}$(De Trey Dentsply, Inc. Germany) were used in each group as a intracanal base. In all teeth, non-vital bleaching using bleaching agent mixed with methylene blue dye was performed and all specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ water bath for 72 hours. After sectioning longitudinally, the depth of dye leakage was measured with digital vernier calipers under the stereobinocular microscope using ${\times}40$ magnification. It can be concluded as follows: 1. The microleakage of bleaching agent was observed ill all groups regardless of type of the base and the sealer. 2. The microleakage in the groups using AH-26$^{(R)}$ as a sealer was significantly reduced (p<0.05). 3. In the groups with intracanal base, micro leakage was observed through almost the whole depth of the base and there was no significant difference between Dentin cement$^{(R)}$ and IRM$^{(R)}$ group(p>0.05). In conclusion, all the basing materials and the sealers in this study did not prevent the microleakage of bleaching agent. Therefore further studies and attempts to seal off the pulp chamber will be necessary.
The purpose of this study was to compare and estimate the physical properties of five root canal sealers classified Calciobiotic root canals sealer as calcium hydroxide based sealer, Apatite root sealer type II as calcium phosphate based sealer, AH-26 as resin based sealer, Canals and Pulpdent root canals sealer as zinc oxide eugenol based sealer. The author investigated dimensional change and flow rate of canal sealers, diametral tensile strength and shear bond strength of sealers to dentin to evaluate the physical properties on affect of complete obturation of root canal and performed the total 100 specimens of each 25 sealers under the condition of root temperature according to manufacturer's instructions. All specimens were stored at $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ in 100 % relative humidity. A microscope for measurement of micro distance is used for the dimensional change test and evacuation methods using vaccum were used for the flow rate test. The result differed by the storage time measured on the tests of diametral tensile strength and shear bond strength to dentin. The following results were obtained ; 1 On the test of dimensional change, Canals and Pulpdent expanded slightly, AH-26 and Apatite showed the severe shrinkage after 48 hours. 2. AH-26 and Apatite were the excellent with each 24.59mm, 31.19mm after 3 minutes in the aspect of flow property. 3. On the diametral tensile strength, Calciobiotic root canals sealer showed the highest strength with 27.13kg/$cm^2$ after 48 hours, Apatite root sealer type II showed highest strength with 84.57kg/$cm^2$ after 120 hours. 4. On the shear bond strength to dentin, AH-26 was most excellent with 55.73kgf/$cm^2$ after 24 hours and with 134.71kgf/$cm^2$ after 120 hours.
The purpose of this study to evaluate several wann gutta-percha filling techniques using weight changes of resin blocks before and after canal filling in ribbon shaped canal. Simulated ribbon shaped root canals in 30 transparent resin blocks were instrumented to #40 using 06 taper Profile. 15 resin blocks were obturated with gutta-percha using cold lateral condensation. Warm lateral condensation using the Endotec II was then accomplished on the same 15 blocks. Another 15 resin blocks were obturated using the System B.(omitted)
I. Objectives The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ratio of gutta-percha area in the canal after canal obturation with Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique with varying depths of plugger penetration. II. Materials and Methods Forty extracted human teeth with single canal were divided into four group of ten teeth each. Root canals were prepared up to size 40 of 0.06 taper with $ProFile^{\circledR}$. After drying, canals of three groups were filled with Continuous Wave of Condensation Technique with System $B^{TM}$ and different plugger penetration depths of 3, 5, and 7mm from the apex.(omitted)
Objectives: This retrospective cohort study examined the incidence of interappointment emergencies during multiple-visit molar root canal treatments conducted by undergraduate students. Treatments performed without the use of intracanal medicament were compared to treatments that incorporated calcium hydroxide as an intracanal medicament. Materials and Methods: Interappointment emergencies, defined as instances of pain or swelling that required the patient to make an unscheduled follow-up visit, were recorded for up to 2 months after the intervention. To avoid the influence of obturation on the observed incidence of emergency visits, only unscheduled visits occurring between the start and end of the root canal treatment were included. Results: Of the 719 patients included in this study, 77 (10.7%) were recorded as experiencing interappointment emergencies. Of these emergencies, 62% occurred within 2 weeks following the most recent intervention. In the group of patients who did not receive intracanal medicament, the incidence of interappointment emergencies was 11.9% (46 of 385 patients). In comparison, this rate was 9.3% (31 of 334 patients) among those who received calcium hydroxide as an intracanal medicament (odds ratio, 1.33; 95% confidence interval, 0.82-2.15; p = 0.249). Conclusions: Interappointment emergencies may arise at any point during root canal treatment, but they most commonly occur within the first 2 weeks following intervention. The omission of intracanal medicament in multiple-visit molar root canal treatments, performed by undergraduate students, did not significantly increase the incidence of these emergencies.
