  • In this paper, the acoustic performance of a shipboard large-sized room unit is studied. The room unit is a kind of rectangular absorptive chamber with a partition whose surface absorptive material with fabric skin is attached to. The room unit has one inlet and three outlet. At the inlet, a plane damper is installed to control the flow rate. The acoustic performance of a prototype room unit is measured using a HVAC mock-up. It is shown that its insertion loss is comparable with that of a commercially-used room unit but the developed room unit generates flow noise higher than the other one. The major source of flow noise is analyzed by NADS-R, the noise analysis program for room unit. Cone-shaped dampers are proposed to be used as the damper of a room unit to reduce flow noise. It is shown that the cone-shaped damper decrease flow noise remarkably.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of unit plans in the high-rise mixed-use condominium and to provide the data fur architectural planning and design. The tools of statistical analysis are frequency, percentage, mean, cross-tab, and correlation. The results of this study are as fellows; The most frequently found shape of unit is a deformed polygon. The common rooms in housing units are dressing room, powder room, offset-kitchen, family room, passage, hallway, and foyer. The specially prepared spaces are wash room, home bar, independent porch, and garden. As to room size and area ratio in a dwelling unit, those of living room are biggest and highest irrespective of unit size. As the floor area of unit increases, does the size of each room and space but the area ratio of each room decreases. This research is made to develop an Apartment Information System. This integrated information system is to be designed to provide residents of high-rise mixed-use condominiums with convenient, economical, and safe life.

  • This study was intended to grasp the housing unit plan which the residents preferred. The subjects were 100 housewives who lived in 85$m^2$ sized housing units in the New Apartment Complex, Gimhae. First, four elements of unit plan were selected on the basis of the results of the POE which was carried out for the same subject the size of master bedroom and living room, the openness of dining/kitchen from living room, the openness of living room from entrance, and whether or not a bathtub or a shower booth is in bathroom. Then, eight design alternatives of unit plan made by combination of these four elements according to orthoplan were visualized by computer media. This visualized tool was used for collecting data. The results of the study were as follows: The important determinants of the residents' preferences for unit plan were the size of master bedroom and living room and the openness of living room from entrance. The residents preferred the unit plan which living room was large and the view from living room to dining/kitchen was open. • This study intends to examine the changes found in the unit floor plans of the apartments built in Beijing from 1979 to 2018. For the 3 - bedroom type apartments, 40 unit floor plans were collected, and the changes of integration values of each space were analyzed periodically in four phases. The unit floor plans are analyzed in the context of the Space Syntax Model and compared to the lifestyle and societal changes in China. The results of the study indicate the followings: As time went by, the living room and the dining room were separated from each other with the increasing area of the apartment unit floor plans. The function of the integrated living room was dispersed, and the integration of the living room and the dining room decreased with the change of time. In the third phase, the dining room occupied the center of the unit floor plans with the highest integration value; Chinese people prefer to place the kitchen in the relatively deep place in order to prevent oil and smoke caused by their cooking habits like stir-fry; The privacy of the master bedroom has been strengthened.
