Effect of root gaps on toughness of FCAW weld metal (FCAW 용접부의 인성에 미치는 Root Gap의 영향)

  • Both impact and fracture toughnesses were investigated with root gaps in FCAW weld metals at room temperature and 0.deg.C. The maximum impact value was obtained at the root gap of 16mm for 1G position weld metal, and the impact value of 3G position weld metals also showed the maximum impact value at the root gap of 12mm. However, the fracture toughnes(CTOD)values tend to decrease with increasing root gaps at both temperatures in 1G weld metal. Bending test also showed satisfactory results with all of root gaps investigated. Based on this result, it becomes possible to apply wide root gaps in real projects in both aspects of toughness and bending resistance.

  • Deep drawing of magnesium alloy sheet is conducted at elevated temperatures($200{\sim}300^{\circ}C$) to improve the press formability because of low formability at room temperature. Then magnesium alloy sheet formability is known to be very sensitive to the strain rate. In this paper, we conducted warm deep drawing tests of magnesium alloy AZ31 sheet for various punch velocities. We examined the forming velocity effect on the deep drawing formability and the correlation with the tensile test result.

  • Since Mg alloy has many attractive advantages among the practically used metals, many researchers have been studied to develop useful process and material. The crystal structure of Magnesium was hexagonal close-packed, so its formability was poor at room temperature. But formability was improved in high temperature with increasing of slip planes, twins, dynamic recrystallization. In this study The formability of AZ31B magnesium sheet is estimated according to the variable temperatures, forming speed, thickness, blank holding force. The results of deep drawing experiences show that the formability is well at the range from 200 to $250^{\circ}C$, 20 to 60 mm/min forming speed and 2.5 to 3KN blank holding force.

  • Type I clathrate $Ba_8Al_{16}Si_{30}$ was produced by arc melting and hot pressing and thermoelectric properties were investigated. Negative Seebeck coefficient at all temperatures measured, which means that the majority carriers are electrons. Electrical conductivity decreased by increasing temperature and thermal conductivity was 0.012 W/cmK at room temperature and dimensionless thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) was 0.01 at 873K.

  • The alumina dispersion-strengthened (DS) C15715 Cu alloy fabricated by a powder metallurgy route was annealed at temperatures ranging from $800^{\circ}C\;to\;1000^{\circ}C$ in the air and in vacuum. The effect of the annealing on microstructural stability and room-temperature mechanical properties of the alloy was investigated. The microstructure of the cold rolled OS alloy remained stable until the annealing at $900^{\circ}C$ in the air and in vacuum. No recrystallization of original grains occurred, but the dislocation density decreased and newly formed subgrains were observed. The alloy annealed at $1000^{\circ}C$ in the air experienced recrystallization and grain growth took place, however annealing in vacuum at $1000^{\circ}C$ did not cause the microstructural change. The mechanical property of the alloy was changed slightly with the annealing if the microstructure remained stable. However, the strength of the specimen that was recrystallized decreased drastically.

  • In this study, Perilla frutescens wh~ch has been used as a folk remedy was investigated its antimicrobial activity. First, the Perilla frutescens was extracted with methanol at room temperatures, and fractionation of the methanol extracts from Perilla frutescens was carried out by using petroleum ether, chloroform, and ethyl acetate, respectively. The antimicrobial activity. of the. Perilla frutescens extracts was determined using a paper disc method and the growth inhibition curve was determined using methanol extracts of Perilla frutescens against Salmonella enteritidis and Bacillus cereus. The methanol extract of Perilla frutescens showed strong antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus at the concentration of 1.000 ppm. The 4,000 ppm of methanol extract from Perilla frutescens. retarded the growth of S. enteritidis and Bacillus cereus up to 72 hours.

  • An analysis of the 1/f or flicker noise in FD n-channel Double Gate SOI MOSFET is proposed. In this paper, the variation of power spectral density (PSD) of the equivalent noise voltage and noise current with respect to frequency, channel length and gate-to-source voltage at various temperatures and exponent $C(i.e\;1/f^c$ is reported. The temperature is varied 125 K from to room temperature. The variation of PSD with respect to channel length down to $0.1{\mu}m$ technology is considered. It is analyzed that l/f noise in FD n-channel Double Gate SOI MOSFET is due to both carrierdensity fluctuations and mobility-fluctuations. But controversy still exits to its origin.

  • In this study, a gel polymer electrolyte was prepared from urethane acrylate and its electrochemical performances were evaluated. And, $LiCoO_2/GPE/graphite$ cells were prepared and their performances depending on discharge currents and temperatures were evaluated. The precursor containing $5 vol\%$ curable mixture had a low viscosity relatively. Ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolyte at room temperature and $-20^{\circ}C$ was ca. $5.9\times10^{-3}S{\cdot}cm^{-1}\;and\;1.7\times10^{-3}S{\cdot}cm^{-1}$, respectively. GPE showed electrochemical stability up to potential of 4.5V vs. $Li/Li^+.LiCoO_2/GPE/graphite$ cell showed a good high-rate and a low-temperature performance.

  • The remote measurement system(RMS) as a new experimental method is limited in its application to crack measurement at elevated temperatures because of the oxide layer on the specimen surface. Since TiAIN and Cr coating layers have a high resistance to oxidation and wear, this paper proposed a TiAIN and Cr coating technique for specimens to facilitate the measurement of crack growth behavior using RMS. To investigate the effects of the coating layer, tension and fatigue tests were carried out at room temperature and at $538^{\circ}C$. The test material was 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel which is widely used as a turbine rotor material. From the experimental results, it was found that the mechanical properties of the TiAIN and Cr coated specimens were similar to those of the substrate. Accordingly, the TiAIN and Cr coated layer had hardly any influence on the fatigue crack propagation.

Humidity-Sensing Properties of RF Sputtered Vanadium Oxide Thin Films (RF 스퍼터된 바나듐 산화막의 습도 감지 특성)

  • Vanadium oxide thin films (VOx) have been deposited by RF magnetron sputtering from $V_2O_5$ target under different oxygen partial pressure ratios(0%, 10%) and substrate temperatures$(27^{\circ}C,\;400^{\circ}C)$. Crystallographic structure and morphology of the films are studied by XRD and SEM. Humidity-sensing properties of resistive sensors having interdigitated electrode structure are characterized through electrical conduction measurements. The films deposited at room temperature are amorphous whereas the ones deposited above foot are polycrystalline. The sensors show good response to humidity over 20%RH to 80%RH. Vanadium oxide thin films deposited with $0%O_2$ partial pressure at $400^{\circ}C$ exhibit greater sensitivity to humidity change than others.
