Electrical fire simulation in control room of an AGN reactor

  • Fire protection is one of important issues to ensure safety and reduce risks of nuclear power plants (NPPs). While robust programs to shut down commercial reactors in any fires have been successfully maintained, the concept and associated regulatory requirements are constantly changing or strengthening by lessons learned from operating experiences and information all over the world. As part of this context, it is necessary not only to establish specific fire hazard assessment methods reflecting the characteristics of research reactors and educational reactors but also to make decisions based on advancement encompassing numerical analyses and experiments. The objectives of this study are to address fire simulation in the control room of an educational reactor and to discuss integrity of digital console in charge of main operation as well as analysis results through comparison. Three electrical fire scenarios were postulated and twenty-four thermal analyses were carried out taking into account two turbulence models, two cable materials and two ventilation conditions. Twelve supplementary thermal analyses and six subsequent structural analyses were also conducted for further examination on the temperature and heat flux of cable and von Mises stress of digital console, respectively. As consequences, effects of each parameter were quantified in detail and future applicability was briefly discussed. On the whole, higher profiles were obtained when Deardorff turbulence model was employed or polyvinyl chloride material and larger ventilation condition were considered. All the maximum values considered in this study met the allowable criteria so that safety action seems available by sustained integrity of the cable linked to digital console within operators' reaction time of 300 s.

창고 모델 실물화재 특성에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Warehouse Mock-up Fire Test)

  • 본 연구에서는 창고 화재 사고의 위험성을 파악하기 위해서 중규모 실물 화재 실험 장비인 룸코너 시험기(Room Corner Tester)를 통해 구축된 단위 구성품의 화재 특성 DB를 바탕으로 화재에 취약할 것으로 판단되는 의류 창고를 실험 모델로 구성하여 실물 화재실험 장비인 라지 스케일 칼로리미터(Large Scale Calorimeter)에서 실물 화재실험을 실시하였다. 창고 모델의($3m{\times}3m{\times}2.4m$) 벽체는 불연등급의 그라스울과 일반 스티로폼 샌드위치 패널로 구성하였다. 실험결과 최대 열방출률은 그라스울 샌드위치 패널 창고모델에서 5MW, 스티로폼 샌드위치 패널 창고모델에서 11MW를 나타내었다.

자동차 엔진룸 관련 전기 배선의 단락 및 열에 의한 절연피복 용융에 대한 화재사례 연구 (Study of Fire Examples for Electrical Wire Short and Insulated Coating Melting by Heating Including Automotive Engine Room)

  • 이 논문은 자동차 엔진룸에서 전기적인 접촉불량에 의한 단락현상과 엔진의 뜨거운 열에 의해 가연성 물질과 접촉하여 화재가 발생된 원인을 분석하고 연구하는 것이다. 첫째, 배터리에서 시동모터로 연결되어 있는 배터리 전원선이 자동변속기 상단에 배선을 고정시켜 주는 브래킷(Bracket) 볼트 이완으로 차체와의 단락 현상에 의해 화재가 발생된 것을 확인하였다. 둘째, 배터리에서 시동모터까지 가는 배선에 감은 절연테이프가 녹아 단락현상에 의해 화재를 일으킨 것을 확인하였다. 셋째, 냉각 팬 배선이 이완되어 과열된 엔진의 열에 의해 배선이 융착되어 화재가 발생된 것을 확인하였다 따라서, 엔진에 관련된 시스템의 화재는 엔진 및 각 시스템의 손상으로 자동차 탑승객을 위험에 처하게 하며, 화재 후 자동차는 재사용이 어렵게 되므로 시스템의 철저한 관리와 세심한 주의가 요구되어진다.

국내 원자력발전소의 공기 압축기실에서 윤활유 화재의 위험성 분석을 위한 FDS의 활용 (Application of FDS for the Hazard Analysis of Lubricating Oil Fires in the Air Compressor Room of Domestic Nuclear Power Plant)

  • The standard procedure of fire modeling was reviewed to minimize the user dependence, based on the NUREG-1934 and 1824 reports. The hazard analysis of lubricating oil fires in the air compressor room of domestic nuclear power plant (NPP) was also performed using a representative fire model, FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator). The area ($A_f$) and location of fire source were considered as major parameters for the realistic fire scenarios. As a result, the maximum probability to exceed the thermal damage criteria of IEEE-383 unqualified electrical cables was predicted as approximately 70% with $A_f=1m^2$. It was also found that for qualified electrical cables, the maximum probabilities of exceeding the criteria were 2% and 90% with $A_f=2$ and $4m^2$, respectively. It was concluded that all electrical cables should be replaced with IEEE-383 qualified cables and the dike to restrict as $A_f{\leq}2m^2$ should be installed at the same time, in order to assure the thermal stability of electrical cables for lubricating oil fires in the air compressor room of domestic NPP.

  • This study proposed the optimum design values for the biological clean room system observing the regulations of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). Even though the standard for industrial clean room system has been well established, the basis for biological food clean room system is the first stage. In order to prevent the contaminations in advance for food storages, processes, and distributions, the criterion of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point is positively required. This study also suggested the possible ways of how to avoid the hazardous contaminations.

LCD 제조공정 클린룸의 화재시 CFD를 이용한 제연성능 개선대책에 관한 연구 (A Study on Measures to Improve Smoke Control Performance in Case of Fire in a Clean room as an LCD Manufacturing Process)

  • 첨단산업기술인 반도체, LCD 등 제조의 핵심공정인 클린룸은 생산제품의 성능 및 품질에 절대적인 영향을 미치는 가장 중요한 공정이다. 그러나 국내는 방화공학적인 측면에서 과학적이고 종합안전대책에 대한 체계적인 연구가 제대로 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 연구는 LCD 제조공정 클린룸에 설치하는 제연시스템의 성능 및 문제점을 파악하여 이에 대한 개선방안을 도출하기 위하여 여러 시나리오를 고려한 화재시뮬레이션과 피난시뮬레이션을 통하여 분석하였다. LCD 제조공정의 클린룸 화재 및 연기확산에 대하여 분석한 결과 화재시 공조기의 연동정지는 반드시 필요하며 연기의 부력을 고려하여 FAB 상부에 배연을 할 수 있도록 하여야 한다. 또한 대규모 클린룸의 경우 화재특성상 스프링클러헤드의 집열 성능이 떨어지므로, 조기반응형 헤드의 설치 및 작동시간을 빠르게 하기 위한 보조장치를 설치하여야 한다. 특히, 대공간 클린룸은 자동화 공정으로 거주밀도가 낮지만, 복잡한 생산장비의 배치와 방진복을 착용하고 근무해야하는 환경특성 때문에 화재시 피난안전성능 확보가 어렵기 때문에 공정 내 위험요소의 철저한 관리 및 주기적인 교육과 훈련이 필요하며, 방재선진국의 기준에 준하는 수준의 국내 관련기술 기준을 정립할 필요가 있다.

  • Fire model shall be verified and validated to reliably show the predictive capabilities for a specific use. In the process of model verification and validation, both the acceptable uses and limitation of fire model are established. In this study, the results of FDS simulation are compared with the data of PRISME experiment such as temperature, heat release rate, heat flux, product concentrations in the under-ventilated two-room condition. Furthermore, the sensitivity of FDS under ventilation condition changes are evaluated. FDS provide the reliable prediction for under-ventilated two-room fire scenario with slightly deviation.

가구화재시 열적성층의 형성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Formations of Thermal Stratification of Furniture Fire)

  • The objective of this research is to study on the formations of thermal stratification in a room in case of several furniture fires such as trashcan, chair, carpet, sofa, mattress and wardrobe as a fire starter in a residential room by performing the experimental studies. The uniformly distributed fire in case of carpet showed that the ignition and the initial growth period were relatively short while the fully developed period was considerably long. The concentrated fires such as the mattress and wardrobe showed that the ignitions and the initial growth periods were relatively long. When fire spread to only one direction, like the case for the trashcan with a regular shape, there was one peak of temperature profile, and for the irregular shaped furniture such as chair, sofa, mattress and wardrobe, there were two or more peaks. The interface heights for the furniture fires were around 1(m) mataining constant state. However, at the time of the maximum temperature, the interface height was lowered to 0.25(m)-0.75(m) from the floor

화학공장의 소방안전을 위한 원격감시 제어시스템 개발 (The Development of a remote monitoring and control system for a Fire Protection of Chemical Factory)

  • At this study, we are developing a possible control system through remote monitoring for fire protection in various chemical factory facilities. It's possible to do real time confirmation of a normal operation presence of the various equipment installed in a chemical factory through the internet network at a fire fighting head office, an area fire department and a chemical factory situation room using this remote monitoring control system. When occurring, abnormal operation is the remote monitoring control system, which can check this immediately and notify the situation room administrator. After it was tested using developed remote monitoring control system, the remote monitoring for which the internet network was used confirmed possible.
