Design of Roll-over Protection Structure for an Orchard Sprayer (과수용 방제기 전도 방지 구조물의 설계)

  • Damage to agricultural production caused by insects and diseases affects farming yields. The orchard sprayer is mainly used in the country to protect the fruit in a large area, with less effort and at minimum cost. The excellent performance of the air blast spray increases the fruit protection. Chemical application in orchards has been accomplished by the orchard sprayers with air assist nozzles and a axial fan in Korea. However, the orchard sprayers without ROPS resulted in severe injury or death when operators drive the sprayers improperly on hilly orchard or farming road. This study was to develop a ROPS for the orchard sprayers improving farmer's safety. In this study, the accident case was used in analysing the design and building TOP structure of the orchard sprayer. The maximum impact, body torsion frame structures including the driver's protection are also analysed for adherence to safety regulations. The ROPS safety regulations according to the strength test results were established.

A Study on the Durability and Running Stability Evaluation of the Korean PRT (한국형 소형궤도차량(PRT)의 내구성 및 주행안정성 평가 연구)

  • The PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) system is highly interested to meet a need for demand-responsive transport service and increasing demands of traffic in Korea recently. And it is being spotlighted as an eco-friendly transportation system. For these reasons, researches on the PRT system are actively undergoing in Korea. In this study, we evaluated the static structural and fatigue strengths based on ASCE-APM standards and ERRI B 12/RP 17 by means of FE simulation. We also evaluate the running stability by multi-body dynamic analyses and the rollover safety by a theoretical static stability factor according to the road modeling scenarios for the PRT system. From the results of this study, we confirmed the durability and running stability of the Korean PRT under development.

  • Cabbage is one of the most important vegetable in Korea. The cabbage production was mainly based on human labor A comprehensive research fur substituting the human labor by machines has been performed until now. In general, cabbage is cultivated on hillside in Korea. Picking up the harvested cabbages in field and carrying to a vehicle fur transportation are very laborious work. Manual transportation of cabbage is likely to damage the quality and is also a cause to increase the cost of cabbage production. This study was to develop and evaluate a prototype cabbage loader fur efficient and safe transportation of cabbage. The developed loader was a semi-tracked vehicle operated by a hydraulic system, allowing the safe transportation and loading of cabbage in a steep field. The maximum loading weight of the loader was 1.0 ton. By using two sets of safety devices attached to the loader to avoid the roll-over in a steep field, the static rollover slopes were increased up to 34.0% and 37.4% fur the left and the rear direction, respectively The maximum field speed was about 6km/hr with two cabbage pallets of 750kg at a 25% inclined field. The loading capacity of the loader was about 35 pallets/hr when picking up, carrying, and unloading two cabbage pallets for one loading operation. The loading capacity was more than 8 times in comparison with the conventional human labor. The developed loader could be used fur loading and carrying the other vegetables. The study suggested a possible approach for designing the field machines operated on hillside.

Methodology for Estimating Safety Benefits of Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (첨단 운전자지원시스템의 교통안전 효과추정 방법론)

  • Recent advanced sensors and communication technologies have been widely applied to advanced safety vehicle (ASV) for reducing traffic accident and injury severity. To apply the advanced safety vehicle technologies, it is important to quantify the safety benefits, which is a fundamental for justifying application. This study proposed a methodology for quantifying the effectiveness of the advanced driver assistant system (ADAS), and applied the methodology to lane departure warning system (LDWS) and automatic emergency braking system (AEBS) which are typical advanced driver assistant systems. When the proposed methodology is applied to 2008-2010 gyeonggi-province crash data, LDWS would reduce about 10~14% of relevant crashes such as head-on, run-off-the road, rollover and fixed-object collisions on the road. In addition, AEBS could potentially prevent about 50% of total rear-end crashes. The outcomes of this study support decision making for developing not only vehicular technology but also relevant safety policies.

  • This paper is a study of Car safety network system using sensed data from varied sensors. This hardware will work with various sensors and communication protocols. There are many sensors. Then, I selected 3 sensors for test, which were sonic sensor for distance checking, tilt sensor for rollover and impact sensor for car accident and theft. Also, there are many interfaces for sensor. Therefore I designed hardware to support various sensor interfaces. For instance ADC(Analog to Digital converter), I2C, RS232, RS485, CAN. In this case, sonic sensor have I2C interface, tilt sensor have RS485 interface and Impact sensor have analog interface. In this research, I can gather sensing data from 3 sensors (mentioned above), and sending control signal to other processor with RS232, RS485, CAN communication. So, we can use easily this hardware for many cases of systems, which need sensors.

Worst-case Development and Evaluation for Vehicle Dynamics Controller in UCC HILS (차량자세제어 최악상황 개발 및 UCC HILS 시스템 기반 성능 평가)

  • The current test methods are insufficient to evaluate and ensure the safety and reliability of vehicle system for all possible dynamic situation including the worst case such as rollover, spin-out and so on. Although the known NHTSA Sine with dwell steering maneuvers are applied for the vehicle performance assessment, they aren't enough to estimate other possible worst case scenarios. Therefore, it is crucial for us to verify the various worst cases including the existing severe steering maneuvers. This paper includes useful worst case based upon the existing worst case scenarios mentioned above and worst case evaluation for vehicle dynamic controller in simulation basis and UCC HILS. The only human steering angle is selected as a design parameter here and optimized to maximize the index function to be expressed in terms of both yaw rate and side slip angle. The obtained scenarios were enough to generate the worst case to meet NHTSA worst case definition. It has been concluded that the new procedure in this paper is adequate to create other feasible worst case scenarios for a vehicle dynamic control system.

Development of an Inexpensive Black Box with Transmission of SOS and Theft Signal for an Agricultural Tractor (도난방지 및 구조신호 전송기능이 있는 저가형 농용트랙터 블랙박스 개발)

  • Purpose: The inexpensive black box system was developed to acquire and save driving information, to give the slope information, and to transmit SOS and theft signal. Method: The device consists of a main micro controller to acquire and save data, a GPS sensor module, a CDMA module, a touch LCD module, a RF (Radio Frequency) ID module, a SD (Secure Digital) card module, an emergency electric power source, a theftproof circuit, and a sensing device. The sensing device consists of a 8 bit micro controller, a accelerometer to detect impulse, two slope sensors to detect roll and pitch angle and a circuit to detect operation of 6 lighting devices. Results: Test results are as follows: 1) a tractor can be start up only with an electronic key (password or RFID card), 2) theft signal was transmitted when a tractor moved without an electronic key, 3) SOS was transmitted at conditions that rollover or crash happened. 4) 5 more than per 1s data are recorded at 5 minute intervals as new file name in SD card. Conclusions: This system can be used to save travelling record, reduce accident, prevent theft and rescue life in the accidents.

This paper includes the procedure to search for other useful worst case based upon the existing worst case scenarios mentioned above and its application in simulation basis. The only human steering angle is selected as a design parameter here and optimized to maximize the index function to be expressed in terms of either roll angle or yaw rate. The obtained scenarios were enough to generate the worst case to meet NHTSA worst case definition (ex.2-inch wheel lift). Additionally, as an application, the worst case steering maneuver is acquired for the vehicle to operate with a simple ESP system. It has been concluded that the new procedure in this paper is adequate to create other feasible worst case scenarios for a vehicle system both with an intelligent safety control system and without it.

  • With light vehicle weight gradually becoming ever more importance due to tightened exhaust gas regulations, hot-stamping processing using boron alloyed steel is being applied more and more by major automobile OEMs since process assures both moldability and a high strength of 1.5 GPa. Although laser trimming is generally applied to the post-processing of the hot-stamped process with high strength, there have been many studies of in-die hot trimming using shear dies during the quenching of material in order to shorten processing times. As such, this study investigated the effects of the Shear rate and Shear mechanism on shear processes during the quenching process of hot-stamping material. In case of pad variable, padding force is very weak compared with shear force, so it does not affect the shear surface. In case of shear rate, the higher the shear at high temperatures and the higher the friction effect. As a result the rollover and the fracture distribution decreased, and the burnish distribution increased. Therefore, it is considered that the shear quality is guaranteed when high shear rate is applied in high temperature shear process.

Development of ICT based Automated Detection & Propagation System for Accidents in Agricultural Machinery (농기계 안전사고 시 자동상황전파를 위한 ICT기반 시스템 개발)

  • Recently, the aging of agricultural society has caused a rapid increase in safety accidents in -agricultural machinery. Sometimes, the wounded may be left unattended resulting serious situation. In order to solve these problems, ICT technology is used to detect and inform the accident quickly when a safety accident such as overturning, collision or other accidents occurs during the operation or moving the agricultural machinery, such as cultivator, rearing machine, and tractor. A system capable of minimizing the amount of data is required. In this paper, an ICT - based automatic accident detection & propagation system is proposed for the agricultural machinery accident such as colliding crashes or overturning of agricultural machinery. The proposed system enables quick rescue by sending a text message automatically to family, acquaintances, hospitals and 119 in the event of an agricultural accident.
