  • Offshore Bridge Crane and Hoist which are used FPSO Ships that can move through self - power and have oil production, store and loading and unloading facilities are increasing demand. These equipments must use Crane safely by pitch and rolling of the high wave. For this, they have to be equipped with high durability and safety. So the advanced shipbuilding industries use a private design system which can be prompt in design and analyze in the first stage. For this study, It was developed a basic design system for "Bridge Crane and Hoist" used on FPSO ships. By developing this automated system for "Bridge Crane and Hoist" design, we will be able to make the design data easy to understand. This basic design system will help reduce the amount of working time it takes to design new systems, construct design databases and get approval for the finished design.

  • This study contributes to deepening understand of the characteristics of fishing vessel rolling motions to improve the development of capsizing alarm systems. A time domain rolling motion simulation was performed. In order to verify capsizing alarm systems, it is necessary to carry out experiments assuming a capsizing situation and perform actual fishing vessel measurements, but these tasks are impossible due to the danger of such a situation. However, in many capsizing accidents, a close connection with rolling motion was found. Accordingly, the rolling motion of a fishing boat, which is the core of a fishing vessel capsizing alarm system, has been accurately measured and a time domain based on a rolling motion simulation has been performed. This information was used to verify the algorithm for a capsizing alarm system. Firstly, the characteristics of rolling motion were measured through a motion experiment. For small vessels such as fishing vessels, it was difficult to interpret viscosity due to analytical methods including CFD and potential codes. Therefore, an experiment was carried out focusing on rolling motion and a rolling mode RAO was derived.

  • To ensure ship's safety and preserve the marine environment from ship, IMO(International Maritime Organization) has been making much efforts. Nevertheless there are still many possibilities threatening ship's safety and the marine environment. Many vessels navigate at sea in lack of standard required by the International Convention relevant to ship's safety and the protection of marine environment. Even though the administration is responsible for perfect and continuous control for safety of ship, it cannot has jurisdiction over ships hoist its flag reasonably at all times. So the Port State has strengthened the Port State Control(PSC) activity as one step of eliminating sub-standard vessels. In the light of the fact that mentioned above, this study deals with PSC activity in Korea and port of Pusan. Total 582 ships, inspected in port of Pusan from 1st January 1998 to 30th September 1999, were analyzed in various aspect and extracted results as follows : \circled1 The inspection rate in Korea was much lower than the other states taking part in Tokyo MOU, \circled2 For flag state, the ships belong to flag of convenience(FOC) had much more deficiencies than non-convenience flag ships, \circled3 For ship type, 39 number of general dry cargo ship were detained at Pusan with serious deficiencies, \circled4 For deficiency item, the items such as life saving appliances, safety in general, navigation, load lines and fire-fighting appliances were occupied over 71.7% of total number of deficiencies, \circled5 In Asia-Pacific region, Korea was one of flags with detention percentages exceeding 3-year(1996~1998) rolling average detention percentage. Average detention rate of Korean vessels was 6.73% which was over 0.24% of average detention rate(6.49%) in Asia-Pacific region. These results may reflect to improve the performance of PSC inspection for foreign vessels and are useful for preparing PSC inspection for ocean-going ships registered in Korea.

  • The rolling motion of a floating body makes crews and passengers exhausted and/or applies forces to the structure to cause damage; it might even upset the body. Therefore, almost all ships are equipped with bilge keels for anti-rolling; in special cases, an anti-rolling tank(ART) or fin stabilizer or gyroscope could be installed. But an ART requires a large capacity to install it, and a fin stabilizer and gyroscope need great costs to install and also many expenses to operate. The authors suggest the use of an anti-rolling pendulum(ARP), and they showed that the ARP is effective to reduce rolling by experiments and via a Runge-Kutta analysis. This paper introduces the linearized 2 degrees of freedom with a viscous damping system for a ship equipped with ARP; it also shows the validation of the linearized analysis for the ship's roll motion. The paper proposes an optimum ARP on the basis of the justified model. The case of the 7.7kg model with ship 20g ARP of a mass ratio of 0.26%, is the most effective for reducing roll motion. The paper shows the ARPs with various mass ratios are effective for reducing the roll motion of a ship by free decaying roll experiments.

  • Fishing boat capsizing accidents account for more than half of all capsize accidents. These can occur for a variety of reasons, including inexperienced operation, bad weather, and poor maintenance. Due to the size and influence of the industry, technological complexity, and regional diversity, fishing ships are relatively under-researched compared to commercial ships. This study aimed to predict the rolling motion time series of fishing boats using an image-based deep learning model. Image-based deep learning can achieve high performance by learning various patterns in a time series. Three image-based deep learning models were used for this purpose: Xception, ResNet50, and CRNN. Xception and ResNet50 are composed of 177 and 184 layers, respectively, while CRNN is composed of 22 relatively thin layers. The experimental results showed that the Xception deep learning model recorded the lowest Symmetric mean absolute percentage error(sMAPE) of 0.04291 and Root Mean Squared Error(RMSE) of 0.0198. ResNet50 and CRNN recorded an RMSE of 0.0217 and 0.022, respectively. This confirms that the models with relatively deeper layers had higher accuracy.

  • The present study numerically models the interaction between a regular wave and the roll motion of a rectangular floating structure. In order to simulate two-dimensional incompressible viscous two-phase flow in a numerical wave tank with the rectangular floating structure, the present study used the volume of fluid method based on the finite volume method. The sliding mesh technique is adopted to handle the motion of the rectangular floating structure induced by fluid-structure interaction. The effect of the wave period on the flow, roll motion and forces acting on the structure is examined by considering three different wave periods. The time variations of the wave height and the roll motion of the rectangular structure are in good agreement with experimental results for all wave periods. The present response amplitude operator is in good agreement with experimental results with the linear potential theory. The present numerical results effectively represent the entire process of vortex generation and evolution described by the experimental results. The longer wave period showed a different mechanism of the vortex evolution near each bottom corner of the structure compared to cases of shorter wave periods. In addition, the x-directional and z-directional forces acting on the structure are analyzed.

  • The performance of a wave energy converter (WEC) that uses the rolling motion of a partially submerged pendulum plate in front of a quay wall was analyzed. The wave exciting moment and hydrodynamic moment were obtained using a matched eigenfunction expansion method (MEEM) based on the linear potential theory, and then the roll motion response of a pendulum plate, time averaged extracted power, and efficiency were investigated. The optimal PTO damping coefficient was suggested to give the optimal extracted power. The peak value of the optimal extracted power occurs at the resonant frequency. The resonant peak and its width increase as the submergence depth of the pendulum plate decreases and thickness of the pendulum plate increases. An increase in the wave incidence angle reduces the efficiency of the wave energy converter. In addition, the WEC using a rolling pendulum plate contributes not only to the extraction of the wave energy, but also to a reduction in the waves reflected from the quay wall, which helps to stabilize ships going near the quay wall.

  • To predict rolling performance for a barge-type FPSO, the evaluation of correct nonlinear roll damping is critical. The squall section of FPSO causes a fair amount of viscous damping effect. Free roll decoy tests were conducted to estimate nonlinear roll damping for a barge-typ FPSO of three different loading conditions. The roll motion RAO was deduced by model tests in the wave condition of wideband spectrum. In numerical calculation, the quadratic damping was considered as equivalent linear damping using the results of free roll decay test. Tested roll performance in JONSWAP wave spectrum was compared with numerical results. These two results show good agreement, in spite of proximity in peak wave period and roll natural period.

  • It is well known that the aluminizing steel is excellent in corrosion resistance and heat resistance. Therefore it has been used as boiler parts, heat exchanger parts and guide rails which are used under comparatively simple conditions. Recently, it has been noticed that aluminizing steel has high resistance to various atmosphere, high temperature oxidation and seawater resistance. So its usage has been extended widely to the production of parts such as intake and exhaust valve of internal combustion engine, turbine blade and pipelines On ships which required such properties. It is considered that aluminium coated steel is excellent in wear resistance because of high hardness on main ingredient FezAIs of Fe-AI alloy layer existed in diffusion coating layer. And it will beused as a new material taking wear resitance with seawater resistance in marine field. However it is difficult to findout any report concering the wear behaviors or properties of alum in izing steel. In this study the experiment was carried out under the condition of rolling-sliding contact using an Amsler-type wear testing machine at 0.80, 0.91, 1. 10, 1. 25% of slip ratio and 55.43, 78.38, 110.85 kg/mm^2 of Hertz's contact stress in run-in period for the purpose of service-ability test of aluminizing steel as a wear resisting material and obtaining the available design data. The followings are the obtained results from the experimen tal study; 1) The 2nd diffusion material has most excellent wear resistance. This material has brought out about 18% decrease of wear weight in a lower friction load level and 40~G decrease in a higher level comparing to the raw material. 2) Satisfactory effect of wear resistivity cannot be much expected in 2nd diffusion specimens. This is considered due to the formation of fine void in the alloy layer near the boundary to the aluminium layer. 3) Fracture on friction surface of aluminizing steel by the rolling-sliding contact is spalling, and spalling crack occurres initially beneath the specimen surface near the boundary in diffusion coating layer.
