망점의 크기와 형상이 잉크 전이에 미치는 영향에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Influence of Dot Geometry on Ink Transfer in Gravure Printing)

  • The pattern shape engraved on the gravure printing roll is one of the most important factors influencing ink transfer. This study focuses on the relations between dot geometry engraved on gravure printing roll and the ink transfer during the gravure printing process. The influence of dot width on printed patterns will be demonstrated. Results reveal that as the width of a dot on the printing roll increases, the ink transfer rate also increases. But over a certain size of width, surface uniformity began to recede. Therefore, proper dot geometry on the printing roll should be decided to guarantee good printing quality according to printing conditions and expected performance of the electronic devices.

  • 최근 RFID, 유연디스플레이, 태양전지, 전자 종이 등의 소자를 프린팅 방식을 이용하여 생산하려는 연구가 활발하게 진행 되고 있다. 이런 방식이 기존의 노광기술과 식각기술에 의존하는 반도체 공정에 비해 가격 경쟁력에서 우수하기 때문이다. 특히 RFID, 유연디스플레이, 태양전지, 전자 종이 등은 유연성과 대량생산을 필요로 하기 때문에 롤투롤(roll to roll)공정과 같은 저가격화, 대형생산화에 관심이 집중되고 있다. 이 롤투롤 기술을 사용하기 위해서는 인쇄 패턴의 빠른 구현, 표면 균일도, 두께 등의 높은 인쇄 품질이 보장 되어야 한다. 본 연구는 실험계획법(Design of Experiment)을 적용하여 인자들의 주효과와 교호작용 효과를 분석하고, 롤투롤 전자인쇄 시스템에서 닙 롤의 특성에 따른 인쇄 품질의 영향과 인쇄 품질의 향상 방안을 찾기 위한 매칭기술을 제안 하였다.

  • Recently, a variety of printing technologies, including ink jet, gravure, and roll-to-roll (R2R) printing, has generated intensive interest in the application of flexible and wearable electronic devices. However, the actual use of printing technique is much limited because the sintering process of the printed nanoparticle inks remains as a huge practical drawback. In the fabrication of the conductive metal film, a post-sintering process is required to achieve high conductivity of the printed film. The conventional thermal sintering takes considerable sintering times, and requires high temperatures. For application to flexible devices, the sintering temperature should be as low as possible to minimize the damage of polymer substrate. Several alternative sintering methods were suggested, such as laser, halogen lamp, infrared, plasma, ohmic, microwave, and etc. Eventually, the new sintering technique should be applicable to large area, R2R, and polymer substrate as well as low cost. This article reviews progress in recent technologies for several sintering methods. The advantages and disadvantages of each technology will be reviewed. Several issues for the application in R2R process are discussed.

Roll-to-roll 시스템에서 인쇄전자 생산을 위한 댄서 시스템의 LQG 정밀 장력 제어에 대한 연구 (A Study on the LQG Precision Tension Control of a Dancer System for a Production of Printed Electronics in Roll-to-roll Systems)

  • For mass production of printed electronics in roll-to-roll fashion, precision tension control is important to reduce register errors. Register error should be minimized within several to tens of microns for many electronic devices to be manufactured through printing technology. In order to achieve this goal, tension disturbance must be attenuated before printing process within a certain range. In this paper, a certain tension range which allows maintaining register error within 10 micron was defined with specific operating conditions. A LQG controller was proposed instead of the conventional PI controller for precision tension control using a multivariable feedback. A guideline to determine design parameters for calculating LQ gain was proposed. The proposed LQG controller was compared to both PI controller and LQ regulator with white noise by numerical simulations. Results showed that the proposed LQG controller was effective for attenuating tension disturbance with white noise.

데이터 보상을 통한 롤투롤 인쇄 장비의 레지스터 오차 인식 개선 및 제어 (Improvement of Recognition of Register Errors and Register Control in Roll-to-roll Printing Equipment by Data Compensation)

  • Register control of roll-to-roll printing system for printed electronics requires accurate measurement of register errors. The register marks used for the recognition of patterns position between layers have inherently defects due to low printability of register marks themselves, which brings out inaccurate register accuracy and consequently low performance of printed electronics devices. In this study, the compensation methods for the unrecognized or missing register data are proposed to improve the recognition and consequently the control performance of register accuracy in roll-to-roll printing equipment. The compensation methods using the prior data and the linear interpolation are proposed and compared with the case without compensation for the simulation as well as experiment. Only the linear interpolation method could successfully compensate the missing data and consequently improve the register control performance. We should apply the compensation process of the register errors to improve the register control accuracy in the roll-to-roll printing equipment.

롤투롤 전자인쇄 건조공정의 공기역학적 특성분석 (Analysis on Aerodynamic Characteristics of Drying Process in R2R Printed Electronics)

  • Roll to Roll (R2R) is one of the most promising production technologies in the printed electronics such as OLEDs, e-paper, backplanes, RFID because this technology can save production cost and increase production speed. Printed electronics includes various processes such as printing, drying, winding, unwinding, and so on. In printed electronics R2R system, air-flotation oven is employed for drying process. Therefore, it is essential to introduce efficient and fast drying process when printing is finished. This paper considers the analysis of drying process in R2R that involves hot air flow. Air-flotation oven consists of non-contact supports and drying of coated web materials such as plastic films and paper. In this paper, experimental results and numerical analysis of pressure-pad air bar are investigated. The aerodynamic characteristics of pressure-pad air bar are numerically calculated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach. Then the measured values of the aerodynamic forces for air bars are compared with those of CFD analysis.

롤투롤 인쇄전자공정에서 중첩정밀도 향상을 위한 정렬패턴과 위치 측정시스템 (Alignment Patterns and Position Measurement System for Precision Alignment of Roll-to-Roll Printing)

  • 인쇄전자는 RFID 나 유연 디스플레이 등의 전자회로나 소자를 인쇄방식으로 제작하는 공정이다. 특히 롤투롤과 같은 웹 이송방식 프린팅은 얇은 필름형태의 웹(Web)에 그라비아 인쇄나 고속 잉크젯과 같은 방법으로 이송중인 웹 상에 회로를 형성하는 공법이다. 이 공정은 생산단가가 저렴하고 고속생산이 가능하다는 이점이 있다. 다층구조를 가지는 회로나 디바이스를 생산할 때, 층과 층을 얼마나 정확하게 중첩시켜 인쇄하는가 하는 것은 인쇄된 전자회로의 집적도와 성능을 결정짓는 중요한 요소이다. 인쇄전자공법을 상용화하기 위해서 높은 중첩정밀도 구현이 선행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 롤투롤 인쇄방식에서 중첩정밀도의 향상을 위한 위치측정 시스템을 제안하고 신뢰성을 확인하였다. 또한 웹이 변형되었을 때의 측정 강인성도 실험적으로 확인하였다.
