The relationship between the reflection number obtained from seismic reflective survey and the rock strength value obtained from TBM excavation is examined, and the procedure of the conversion from the reflection number to the rock strength value is proposed. Subsequently, geostatistical method is employed to evaluate the rock properties ahead of the tunnel face and around the tunnel with good precision, using both the seismic reflective survey data and the TBM driving data for the purpose of the tunnel driving and enlargement. The applicability of this evaluation method is examined at the actual tunnel site.
The block theory with stereographic projection was applied and analyzed on the tunnel section of Samcheok Coal Mine. The results were as follows ; 1) Prevail orientations of discontinuity of sandstone around the main driftway of Samcheok Coal Mine were $(327^{\circ},\;44^{\circ}),\;(13^{\circ},\;24^{\circ}),\;(204^{\circ},\;65^{\circ})$ and $(225^{\circ},\;77^{\circ})$ in dip and dip direction, respectively. 2) Movable blocks of the site were 0110, 0111, 1110(roof), 0100, 0110, 1110(right wall) and 0001, 1001, 1011(left wall). Because of the direction of tunnel, blocks of the left wall was safe. thus key blocks were those of the roof and the right wall. Maximum height of key block was larger than the width of the tunnel but 2m of the yielded zone is expected in general for 5m width tunnel. 3) It is shown that block theory is applicable to large cavern in hard rock analysis.
Ground vibrations are an integral part of the process of rock blasting. The sudden acceleration of the rock by the detonation gas pressure acting on the drillhole walls induces dynamic stresses in the surrounding rock mass. This sets up a wave motion in the ground much like the motion in a bowl of jelly when disturbed by the action of a spoon. The wave motion spreads concentrically from the blasting site, particularly along the ground surface, and is therefore attenuated, since its fixed energy is spread over a greater and greater mass of material as it moves away from its origin. Some theoretical aspects of the generation and propagation of vibrations produced in rock blasting are analyzed; although it must be indicated that this is just a mere approximation to the problem, as the actual phenomena are much more complex owing to the interaction of different types of waves and their modifying mechanics.

Fluid Confirmation Tests(FCT) on 1500 ground Anchors install in weathered rock were carried out to investigate upper and lower limit of elastic elongation, frictional resistant of fixed anchor body, mobilized angle between anchor body and soil. All the measured data were analysed and compared with theoretical equations. The frictional angles of diaphragm wall and anchorage system in weathered rock showed nonlinear curve between upper and lower limit of standard elongation. The FCT results indicated that the frictional resistant angles increased with higher values of surcharge load. The quality assurance on the fixed anchor location was investigated by means of measuring elastic elongation during the FCT, and comparing these with theoretical design length, the quality of anchors in this particular site found to be above average standard. The results of this research works with provide valuable guide line on quality assurance of anchors system as well as resonable prediction of friction resistance between the fixed anchor body and the weathered rock.

In large construction site, although soil conversion factor is so significant to preliminary design, operation design and calculating the cost of construction that it is important to take reasonable estimation and application, the standard of soil conversion factor for weathered ground doesn't clearly suggested yet. So in this study, at first we obtain the image using DSLR - high resolution camera and Laser scanner in the Haeng-Bok city constructin site, then analysis the ratio of soil and rock using various image processing method(Sobel method, Laplace method, Highpass filter, Hue and Saturation analysis). Mutual comparation with the result of image processing analysis and manual segmentation of 5case image in the cad. As a result, best image processing method was different for each case. In case of high propotion of rock, Laplace was best and in case of high propotion of soil, Highpass was best, and mixed case Laplace was best.
The choice of attenuation relationships is one of the most important parts of seismic hazard analysis as using a different attenuation relationship will cause significant differences in the final result, particularly in near distances. This problem is responsible for huge sensibilities of attenuation relationships which are used in seismic hazard analysis. For achieving this goal, attenuation relationships require a good compatibility with the target region. Many researchers have put substantial efforts in their studies of strong ground motion predictions, and each of them had an influence on the progress of attenuation relationships. In this study, two attenuation relationships are presented using seismic data of Mazandaran province in the north of Iran by Genetic Expression Programming (GEP) algorithm. Two site classifications of soil and rock were considered regarding the shear wave velocity of top 30 meters of site. The quantity of primary data was 93 records; 63 of them were recorded on rock and 30 of them recorded on soil. Due to the shortage of records, a regression technique had been used for increasing them. Through using this technique, 693 data had been created; 178 data for soil and 515 data for rock conditions. The Results of this study show the observed PGA values in the region have high correlation coefficients with the predicted values and can be used in seismic hazard analysis studies in the region.

In tunnel construction, the information on the rock quality and the location of fault or fracture are crucial for economical design of support pattern and for safe construction of the tunnel. The grade of rock is commonly estimated through the observation with the naked eye of recovered cores in drilling or from physical parameters obtained by their laboratory test. Since drilling cost is quite expensive and terrains of planned sites for tunnel construction are rough in many cases, however, only limited information could be provided by core drilling Electrical resistivity and EM surveys may be a clue to get over this difficulty. Thus we have investigated electrical resistivity and EM field data providing regional Information of the rock Quality and delineating fault and fracture over a rough terrain. In this paper, we present some case histories using electrical resistivity and EM survey for the site investigation of tunnel construction. Through electrical resistivity and EM survey, the range and depth of coal seam was clearly estimated, cavities were detected in limestone area, and weak zones such as joint, fault and fracture have been delineated.

Appropriate investigation of ground condition near excavation face in tunnelling is an inevitable process for safe and economical construction. In this study mechanical parameters from drilling process for blasting were investigated for the purpose of predicting the ground condition, especially rock mass strength, ahead of tunnel face. Rock mass strength is one of the most important factors for classification of rock mass and making a decision of support type in underground construction. Several rock specimens which are considered homogeneous and having different strength values respectively were tested by hydraulic drill machines generally used. As a result, penetration rate is fairly related with rock mass strength among drilling parameters. It is also found that penetration rate increases along with the higher impact pressure even under same rock strength condition. It is finally suggested that new prediction method for rock mass strength using percussive pressure and penetration rate during drilling work can be utilized well in construction site.
Building tunnels means dealing with what rock is encountered. Relocation of the site of the underground structure is rarely possible. Tunneling engineers and miners have to cope with the quality of the rock mass as it is. Different tunneling philosophies and different rock classification methods have been developed in various countries. Most of the rock classification methods are based on the response of the rock mass to the excavation. Tunnel support requirements could be assessed analytically, supplemented by rock mass classification predictions, and verified by measurements during construction. Rock mass classifications on their own should only be used for preliminary, planning purposes and not for final tunnel support. Design of blast pattern in tunneling projects in Korea is also mostly prepared according to the general rock classification methods such as RMR or Q. They, however, do not take into account the blast performance, and as a consequence, produce poor blasting results. In this paper, the methods of general rock classification and blast design for tunnel excavation in Korea are reviewed, and efforts to develop a new classification method, reflecting the blasting performance, are presented.
