  • Auto Guided Vehicle (AGV) equipped with mecanum wheels can move in all directions, unlike ordinary wheeled AGVs. In this paper, we propose a robust trejectory tracking control method for the mecanum wheeled AGVs in the presence of disturbances. It is constructed by combining impedance control with Integral Sliding Mode Control (ISMC), which shows robust performance against disturbances, and adding a disturbance observer (DOB) that estimates and removes disturbances. Simulation result using MATLAB/SIMULINK shows that the proposed control method has robust performance in tracking the reference trajectory under the circumstance with disturbance. The control performance is further improved when the disturbance observer is additionally used. In addition, the performance of the proposed control method was verified through experiment. It shows the result of tracking the set trajectory well.

  • Video based object tracking normally deals with non-stationary image streams that change over time. Robust and real time moving object tracking is considered to be a problematic issue in computer vision. Multiple object tracking has many practical applications in scene analysis for automated surveillance. In this paper, we introduce a specified object tracking based particle filter used in an environment of multiple moving objects. A differential image region based tracking method for the detection of multiple moving objects is used. In order to ensure accurate object detection in an unconstrained environment, a background image update method is used. In addition, there exist problems in tracking a particular object through a video sequence, which cannot rely only on image processing techniques. For this, a probabilistic framework is used. Our proposed particle filter has been proved to be robust in dealing with nonlinear and non-Gaussian problems. The particle filter provides a robust object tracking framework under ambiguity conditions and greatly improves the estimation accuracy for complicated tracking problems.

  • This paper presents a dynamic compensation methodology for robust trajectory tracking control of uncertain robot manipulators. To improve tracking performance of the system, a full model-based feedforward compensation with continuous VS-type robust control is developed in this paper(i.e,. robust decentralized adaptive control scheme). Since possible bounds of uncertainties are unknown, the adaptive bounds of the robust control is used to directly estimate the uncertainty bounds(instead of estimating manipulator parameters as in centralized adaptive control0. The global stability and robustness issues of the proposed control algorithm have been investigated extensively and rigorously via a Lyapunov method. The presented control algorithm guarantees that all system responses are uniformly ultimately bounded. Thus, it is shown that the control system is evaluated to be highly robust with respect to significant uncertainties.

  • In this paper, we study the tracking performance of a torsion disk system where the plant is required to track a triangular-type command signal with a small steady state error and delay. We investigate the tracking performance of the traditional inner/outer loop approach and underline its limitations in high performance applications. We then design a more advanced controller using the mixed sensitivity robust control approach and show that the tracking performance of the system can be improved substantially. The success of the design, even for the case of lightly damped plants such as the one considered in this paper, is largely the result of the proper weights selection used in the mixed sensitivity design. The main contribution of this paper is, therefore, the development of design guidelines for the weights selection when accurate tracking of periodic reference signals are desired.

  • This paper proposes a new and simple input prediction method for robust servo system. A robust tracking control system for optical disk drives was proposed recently based on both Coprime Factorization (CF) and Zero Phase Error Tracking (ZPET) control. The CF control system can be designed simply and systematically. Moreover, this system has not only stability but also robustness to parameter uncertainties and disturbance rejection capability. Since optical disk tracking servo system can detect only tracking error, it was proposed that the reference input signal for ZPET could be estimated from tracking errors. In this paper, we propose a new control structure for the ZPET controller. It requires less memory than the previously proposed method for the reference signal generation. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed method is effective.

  • In this paper, a robust correlation-based video tracking is proposed to track a moving object in correlated image sequences. A correlation-based video tracking algorithm seeks to align the incoming target image with the reference target block image, but has critical problems, so called a false-peak problem and a drift phenomenon (correlator walk-off. The false-peak problem is generally caused by highly correlated background pixels with similar intensity of a moving target and the drift phenomenon occurs when tracking errors accumulate from frame to frame because of the nature of the correlation process. At first, the false-peaks problem for the ordinary correlation-based video tracking is investigated using a simple mathematical analysis. And, we will suggest a robust selective-attention correlation measure with a gradient preprocessor combined by a drift removal compensator to overcome the walk-off problem. The drift compensator adaptively controls the template block size according to the target size of interest. The robustness of the proposed method for practical application is demonstrated by simulating two real-image sequences.

  • This paper introduces a position-based robust visual servoing method which is developed for operation of a human-like robot with two arms. The proposed visual servoing method utilizes SIFT algorithm for object detection and CAMSHIFT algorithm for object tracking. While the conventional CAMSHIFT has been used mainly for object tracking in a 2D image plane, we extend its usage for object tracking in 3D space, by combining the results of CAMSHIFT for two image plane of a stereo camera. This approach shows a robust and dependable result. Once the robot's task is defined based on the extracted 3D information, the robot is commanded to carry out the task. We conduct several position-based visual servoing tasks and compare performances under different conditions. The results show that the proposed visual tracking algorithm is simple but very effective for position-based visual servoing.

  • The switched reluctance motor(SRM) has been increasingly used in high-performance servo applications such as electric vehicles, aircraft, and direct-drive robots. The dynamic equations of SRMs are, however, highly nonlinear and this makes it difficult to control SRMs with high performance. In this paper, we propose a new robust current tracking controller for SAMs which can compensate the nonlinear characteristics of SRM(i.e., back-emf and inductance) completely and hence shows perfect tracking performance even with an arbitrary small current control loop gain. Furthermore, even in case that there exist some model uncertainties, our current controller guarantees that the stator currents can track the reference current commands with sufficiently small tracking errors. In order to justify our work, we present the tracking performance analysis and some simulation results.

  • This paper presents a new approach to design a robust tracking controller for linear time-invariant systems with uncertain time-delay. By introducing the model following control (MFC) structure which consists of two loops in nature, we show that the controller is capable of having a predictive control action and effectively tracking the reference output with a desired transient response as well. Three design techniques to achieve good tracking performance are suggested. It is also analytically shown that the tracking performance of the proposed scheme is more robust than that of typical single-loop feedback structure. An illustrative example is given to compare the tracking performances of the proposed methods with a single loop method.
