In this paper, I-PDA controller based on Coefficient Diagram Method incorporating feedforward controller is applied by robotic manipulators. Robotic manipulator models contain uncertain elements, which are not known exactly. Therefore, the dynamics of robotic manipulators are generally classified as uncertain dynamic system. The controller considered for the robotic manipulators need to move payloads of different masses from one point to another with good balance of the stability and response, consequently we propose I-PDA controller based on Coefficient Diagram Method incorporating FFC. The effectiveness of the controller for different system type of robotic manipulators is demonstrated by the simulation results.
In the development of a high speed and light weight manipulator, it is necessary to consider the structural elasticity of a robotic arm. The analysis of the infinite mode dynamic of robotic arm must be performed to obtain the finite mode modelling to achieve the feasible controller design of the robotic arm. The modelling procedure of the robotic arm is also illustrated. The controlled mode of the modelled dynamic can be derived by truncating the higher vibrational mode to result in the low order system for the sampling in the control signal is confined to the higher mode. And it is controlled by the pole assignment which can compensate the unmodelled dynamic effects. The unmodelled dynamic can result in the instability of the controlled system, which is known as spillover. The controller design of the low order system is simulated by the pole assignment and optimal control theory.
In this study, a design process of robotic cell is presented. This paper focuses only on the automation of workpiece handling with robot. The presented design process enables us to analyze effectiv ely the original production system and to redesign it as an optimum production system with robots. An original production system is analyzed with respect to its economical and technological requirements for automation. If automation of the given production system is feasible, the conceptual design for automation is firstly derived. Next, the detail design is derived for the optimum conceptual design. Finally, an optimum system solution is determined after the economical and technical evaluation of all the derived detail designs. The all specifications of each element of the redesigned production system and its layout are determined at the detail design phase. This paper shows a low cost supporting tool for layout design of robotic cell with SCARA type robots.
This paper presents a robot system developed for medical purpose. A 6-degree-of-freedom robot was introduced for physical exercise and rehabilitation. This system was proposed for stroke patients or patients who cannot use one of their arms or legs. The robot system exercises the hemiplegic part based on the motion of normal part of a patient. Kinematic studies on the human body and robot were applied to develop the robotic rehabilitation exercise system. A clamp which acts as an end effector of the robot to hold a patient was designed and applied to the robot to guarantee the safety of patients. The proposed robotic rehabilitation system was verified by simulations and experiments on arm (elbow and shoulder) motion. Patients are expected to be able to exercise various motions by themselves with the proposed robotic rehabilitation system.
Purposes: This study was to validate the Robotic Smart Work System that can provides better working conditions and high productivity in unstructured environments like bio-industry, based on a tele-operation system for fruit harvesting with low cost 3-D positioning system on the laboratory level. Methods: For the Robotic Smart Work System for fruit harvesting and cultivation management in agriculture, a vision based tele-operating system and 3-D position information are key elements. This study proposed Robotic Smart Farming, an agricultural version of Robotic Smart Work System, and validated a 3-D position information system with a low cost omni camera and a laser marker system in the lab environment in order to get a vision based tele-operating system and 3-D position information. Results: The tasks like harvesting of the fixed target and cultivation management were accomplished even if there was a short time delay (30 ms ~ 100 ms). Although automatic conveyor works requiring accurate timing and positioning yield high productivity, the tele-operation with user's intuition will be more efficient in unstructured environments which require target selection and judgment. Conclusions: This system increased work efficiency and stability by considering ancillary intelligence as well as user's experience and knowhow. In addition, senior and female workers will operate the system easily because it can reduce labor and minimized user fatigue.
The role of transoral robotic surgery in the treatment of upper aerodigestive tract tumor has expanded in recent. Since the approval of the da Vinci system, the number of transoral robotic surgery has increased significantly. The main indications of transoral robotic surgery are tumors of oropharynx, hypopharynx, and larynxs. Transoral robotic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical approach that offers surgical access to the laryngopharynx without the morbidity of open surgeries while achieving excellent oncologic and functional outcomes. The appropriate application of transoral robotic surgery is still being investigated and previous studies supports transoral robotic surgery as a viable option in the management of upper aerodigestive tract tumor.
Sub-assembly in ship manufacturing is a sequence of filet joint welding of stiffeners on metal panels and the process is different depending on companies. In this paper, we introduce a new intelligent robotic system of the sub-assembly process in Samsung Heavy Industry, where one shift of 22m * 9m workspace includes one to ten panels and each panel includes up to 10 stiffeners. The inherent problems such as several hundreds of different panels, unstructured task environment and the large scale do not allow a fixed automation, but needs highly intelligent versatile automation. The robotic system is composed of four 14DOF macro-mini robots and a task recognition system. Application of this system has verified the task specification such as low temperature environment(-10.deg. C) and productivity is satisfied successfully.
During the intramedullary nailing procedure, surgeons feel difficulty in manipulation of the X-ray device to align it to axes of nailing holes and suffer from the large radiation exposure from the X-ray device. These problems are caused by the fact the surgeon cannot see the hole's location directly and should use the X-ray device to find the hole's location and direction. In this paper, we proposed the robotic guidance of the distal screwing using an optical tracking system. To track the location of the hole for the distal screwing, the reference marker is attached to the proximal end of an intramedullary nail. To guide the drill's direction robustly, the 6-degree-of-freedom robotic arm is used. The robotic arm is controlled so as to align the drill guiding tool attached the robotic arm with the obtained the hole's location. For the safety, the robot's linear and angular velocities are restricted to the predefined values. The experimental results using the artificial bones showed that the position error and the orientation error were 0.91 mm and $1.64^{\circ}$, respectively. The proposed method is simple and easy to implement, thus it is expected to be adopted easily while reducing the radiation exposure significantly.
