ROS-based control for a robot manipulator with a demonstration of the ball-on-plate task

  • Robotics and automation are rapidly growing in the industries replacing human labor. The idea of robots replacing humans is positively influencing the business thereby increasing its scope of research. This paper discusses the development of an experimental platform controlled by a robotic arm through Robot Operating System (ROS). ROS is an open source platform over an existing operating system providing various types of robots with advanced capabilities from an operating system to low-level control. We aim in this work to control a 7-DOF manipulator arm (Robai Cyton Gamma 300) equipped with an external vision camera system through ROS and demonstrate the task of balancing a ball on a plate-type end effector. In order to perform feedback control of the balancing task, the ball is designed to be tracked using a camera (Sony PlayStation Eye) through a tracking algorithm written in C++ using OpenCV libraries. The joint actuators of the robot are servo motors (Dynamixel) and these motors are directly controlled through a low-level control algorithm. To simplify the control, the system is modeled such that the plate has two-axis linearized motion. The developed system along with the proposed approaches could be used for more complicated tasks requiring more number of joint control as well as for a testbed for students to learn ROS with control theories in robotics.

  • The rehailitation robot, one of the service robot, is the important area in the service automation. In the paper, we describe the overall configuration of KARES(KAIST Rehabilitation Engineering System), which is an intellingent rehabilitaion robotic system designed to assist the independent livelihood of the handicapped and the eldrly. KARES consists of the 6 degree of freedom robot arm mounted on a wheelchair, the controller ofr the arm, sensors to perceive environment, and user interface. Basic desired hobs in KARES are gripping the target object and moving it to the user's face for eating, drinking, or cooperation work wiht the mouth. Currently, the manual operation of the arm is available for gripping to target objects. The autonomous functionality will be ginven for the facilities of the human operator.

  • In this paper, an unilateral teleoperation system using an universal master arm is developed. This system is composed of an universal master arm, a slave arm and a telerobot controller. The universal master arm has a vertically articulated type link structure, while an industrial robot is used as a slave arm. As the shapes of master arm and slave arm are different, the workspace mapping is needed, which maps the workspace of master arm to that of slave arm. Experimental results show that the slave arm of the developed system effectively follows the operator's motion.

  • In considering the singularities of robot, singularity avoidance control of robot wrist is very important. Because it is more difficult structurally to exclude the wrist singularity than the arm singularity. Since control policies with Jacobian may bring about mathematical singularities, control policies with Euler parameters that never cause mathematical singularities are necessary. In this research, singular status of robot wrist was analyzed and control algorithms for 3 and 4 axes robot wrist were proposed. Application results of the proposed control algorithms to the path including singularity showed us usefulness and validity.

  • In this paper, it is presented a new technique to the design and real-time implementation of fuzzy control system based-on digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness for system of industrial robot. Fuzzy control has emerged as one of the most active and fruitful areas for research in the applications of fuzzy set theory, especially in the real of industrial processes. In this thesis, a self-organizing fuzzy controller for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied. A fuzzy logic composed of linguistic conditional statements is employed by defining the relations of input-output variable of the controller, In the synthesis of a FLC, one of the most difficult problems is the determination of linguistic control rules from the human operators. To overcome this difficult, SOFC is proposed for a hierarchical control structure consisting of basic level and high level that modify control rules. The proposed SOFC scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Performance of the SOFC is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for robot with eight joints.

  • This paper presents deterministic and adaptive control laws for two-link flexible arm. The flexible arm has considerable structural flexibility. Because of its flexbility, dynamic equations are very complex and difficult to get, dynamic equations for two-link flexible arm are derived from Bernoulli-Euler beam theory and Lagrangian equation. Using the fact that matrix is skew symmetric, controllers which have a simplified structure with less computational burden are proposed by using Lyapunov stability theory.

  • 이 연구는 특성화고 학생들에게 인벤터 소프트웨어를 사용하여 로봇 팔을 디자인하고 3D 프린터를 통해 제작하여 아두이노 마이컴으로 제어하는 융합 교육 방법을 소개하며, 학생들에게 실무 경험을 제공하고 다양한 학문 분야의 지식과 기술을 융합할 수 있는 기회를 제공할 수 있다. 학생들은 CAD 소프트웨어로 디자인을 시작하고, 3D 프린팅 기술을 통해 실제로 로봇 팔의 부품을 제작하며, 마지막으로 부품을 조립한 로봇 팔을 프로그래밍하여 제어하게 하였다. 이 융합교육에서 학생들의 문제 해결능력과 창의성을 키우고, 학습 동기를 높이는 데 도움이 되었고 이런 교육적시도가 실제 교육과정에 적용하기 위해서는 적절한 자원과 교사의 지속적인 관심과 지원이 필요하며, 이러한 연구는 향후 교육에서 적용 가능성을 탐색하기 위한 기초적인 연구로 간주된다.

  • 본 논문은 작업공간을 공유하는 두 대의 스카라 로봇으로 이루어진 Dual-Arm SCARA 로봇 시스템과 여러 대의 로봇을 제어할수 있는 로봇제어기로 동시에 독립적인 작업을 하는 경우 두 로봇의 동작에 따른 로봇 ARM의 모델링을 실시간으로 처리하여 상대 로봇과의 충돌이 예상되는지를 실시간 검색하여 두 로봇간의 충돌이 발생하지 않도록 하는 충돌검출 방법과, 두 대의 로봇이 충돌가능성으로 인하여 원하는 작업을 수행할수 없는 상태가 되는 경우 작업을 원활하게 이루어지도록 하는 충돌회피를 위한 로봇의 궤적을 생성하여 로봇을 이동시키고 다시 원래의 위치로 돌아 올수 있는 방법을 구현하였다.

  • The position control accuracy of a robot manipulator is significantly deteriorated when a long arm robot is operated at a high speed. This paper presents a very simple sliding mode control which eliminates multiple mode residual vibration in a 개bot manipulator. The neural network is used to avoid that sliding mode condition is deviated due to the change of system parameter and disturbance. This paper is suggested control system which designed by sliding mode controller using neural network. The effectiveness of proposed scheme is demonstrated through computer simulation.

  • This paper presents a force control of a arm of walking training robot. The current gait training apparatus in hospital are ineffective for the difficulty in keeping constant unloading level and constraining patients to walk freely. The proposed walking training robot is designed to unload body weight effectively during walking. The walking training robot consists of unloading manipulator and mobile platform. The manipulator driven with a electro-mechanical linear mechanism unloads body weight in various level. The mobile platform is wheel type, which allows to patients unconstrained walking. Unloading system with electro-mechanical linear mechanism has been developed, which has advantages such as low noise level, light weight, low manufacturing cost and low power consumption.
