In general, auto parts production assembly line is assembled and produced by automatic mounting by an automated robot. In such a production site, quality problems such as misalignment of parts (doors, trunks, roofs, etc.) to be assembled with the vehicle body or collision between assembly robots and components are often caused. In order to solve such a problem, the quality of parts is manually inspected by using mechanical jig devices outside the automated production line. Automotive inspection technology is the most commonly used field of vision, which includes surface inspection such as mounting hole spacing and defect detection, body panel dents and bends. It is used for guiding, providing location information to the robot controller to adjust the robot's path to improve process productivity and manufacturing flexibility. The most difficult weighing and measuring technology is to calibrate the surface analysis and position and characteristics between parts by storing images of the part to be measured that enters the camera's field of view mounted on the side or top of the part. The problem of the machine vision device applied to the automobile production line is that the lighting conditions inside the factory are severely changed due to various weather changes such as morning-evening, rainy days and sunny days through the exterior window of the assembly production plant. In addition, since the material of the vehicle body parts is a steel sheet, the reflection of light is very severe, which causes a problem in that the quality of the captured image is greatly changed even with a small light change. In this study, the distance between the car body and the door part and the door are acquired by the measuring device combining the laser slit light source and the LED pattern light source. The result is transferred to the joint robot for assembling parts at the optimum position between parts, and the assembly is done at the optimal position by changing the angle and step.

The ration of payload to weight of industrial robot amounts form 1:10 to 1:30. Compared with man who have a ration of 3:1, it is very low. One of the goals for the next generation of robots will be a ration. This might be possible only by developing lightweight robots. When two-link flexible arm is rotated about an joint axis, transverse vibration may occur. In this paper, vibration dynamics of flexible arm is modeled by using Bernoulli-Euler beam theory and Lagrange equation. Using the fact that matrix $\dot{D}-2C$ is skew symmetric, new controllers which have a simplified structure with less computational burden is proposed by using Lyapunov stability theory. We propose deterministic and adaptive control laws for two link flexible arm, and the validity of the proposed control scheme is shown in computer simulation for two-link flexible arm.
Industrial robots are powerful, extremely accurate multi-jointed systems, but they are heavy and highly rigid because of their mechanical structure and motorization. Therefore, sharing the robot working space with its environment is problematic. A novel pneumatic artificial muscle actuator (PAM actuator) has been regarded during the recent decades as an interesting alternative to hydraulic and electric actuators. Its main advantages are high strength and high power/weight ratio, low cost, compactness, ease of maintenance, cleanliness, readily available and cheap power source, inherent safety and mobility assistance to humans performing tasks. The PAM is undoubtedly the most promising artificial muscle for the actuation of new types of industrial robots such as Rubber Actuator and PAM manipulators. However, some limitations still exist, such as the air compressibility and the lack of damping ability of the actuator bring the dynamic delay of the pressure response and cause the oscillatory motion. In addition, the nonlinearities in the PAM manipulator still limit the controllability. Therefore, it is not easy to realize motion with high accuracy and high speed and with respect to various external inertia loads in order to realize a human-friendly therapy robot To overcome these problems a novel controller, which harmonizes a phase plane switching control method with conventional PID controller and the adaptabilities of neural network, is newly proposed. In order to realize satisfactory control performance a variable damper - Magneto-Rheological Brake (MRB) is equipped to the joint of the manipulator. Superb mixture of conventional PID controller and a phase plane switching control using neural network brings us a novel controller. This proposed controller is appropriate for a kind of plants with nonlinearity uncertainties and disturbances. The experiments were carried out in practical PAM manipulator and the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm was demonstrated through experiments, which had proved that the stability of the manipulator can be improved greatly in a high gain control by using MRB with phase plane switching control using neural network and without regard for the changes of external inertia loads.

The redundancy resolution of the seven DOF (Degree of Freedom) upper limb exoskeleton is key to the synchronous motion between a robot and a human user. According to the seven DOF human arm model, positioning and orientating the wrist can be completed by multiple arm configurations that results in the non-unique solution to the inverse kinematics. This paper presents analysis on the kinematic and dynamic aspect of the human arm movement and its effect on the redundancy resolution of the seven DOF human arm model. The redundancy of the arm is expressed mathematically by defining the swivel angle. The final form of swivel angle can be represented as a linear combination of two different swivel angles achieved by optimizing two cost functions based on kinematic and dynamic criteria. The kinematic criterion is to maximize the projection of the longest principal axis of the manipulability ellipsoid of the human arm on the vector connecting the wrist and the virtual target on the head region. The dynamic criterion is to minimize the mechanical work done in the joint space for each of two consecutive points along the task space trajectory. The contribution of each criterion on the redundancy was verified by the post processing of experimental data collected with a motion capture system. Results indicate that the bimodal redundancy resolution approach improved the accuracy of the predicted swivel angle. Statistical testing of the dynamic constraint contribution shows that under moderate speeds and no load, the dynamic component of the human arm is not dominant, and it is enough to resolve the redundancy without dynamic constraint for the realtime application.

To achieve synchronized motion between a wearable robot and a human user, the redundancy must be resolved in the same manner by both systems. According to the seven DOF (Degrees of Freedom) human arm model composed of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints, positioning and orientating the wrist in space is a task requiring only six DOFs. Due to this redundancy, a given task can be completed by multiple arm configurations, and thus there exists no unique mathematical solution to the inverse kinematics. This paper presents analysis on the kinematic and dynamic aspect of the human arm movement and their effect on the redundancy resolution of the human arm based on a seven DOF manipulator model. The redundancy of the arm is expressed mathematically by defining the swivel angle. The final form of swivel angle can be represented as a linear combination of two different swivel angles achieved by optimizing different cost functions based on kinematic and dynamic criteria. The kinematic criterion is to maximize the projection of the longest principal axis of the manipulability ellipsoid for the human arm on the vector connecting the wrist and the virtual target on the head region. The dynamic criterion is to minimize the mechanical work done in the joint space for each two consecutive points along the task space trajectory. As a first step, the redundancy based on the kinematic criterion will be thoroughly studied based on the motion capture data analysis. Experimental results indicate that by using the proposed redundancy resolution criterion in the kinematic level, error between the predicted and the actual swivel angle acquired from the motor control system is less than five degrees.

Maintenance works for current high-rise buildings significantly depend on human labor, unlike other construction processes that are gradually being automated. Herein, this paper proposes robotic building maintenance system using motion control, in specific, reducing a system jerk which is directly subjected to improve the process performance and economic feasibility. The sensor for detecting straight and curvature section of the building facade, moreover rail-joint segment can be detected and be utilized for reducing jerk of the system. Analysis of the proposed system error caused by excessive vibration, e.g. jerk motion is introduced. To enhance the stability and safety of the system, herein, the strategy is proposed for enhancing the performance of the system based on anti-jerk motion control algorithm which comes out increasing the stability and sustainability of the integrated system, as well.

As the need of electric motor is increased rapidly throughout our society, the various application fields are created and the service market called robot gets expanded as well as the existing industrial market. Out of those, the joint systems such as humanoid that is servo actuator for position control or all fields which require multi-degree of freedom (multi-DOF) require the development of innovative actuator. It is multi-DOF spherical motor that can replace the existing system in multi-DOF operating system. But, multi-DOF spherical motor that has been researched up to date is at the stage which is insufficient in performance or mechanical practicality yet. Thus, first of all the research results and limitation of the previously-researched guide frame-type spherical motors were analyzed and then the feature of double air-gap spherical motor which was devised to complement that was studied. The double air-gap multi-DOF spherical motor is very suitable spherical motor for system applying which requires the multi-DOF operation due to its simple structure that does not require other guide frame as well as performance improvement due to its special shape which has two air-gaps. So, the validity of the study was verified by designing and producing it with 3D-FEM through the exclusive jig for multi-DOF spherical motor.

In this paper, we present a new exoskeleton-type data glove that can sense the movement of the human finger and reflect the force to the finger. The data glove is designed on the basis of the skeletal structure of the human hand, and the finger module has 1 degree-of-freedom because it includes three four-bar mechanism joints in series and a wire-coupling mechanism. In addition, the transmission ratio of the finger module is maintained at 1:1.4:1 over the entire movement range, and hence, the module can perform both extension and flexion. In addition, to enable adduction/abduction motion of the human hand, a unique MCP joint is designed by using two universal joints. To validate the feasibility of the data glove, master-slave control experiments based on force-position control between the data glove and the robot hand are conducted.

This paper proposes a hand-eye laser range finder (LRF) based welding plane recognition method for autonomous robotic welding. The robot welding is the process of joining a metal piece and the welding plane along the welding path predefined by the shape of the metal piece. Thus, for successful robotic welding, the position and direction of the welding plane should be exactly detected. If the detected position and direction of the plane is not accurate, the autonomous robotic welding should fail. For precise recognition of the welding plane, a line on the plane is detected by the LRF. For obtaining the line on the plane, the Hough transform is applied to the obtained data from the LRF. Since the Hough transform is based on the voting method, the sensor noise can be reduced. Two lines on the plane are obtained before and after rotation of the robot joint, and then the direction of the plane is calculated by the cross product of two direction vectors of two lines. For verifying the feasibility of the proposed method, the simulation with the robot simulator, RoboticsLab developed by Simlab Co. Ltd., is carried out.

In this paper, we present an overview of the structure of a lab-built powered knee prosthesis and the control of it. We build a powered prosthesis prototype on the basis of previous researches and aim at obtaining the essential technology related with its control. We adopt the slider-crank mechanism with a DC motor as an actuator to manipulate the knee joint. We also build an embedded control system for the prosthesis with a 32-bit DSP controller as a main computation unit. We divide the gait phase into five stages and use a FSM (Finite State Machine) to generate a torque reference needed for each stage. We also propose to use a position-based impedance controller for driving the powered knee prosthesis stably. We perform some walking experiments at fixed speeds on a tread mill in order to show the feature of the built powered prosthesis. The experimental results show that our prosthesis has the ability to provide a functional gait that is representative of normal gait biomechanics.
