  • Presently, the exploration of an unknown environment is an important task for thee new generation of mobile service robots and mobile robots are navigated by means of a number of methods, using navigating systems such as the sonar-sensing system or the visual-sensing system. To fully utilize the strengths of both the sonar and visual sensing systems. This paper presents a technique for localization of a mobile robot using fusion data of multi-ultrasonic sensors and vision system. The mobile robot is designed for operating in a well-structured environment that can be represented by planes, edges, comers and cylinders in the view of structural features. In the case of ultrasonic sensors, these features have the range information in the form of the arc of a circle that is generally named as RCD(Region of Constant Depth). Localization is the continual provision of a knowledge of position which is deduced from it's a priori position estimation. The environment of a robot is modeled into a two dimensional grid map. we defines a vision-based environment recognition, phisically-based sonar sensor model and employs an extended Kalman filter to estimate position of the robot. The performance and simplicity of the approach is demonstrated with the results produced by sets of experiments using a mobile robot.

  • This paper describes the intelligent robot's hand with three finger sensors for a humanoid robot. In order to grasp an unknown object safely, the intelligent robot's hand should measure the mass of the object, and determine the grasping force using the mass, finally control the grasping force using the finger sensors and the controller. In this paper, the intelligent robot's hand for a humanoid robot was developed. First, the six-axis force/moment sensor was manufactured. second, three finger force sensors were designed and fabricated, third, the high-speed controller was manufactured using DSP(digital signal processor), finally, the characteristic test for determining a grasping force and for grasping an unknown object safely It is confirmed that the hand could grasp an unknown object safely.

  • This study proposes a new approach to Control the Orientation and position based on obstacle avoidance technology by multi sensors fusion and autonomous travelling control of mobile robot system for implimentation of Smart FA. The important focus is to control mobile robot based on by the multiple sensor module for autonomous travelling and obstacle avoidance of proposed mobile robot system, and the multiple sensor module is consit with sonar sensors, psd sensors, color recognition sensors, and position recognition sensors. Especially, it is proposed two points for the real time implementation of autonomous travelling control of mobile robot in limited manufacturing environments. One is on the development of the travelling trajectory control algorithm which obtain accurate and fast in considering any constraints. such as uncertain nonlinear dynamic effects. The other is on the real time implementation of obstacle avoidance and autonomous travelling control of mobile robot based on multiple sensors. The reliability of this study has been illustrated by the computer simulation and experiments for autonomous travelling control and obstacle avoidance.

  • Early in 21st century, researches about intelligent service robot that provide various services for a human out of the industrial robot only has simple pattern repetition. It concentrates in the research regarding the URC(Ubiquitous Robotic Companion) robot which connects the network in the intelligent service. This paper proposes the robot system based on network to guide a way. The robot has made by lego brick and used ultrasonic sensor, rotation sensor and RFID tag to recognize external environment. Also, it includes a PDA to process the data between robot and server. The network server transmits information to robot controller by bluetooth and it controls the course movement and evasion of the robot. In this research, the robot system based on network to guide a way is easy to expand service and is able to process a data in real time due to data processing in the server as a part of intelligent robot. And it can reduce the cost to build a robot thank to use cheaper sensor equipment.

  • Most autonomous mobile robots view only things in front of then, and as a result, they may collide with objects moving from the side or behind. To overcome this problem, an active omni-directional range sensor system has been built that can obtain an omni-directional depth map through the use of a laser conic plane and a conic mirror. In the navigation of the mobile robot, the proposed sensor system produces a laser conic plane by rotating the laser point source at high speed: this creates a two-dimensional depth map, in real time, once an image is captured. The results obtained from experiment show that the proposed sensor system is very efficient, and can be utilized for navigation of mobile robot in an unknown environment.

  • Most autonomous mobile robots view things only in front of them. As a result, they may collide against objects moving from the side or behind. To overcome the problem we have built an Active Omni-directional Range Sensor that can obtain omnidirectional depth data by a laser conic plane and a conic mirror. In the navigation of the mobile robot, the proposed sensor system makes a laser conic plane by rotating the laser point source at high speed and achieves two dimensional depth map, in real time, once an image capture. The experimental results show that the proposed sensor system provides the best potential for navigation of the mobile robot in uncertain environment.

  • The objective of this paper is to make a model-based map for the localization of an autonomous mobile robot(AMR) from ultrasonic sensor measurements, that are acquired when the AMR explores unknown indoors. First, the AMR navigates on unknown space by wall-following and gathers range data from the ultrasonic sensor. Then, the range data are converted to a wall-marked gird map, from which lines representing the walls are extracted using the Hough transform. This process is implemented on an AMR having an ultrasonic sensor, and a preliminary experimental result is presented.

  • The aim of this work for 5 years from 1994 is to develop a multi-fingered robot hand and its control system for grasp and manipulation of objects dexterously. Since the robot hand is still being developed, a commercialized robot hand from Barrett Company is utilized to implement a hand controller and control algorithm. For this, VME based motion control and interface boards are developed and multi-sensors such as encoder, force/torque sensor, dynamic sensor and artificial skin sensor are partly developed and employed for the grasping control algorithm. In oder to handle uncertainties such as mechanical idleness and backlash, a fuzzy rule based grasping algorithm is also considered and tested with the developed control system.

  • Patients have the paralysis of their wrists, and can't use of their wrists freely. But their wrists can be recovered by wrist-bending rehabilitation exercise. Professional rehabilitation therapeutists exercise the wrists of patients in hospital. But the wrists of patients have not exercised enough for the rehabilitation, because the therapeutists are much less than patients in number. Therefore, the wrist rehabilitation robot should be developed, and it have to measure the applied force to the patients' wrists for their safety. In this paper, the four-axis force/moment sensor was designed for the wrist rehabilitation robot. As a test results, the interference error of the four-axis force/moment sensor was less than 0.91%. It is thought that the sensor can be used to measure the applied force to the patients' wrists.

  • A global ultrasonic sensor system for self-localization of an indoor mobile robot is proposed in this paper. By the global ultrasonic sensor system, it is meant several ultrasonic transmitters fixed at some positions in the world coordinate and the receiver in the moving coordinate of a mobile robot. In order to achieve the synchronization between an ultrasonic transmitter and receiver and to avoid the crosstalk among the ultrasonic transmitters, simple radio frequency transmitters and receivers are adopted. Experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed ultrasonic sensor system.
