Stable and comfortable walking supports, which can reduce the body weight load partially, are needed for the recovering patients from neurologic disease and orthopedic procedures. In this paper, the development of a manipulator of rehabilitation robot for the patients with walking disabilities are studied. A force controller using pneumatic actuators is designed and implemented to the human friendly rehabilitation robot considering the safety of patients, reliability of the system, effectiveness of the unloading control and economic maintenance of the system. The mechanism of the unloading manipulator is devised to improve the sensibility for the movement of the patients such as direction and velocity. For the unloading force control, fuzzy control algorithm is adopted to reduce the partial body weight and suppress the unwanted fluctuation of the body weight load to the weak legs due to the unnatural working of the patients with walking disabilities. The effectiveness of the force control is experimentally demonstrated.

This paper proposes the method indirectly measuring the operating force of the end-effect tip of surgical robot instrument which conducts the surgical operation in the body on behalf of the surgeon's hand. Due to the size and safety obligation to the surgical robot instrument, it is difficult to measure the operation force of its tip like grasping force. However the instrument is driven by cable-pulley torque transmission mechanism and when some force is occurred at the tip, then the reaction force appears on the cable as additional tension. Based on this phenomenon, this paper proposes a method to estimate the operating force from measuring reaction force against the driving motor by using a loadcell. And it induces mathematical equation to calculate the force from loadcell by approaching the modulus of elasticity to high order polynomial. And this paper proves the validity of proposed mechanism by experimental test.
This study deals with the design of a spring backboned soft arm, which will be employed for generation of human gesture as an effective means of Human Robot interaction. The special features of the proposed mechanism are the light weight and the flexibility of the whole mechanism by using a spring backbone. Thus, even in the case of collision with human, this device is able to absorb the impact structurally. The kinematics and the design for the soft arm are introduced. The performance of this mechanism was shown through experiment emulating several human gestures expressing human emotion and some service contents. Finally, this soft arm was implemented as the wing mechanism of a penguin robot.

This paper focuses on the problem of local obstacle avoidance of mobile robots. To solve this problem, the safety direction section search algorithm is suggested. This concept is mainly composed with non-collision section and collision section from the detecting area of laser scanning sensor. Then, we will search for the most suitable direction in these sections. The proposed local motion planning method is simple and requires less computation than others. An environment model is developed using the vector space concept to determine robot motion direction taking the target direction, obstacle configuration, and robot trajectory into account. Since the motion command is obtained considering motion dynamics, it results in smooth and fast as well as safe movement. Using the mobile base, the proposed obstacle avoidance method is tested, especially in the environment with pillar, wall and some doors. Also, the proposed autonomous motion planning and control algorithm are tested extensively. The experimental results show the proposed method yields safe and stable robot motion through the motion speed is not so fast.
In this paper, we propose a novel approach to decentralized motion planning and conflict-resolution for multiple mobile agents working in an environment with unexpected moving obstacles. Our proposed motion planner has two characteristics. One is a real-time collision prognosis based on modified collision map. Collision map is a famous centralized motion planner with low computation load, and the collision prognosis hands over these characteristics. And the collision prognosis is based on current robots status, maximum robot speeds, maximum robot accelerations, and path information produced from off-line path planning procedure, so it is applicable to motion planner for multiple agents in a dynamic environment. The other characteristic is that motion controller architecture is based on potential field method, which is capable of integrating robot guidance to the goals with collision avoidance. For the architecture, we define virtual obstacles making delay time for collision avoidance from the real-time collision prognosis. Finally the results obtained from realistic simulation of a multi-robot environment with unknown moving obstacles demonstrate safety and efficiency of the proposed method.

In this paper, we propose the organization of a sensor system and user's intent detection algorithm for walking assist rehabilitation robots. The main purpose of walking assist rehabilitation robots is assisting SCI patients to walk in normal environment. To use walking assist rehabilitation robot in normal environment, it is needed to consider various factors about user's safety and detection of user's intent and so on. For these purposes, we have analyzed the use case of rehabilitation robots and organized the system of sensors for walking assist rehabilitation robots and finally, we have developed the algorithm which is used to detect user's intent for those. We applied our proposal method in the rehabilitation robot, ROBIN, and verified their effectiveness by normal, not patient.
In this study an automatic roiling-coli labeling system using robot vision system and peripheral mechanism is proposed and implemented, which instead of the manual labor to attach labels Rolling-coils in a steel miil. The binary image process for the image processing is performed with the threshold, and the contour line is converted to the binary gradient which detects the discontinuous variation of brightness of rolling-coils. The moment invariants algorithm proposed by Hu is used to make it easy to recognize even when the position of the center are different from the trained data. The position error compensation algorithm of six degrees of freedom industrial robot manipulator is also developed and the data of the position of the center rolling-coils, which is obtained by floor mount camera, are transfered by asynchronous communication method. Therefore even if the position of center is changed, robot moves to the position of center and performs the labeling work successfully. Therefore, this system can be improved the safety and efficiency.

A welding process of a lifting lug for lifting heavy objects is one of the important welding processes directly related to the safety in shipbuilding. Welding a lifting lug is done in the manually and takes about forty minutes. Working environment for the lifting lug welding is very poor due to an radiant heat and a harmful fume. The purpose of this study is to develop methods of multi-pass welding using the lifting lug welding robot system. This study shows robot welding methods to achieve proper corner, straight and connection welding and an effectiveness of application.
To keep enterprise's competitiveness on condition of the automatic manufacturing system such as FA, FMS and CIM, all the maintenance problems should be considered seriously in not only production and maintenance but also related industrial safety. As we analyze in the surveys for the maintenance management of domestic enterprises and the causes of Industrial accident, there will be necessity of drawing up countermeasures for prevention of industrial accidents and for ensuring expertise maintenance technologies. Based on these analyses, this study studied the safety information system, maintenance management information system, and the machinery condition diagnosis technique by using of the knowledge-based system under the internet environment. This web based knowledge-based diagnosis system can easily provide not only the knowledge of expert about deterioration phenomenon of industrial robot, but also the knowledge of relating safety and facility on everywhere, everytime. Therefore, when we use this system, it is expected to improve the efficiency of business processes in the production and safety.

Safety inspection of cable-supported bridge has increasingly attention as many cable-supported bridges are currently constructed/operated. Whilst cables as a main component in cable-supported bridge should be inspected regularly, traditional method (visual inspection) has limitation to check the condition of cables properly due to restricted factors. It is evidently necessary to develop cable-inspection robot to overcome this concern. In this respect, the main aim in this study is to manufacture the improved robot compared with the existing robot. The improved functions of the robot in this study were that the robot can be operated in large cable diameter (greater than 200 mm) and climbing ability of the robot increases. In addition, electro-magnetic sensor as a non-destructive method in the robot was added to detect damaged cables and performance of the sensor was evaluated in indoor and field experiments. Consequently, the robot was able to move on the cable with ~0.2m/s and to detect damaged cables using the sensor. It was also confirmed that performance of the robot in field test is similar to that in indoor test.
