This paper deals with a design of neural network control architectures for robot motion. Three types of control architectures are designed as follows : 1) a neural network control architecture which has the same characteristics as computed torque method 2) a neural network control architecture for compensating the control error on computed torque method with fixed feedback gain 3) neural network adaptive control architecture. Computer simulation of PUMA manipulator with 6 links is conducted for robot motion in order to examine the proposed neural network control architectures.

The study on social robots has been actively conducted in the robot research community. In the area of robot design, however, there are few studies regarding robot motions that are one of the methods for interaction between humans and robots. This is a preliminary study to find preferred human motions that can be applied to social robots. We conducted a two-phased empirical study about preferred human motions. In the first phase, four representative human motions, such as 'greeting', 'I don't know', 'positive answer', and 'giving', were captured through 28 body makers and video recording. 10 young and 6 elderly Singaporeans participated in the motion capture process. In the second phase, the communication efficiency, emotion, and satisfaction of the human motions recorded in the first phase were measured by a questionnaire and 31 young Koreans, 35 young Singaporeans participated to investigate cultural differences. We drew the conclusion that motions used in the same culture are efficient in communication and also give friendliness and satisfaction. In addition, regardless of user's culture, young people's motions and female motions were preferred in terms of communication efficiency, emotional aspect, satisfaction.

In this paper, we propose a new motion control technology to design robust control system of industrial robot. The system modeling of robotic manipulation tasks with constraints is presented, and the control architecture for unconstrained and constrained motion system with parametric uncertainties is synthesized. The optimal reference of robot manipulator is generated by the reference controller as a discrete state system and the control behavior of constrained system which has poor modeling information and time-invariant constraint function is improved motion control system is successfully evaluated by experiment to the desired tasks.

In order to control a dynamic gait of quadrupedal walking robot, the equations of motion of the whole mechanism are required. In this research, the equations of motion are formulated analytically using Kane's dynamic approach. As a dynamic gait model, a trot gait has been adopted. The degree of freedom of whole mechanism could be reduced to 7 by idealizing the kinematic feature of the trot gait. Using the equations of motion formulated, the results of the redundant-joint torque analysis and the simulation of dynamic walking motion are presented.
As human-friendly robot techniques improve, the concept of the wearability of robotic arms becomes important. A master arm that detects human arm motion and provides virtual forces to the operator is an embodied concept of a wearable robotic arm. In this study, we design a 7 DOF wearable robotic arm with high joint torques. An operator wearing this robotic arm can move around freely because this robotic arm was designed to have its fixed point at the shoulder part of the operator. The proposed robotic arm uses parallel mechanisms at the shoulder part and the wrist part on the model of the human muscular structure of an upper limb. To reduce the computational load in solving the forward kinematics and to prevent singularity motions of the parallel mechanism, yawing motion of the parallel mechanisms was separated using a slip ling mechanism. The total weight of the proposed robotic arm is about 4 kg. An experimental result of force tracking test for the pneumatic control system and an application example for VR robot are described to show the validity of the robot.

Small-scale ground mobile robots can access confined spaces where people or larger robots are unable. As the scale of the robot decreases, the relative size of the environment increases; therefore, maintaining the mobility of the small-scale robot is required. However, small-scale robots have limitations in using a large number of high-performance actuators, powerful computational devices, and a power source. Insects can effectively navigate various terrains in nature with their legged motion. Discrete contact with the ground and the foot enables creatures to traverse irregular surfaces. Inspired by the leg motion of the insect, researchers have developed small-scale robots and they implemented swing and lifting motions of the leg by designing leg linkages that can be adapted to small-scale robots. In this paper, we propose a leg linkage design for insect-inspired small-scale ground mobile robots. To use minimal actuation and reduce the control complexity, we designed a 1-DOF 3-dimensional leg linkage that can generate a proper leg trajectory using one continuous rotational input. We analyzed the kinematics of the proposed leg linkage to investigate the effect of link parameters on the foot trajectory.

This paper examines the suitability of using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools, ANSYS-CFX, as an initial analysis tool for predicting the drag and propulsion performance (thrust and torque) of a concept underwater vehicle design. In order to select an appropriate thruster that will achieve the required speed of the Underwater Disk Robot (UDR), the ANSYS-CFX tools were used to predict the drag force of the UDR. Vertical Planar Motion Mechanism (VPMM) test simulations (i.e. pure heaving and pure pitching motion) by CFD motion analysis were carried out with the CFD software. The CFD results reveal the distribution of hydrodynamic values (velocity, pressure, etc.) of the UDR for these motion studies. Finally, CFD bollard pull test simulations were performed and compared with the experimental bollard pull test results conducted in a model basin. The experimental results confirm the suitability of using the ANSYS-CFX tools for predicting the behavior of concept vehicles early on in their design process.

The pipes have been laid underground while the industry is developing. We have to take maintenance procedure when the pipes are cracked or ruptured. It is very difficult jop to check pipe's crack because the pipes are narrow and laid underground. Using in-pipe robot, we can check the conditions of inner section of pipes, therefore, we designed a crawler type robot to search cracked pipe. In this paper, we have made a special focus on the control of the robot using differential drive algorithm to move in curved section of pipes. The detailed design of the robot with experimental result show the effectiveness of the robot in pipe maintenance.
Generally, Industrial robots are often controlled using joint processors and treating each joint as an independent servo loop. This paper presents a system architecture for robot control designed for real-time control of motion and sensory processing utilizing general-purpose Personal Computer. And for easily use and system expendability, robot language is implemented with C-language as base language. Through this system user can easily update robot language by design of his own language primitives. This system also don't require another development tool and can be used as advanced algorithm simulator in robotics laboratories.
