In this study an automatic rolling-coil labeling system using robot vision system and peripheral mechanism is proposed and implemented, which instead of the manual labor to attach labels Rolling-coils in a steel mill. The binary image process for the image processing is performed with the threshold, and the contour line is converted to the binary gradient which detects the discontinuous variation of brightness of rolling-coils. The moments invariant algorithm proposed by Hu is used to make it easy to recognize even when the position of the center are different from the trained data. The position error compensation algorithm of six degrees of freedom industrial robot manipulator is also developed and the data of the position of the center rolling-coils, which is obtained by floor mount camera, are transferred by asynchronous communication method. Therefore, even if the position of center is changed, robot moves to the position of center and performs the labeling work successfully. Therefore, this system can be improved the safety and efficiency.
Accurate localization is very important to stable navigation of a mobile robot. This paper deals with local localization of a mobile robot especially for outdoor environments. The GPS information is the easiest way to obtain the outdoor position information. However, the GPS accuracy can be severely affected by environmental conditions. To deal with this problem, the GPS and wheel odometry can be combined using an EKF (Extended Kalman Filter). However, this is not enough for safe navigation of a mobile robot in outdoor environments. This paper proposes a novel method using lane features from the road image. The pose data of a mobile robot can be corrected by analyzing the detected lane features. This can improve the accuracy of the localization process substantially.

In this paper, the method for navigation and obstacle avoidance of an autonomous mobile robot is proposed. It is based on the fuzzy inference system which enables to deal with imprecise and uncertain information, and on the neural network which enables to learn input and output pattern data obtained from ultrasonic sensors. For autonomous navigation, the wall-following navigation utilizing input and output data by an expert's control action is constructed. An approach by the neural network is developed for the obstacle avoidance because of the redundant input data. For an autonomous navigation, the fuzzy control and the control of the neural network are integrated and its feasibility is demonstrated by means of experiment.
The robot calibration has greatly improved the absolute accuracy of the industrial robot. However, the accuracy of the relative positions of robotic tool-tip at work-points on a work-piece is only slightly corrected by the robot calibration since there has been no practical method to eliminate the elements of the setup position errors at a robotic workplace. A robotic workplace calibration is demonstrated in this paper to minimize the relative position errors between a robot tool-tip and the work-point on a work-piece. The existing teaching and playback method has been developed for the robotic workplace calibration. This paper uses the work-piece fixed in a robotic work-place as measurement equipment instead of a special robot measurement equipment for the robotic workplace calibration. The positive effect of the robotic workplace calibration is supported by the results of computer simulation on an ideal robotic workplace model and an experiment at the actual robotic workplace.
A network-based robot [1] is a robot that explores service servers in the network environment for analyzing sensor data and making decision. Since network-based robot architecture was proposed, it's possible to reduce costs of robots. We hope robots would be all around at home environment. Therefore, normal users who are not experts need to be able to control those robots by using easy commands. We developed a scripting language, named CCSLR, to help users and developers who control various robots in ubiquitous environment. We focused on how to design the common language for various robots and how to translate a CCSLR script into a sequence of low-level commands of the target robot. In this paper, we propose scripting methods, with three layers. The CCSLR system reads the profile information from the knowledge representation database. Users don't have to know all about kinematical and mechanical details of a robot. Then again, the CCSLR system will use the profile information to translate the script into separated executable library commands. The CCSLR system manages robot's changing state every time a robot executes a command.
Although human-sized bipedal humanoid robots have been developed as the ideal form of human-friendly robots, studies of humanoid robots from the user perspective and of actual interaction between humanoid robots and the public in daily environments are few. This paper presents a long-term public demonstration that encouraged interaction between a humanoid robot and unspecified individuals. We have collected a significant amount of subjective evaluation data from the public by performing a storytelling demonstration that enhanced people's empathy towards the robot. The evaluation model consists of the robot's human friendliness, which involves its impression on humans, interaction with humans, and imitation of human motions and the robot's human appearance which involves gender, age, height, and body type. This study shows that there is no significant difference in human-friendliness between gender groups (male and female), while there is a significant difference between age groups (children and adults). In human appearance, it appears that there is no significant difference between either gender groups or age groups, except for the case of the robot's height.
A sensor fusion scheme for mobile robot environment recognition that incorporates range data and contour data is proposed. Ultrasonic sensor provides coarse spatial description but guarantees open space with no obstacle within sonic cone with relatively high belief. Laser structured light system provides detailed contour description of environment but prone to light noise and is easily affected by surface reflectivity. Overall fusion process is composed of two stages: Noise elimination and belief updates. Dempster Shafer´s evidential reasoning is applied at each stage. Open space estimation from sonar range measurements brings elimination of noisy lines from laser sensor. Comparing actual sonar data to the simulated sonar data enables ...
Recently, there are lots of concerning on the control of multi-agent control system and mixed reality integrating real and virtual environments. In this paper, an integrated agent control system based on mixed reality and mobile environment is proposed. The system consists of a manager, agents, a mapping module, a geographic information module, a WAP server, and a mobile manager. The manager has Hybrid Device Manager(HDM) working for revising images and position data of the agents to display that at the 3D virtual and mobile environments respectively. Especially, the images of the agent is translated to LBM format and displayed on the mobile phone, and the current position of the agent is displayed on the display screen, so that a user are able to control the agent when he is moving. Experimental results shows the proposed system lets us control the agents conveniently at a computer and a mobile phone.

Nowadays multiple control methods are used in robot control systems. A model, predictor or error estimator is often used as feedback controller to control a robot. While robots have become more and more intensive with algorithms capable to acquiring independent knowledge from raw data. This paper represents experimental results of real time machine learning control that does not require explicit knowledge about the plant. The controller can be applied on a broad range of tasks with different dynamic characteristics. We tested our controller on the balancing problem of a single propeller pendulum. Experimental results show that the use of a supervised machine learning algorithm in a single propeller pendulum allows the stable swing of a given angle.
This paper reports on a realtime OS based master-slave configuration robot control system for laparoscopic surgery robot which enables telesurgery and overcomes shortcomings with conventional laparoscopic surgery. Surgery robot system requires control system that can process large volume information such as medical image data and video signal from endoscope in real-time manner, as well as precisely control the robot with high reliability. To meet the complex requirements, the use of high-level real-time OS (Operating System) in surgery robot controller is a must, which is as common as in many of modem robot controllers that adopt real-time OS as a base system software on which specific functional modules are implemened for more reliable and stable system. The control system consists of joint controllers, host controllers, and user interface units. The robot features a compact slave robot with 5 DOF (Degree-Of-Freedom) expanding the workspace of each tool and increasing the number of tools operating simultaneously. Each master, slave and Gill (Graphical User Interface) host runs a dedicated RTOS (Real-time OS), RTLinux-Pro (FSMLabs Inc., U.S.A.) on which functional modules such as motion control, communication, video signal integration and etc, are implemented, and all the hosts are in a gigabit Ethernet network for inter-host communication. Each master and slave controller set has a dedicated CAN (Controller Area Network) channel for control and monitoring signal communication with the joint controllers. Total 4 pairs of the master/slave manipulators as current are controlled by one host controller. The system showed satisfactory performance in both position control precision and master-slave motion synchronization in both bench test and animal experiment, and is now under further development for better safety and control fidelity for clinically applicable prototype.
