  • Full scale durability test in the laboratory is an essential of any fatigue life evaluation of components or structures of the automotive vehicle. Component testing is particularly important in today's highly competitive industries where the design to reduce weight and production costs must be balanced with the necessity to avoid expensive service failure. Generally, Hydraulic road simulator is used to carry out the fatigue test and the vibration test. In this paper, the algorithm and software to realize the real road profile are developed. The operation software for simultaneously controlled multi-axial simulator is developed and the input and output data are displayed window based PC controller in real time. The software to generate the real road profile are developed. This paper developed a road profile reappearance software and simultaneously apply 3-axial actuator to white noise, so we verified the propriety of reappearance software through accomplishes an real test.

  • PURPOSES: The purpose of this paper is to estimate expected effects on traffic operational and economic aspects of 2+1 roads application in Korea. METHODS : Micro simulation study using VISSIM 5.0 was used to analyze the operation efficiency of 2+1 roads compared to two-lane highways and four-lane highways. Some scenarios for various traffic volumes were set up in order to analyze the effect of 2+1 roads under various traffic situations. Also imaginary road networks were set up for each type of roads. The MOEs to measure the operation efficiency were selected with average travel speed and delay. For analyzing economic effect of 2+1 roads, construction cost of a specific imaginary 2+1 road was compared to construction cost of a four-lane highway with same conditions. RESULTS: The results of study show that a 2+1 road is more effective with 19 percents higher average travel speed and 39 percents lower average delay than a two-lane highway. In the economic analysis, construction costs to construct a 2+1 road are saved as approximately 26.4~40.7 percents when compared to construction of four-lane highway. CONCLUSIONS: It can be concluded that 2+1 roads can improve the traffic operational level of service for two-lane highways and 2+1 roads can be applied as an effective design alternative for higher-volume two-lane highways in Korea.

  • In the commercialization stage of level 4 or higher autonomous driving, the need for new legal system related to drive safely has increased in order to meet the improved level of technological development. Especially human drivers should not be legally accountable for road safety in the era of autonomous vehicles and thus safety standards for operation of autonomous vehicles are significant. To address this issue, the German Road Traffic Act was revised in 2021, adding provisions corresponding to the commercialization of self-driving vehicle of level 4 and in the similar context the Japanese Road Traffic Ac was amended in 2022. This Article draws implications for legislative discussions on driving-related responsibilities of driverless autonomous vehicle to ensure driving safety in Korea through recent amendments in Germany and Japan.

The results of the above experiment show that the real road profiles are realized well after 10th iteration.

  • The current road traffic signal controller developed in the 1990s has limitations in flexibility and scalability due to power supply problems, various communication methods, and hierarchical black box structures for various equipment and devices installed to improve traffic safety for road users and autonomous cooperative driving. In this paper, we designed a road traffic safety facilities equipment and devices integrated management system that can cope with the rapidly changing future traffic environment by solving the using direct current(DC) and power supply problem through the power over ethernet(PoE) technology and centralized data-driven control through message broker technology. In addition, a data-driven real-time control method for road traffic safety facilities equipment and devices operating based on time series data was implemented and verified.

  • This study carries out to evaluate the value of introducing the road guard system that merges the function of a fence that induces wild animals and a grass inhibitor to an existing guard rail that acts as road safety facilities. For this purpose, we surveyed that road user's willingness-to-pay and recognition characteristics for road safety facilities using contingent valuation Method. By establishing a willingness-to-pay assumption model, the average willingness-to-pay was 5,018 won, which was higher than the average proposed amount of 3,883 won and shows that the road guard system is an appropriate alternative facility to increase road safety and reduce road kills. Therefore, it would be prudent to review the introduction of the road guard system to newly constructed roads or current roads in operation as a way of reducing road kills. In the future, the road guard system must be tested in areas that are highly susceptible to road kills after consulting with the relevant highway managing authorities to conduct a comparison study on the before and after installation effect of the road guard system to investigate its operation and the current status of road kills to clearly identify its effectiveness.

  • Recently, constructing and complementing the road network database are a main key in all social operation in our life. However it needs high expenses for constructing and complementing the data, and relies on many people for finishing the tasks. This study propose a novel method to extract urban road networks from 3-D LiDAR data automatically. This method integrates height, reflectance, and clustered road point information. Geometric information of general roads is also applied to cluster road points group correctly. The proposed method has been tested on various urban areas which contain complicated road networks. The results conclude that the integration of height, reflectance, and geometric information worked reliably to cluster road points.

  • Because the cost of road management is increasing proportional to road construction, there are needs to build general and systematic road management system. To solving such problems, Ministry of Construction and Transportation started research and development of Highway Management System(HMS), and established a foundation for systematic road management system. But, the implementation of HMS has some limitations because it is just converting roads of physical space to roads of electronic space and managing roads of electronic space. Although HMS offers many conveniences compared to old system which was based hard-copy and paper maps or unit operations, it can not overcome the problem of inefficency of road management due to the separation of operation between outer field and inner office. Therefore, to overcome such inefficency, this study focused on Road Disaster Management System development based on Ubiquotous.

  • Running tests on roads were conducted to clarify the influences of road infrastructure, traffic condition and vehicle's emission level to the amount of emission at local roadsides, and to reveal the operation patterns which can reduce the emission peaks. NOx emission peaks of two light duty freight diesel vehicles which have different emission levels were evaluated by using an on-board measurement system. Tests were carried out with various payload conditions and road conditions. As a result many NOx emission peaks were observed when the vehicles were starting or accelerating at intersections. The test vehicle which has higher emission level caused higher frequency and level of NOx emission peaks. Shifting up at lower engine speed in combination with lower acceleration brought out not only reduction of NOx emission peaks level but also of $CO_2$ mass emission.

  • Since there is no clear installation criteria on minimum spacing between signalized intersection and minor road, many problems have occurred in terms of traffic operation and safety. Even though many studies about entrance/exit intersection have been done in operational aspects, there is no specific and detailed research between the signalized intersection and minor road by now. Thus, this research suggests the optimal spacing between signalized intersection and minor road considering traffic operation and safety. Also, survey on vehicle behavior was conducted in this research. In conclusion, by suggesting the required minimum spacing between signalized intersection and minor road, it can be contribute in establishing and operating the installation criteria between signalized intersection and minor road.
