Simplified analysis method for anti-overturning of single-column pier girder bridge

  • The single-column pier girder bridge, due to its low engineering cost, small footprint, and aesthetic appearance, is extensively employed in urban viaducts and interchange ramps. However, its structural design makes it susceptible to eccentric loads, flexural-torsional coupling effects, and centrifugal forces, among others. To evaluate its anti-overturning performance reasonably, it is crucial to determine the reaction force of the support for the single-column pier girder bridge. However, due to the interaction between vehicle and bridge and the complexity of vibration modes, it poses a significant challenge to analyze the theory or finite element method of single-column pier girder bridges. The unit load bearing reaction coefficient method is proposed in this study to facilitate the static analysis. Numerous parameter analyses have been conducted to account for the dynamic amplification effect. The results of these analyses reveal that the dynamic amplification factor is independent of road surface roughness but is influenced by factors such as the position of the support. Based on parameter analysis, the formula of the dynamic amplification factor is derived by fitting.

포장 프로파일이 포장 피로수명에 미치는 영향 분석 (Effect of Surface Profiles on Pavement Fatigue Life)

  • 본 논문에서는 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장의 표층 프로파일과 차량특성인 차량속도와 현가장치를 다르게 하여 트럭 시뮬레이션 프로그램을 통한 동적하중을 분석하였다. 다양한 포장 상태의 프로파일을 입력하여 동적하중을 분석하였으며 프로파일, 차량의 현가장치, 차량속도에 따른 동적하중 변화를 분석하였다. 포장 거칠기가 증가할수록 동적하중이 증가하였으며, 속도가 증가할 수 록 동일한 포장 거칠기 하에서 동적하중이 증가하였다. Walking beam 현가장치가 Air spring 현가장치에 비해 더 큰 동적하중을 보였다. 동적하중 공분산을 이용하여 포장파손 지수를 결정하였으며, 동적하중 공분산과 신뢰도, 아스팔트 혼합물의 파괴매개변수가 증가할 수록 포장파손지수도 증가하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 이용하여 차량속도와 표층 아스팔트 혼합물 파괴특성에 근거한 포장 평탄성 규정에 이용할 수 있으며, 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장 시공 후 포장 평탄성에 근거한 지불규정에 효과적으로 사용할 수 있다고 판단된다.

초박층 덧씌우기용 아크릴 폴리머 콘크리트의 특성 연구 (Characterization of Acryl Polymer Concretes for Ultra Thin Overlays)

  • 본 연구는 콘크리트 슬래브 및 포장도로에 덧씌우기 포장으로 개발된 아크릴 폴리머 콘크리트의 물리 역학적 특성을 평가하기 위하여 수행되었다. 점도시험, 흐름시험, 압축강도시험, 휨 강도시험, 인장강도시험, 선 수축시험, 열팽창계수시험 및 온도변화에 대한 부착성 등 다양한 실내 시험을 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 아크릴 폴리머 콘크리트의 실내시험 결과 ACI에서 제시하는 모든 기준을 만족하는 것으로 평가되었다. 아크릴 폴리머 콘크리트의 공용성을 평가하기 위해 추가적으로 포장가속시험(APT)을 수행하였으나 등가 단축하중을 15,909,939회를 적용하는 동안 심각한 파손을 확인할 수 없었다. 마지막으로 현장 적용성을 평가하기 위하여 열화현상이 진행된 콘크리트 도로에 10mm의 폴리머 콘크리트 덧씌우기를 적용하였다. 현장 적용 후 미끄럼 저항성, 소음 및 평탄성을 측정한 결과 미끄럼 저항성 및 소음도는 상당히 개선되었으나 평탄성 측정치는 다소 증가하였다. 추후 현장에 적용된 아크릴 폴리머 콘크리트의 정기적인 조사를 통하여 장기 공용성 평가를 수행할 예정이다.

자치구 포장상태평가등급 기준 개선 및 포장상태 예측지수 개발 (Development of Borough Road Pavement Condition Evaluation Criteria and Prediction Index)

  • OBJECTIVES : This study develops an evaluation method, which is useful to inspect pavement condition of specific boroughs. This is because pavement condition is broadly divided into five grades via visual inspection, which does not consider the types of deteriorations, and is decided by an investigator having a subjective viewpoint. This visual inspection method is not a satisfactory method for accurate maintenance when various deteriorations occur. METHODS : The performance model considers several factors such as crack, rutting, and IRI. This method is also modified from borough SPI based on SPI (Seoul Pavement Index). Considering limited budget of borough, PI (prediction index) is suggested, which is related to the grade of pavement condition evaluation and type of materials. Practical correlation review is also conducted with statistical verification by using the Monte Carlo simulation. RESULTS : The results of the study show that modified criteria are reasonable. First, the comparison between the visual inspection result and the SPI result indicates that the R-square value is sufficiently high. Second, through the common section, each evaluation method could be compared, and the result shows considerable similarity, which increases when the range is modified. Finally, PI for predicting remaining life and the random number SPI have common parts, which means that each indicator would be adequate to be used as an evaluation method. CONCLUSIONS : Comparison and analysis results show that the developed evaluation method is reasonable for specific boroughs where financial support is inadequate for the evaluation process by using the newer equipment. Moreover, for more accurate evaluation method, previous visual inspection data should be utilized, and the database of inspection equipment have to be collected.

콘크리트 거친면 마무리처리에 따른 공용성 평가 (Performance Evaluation of Surface Textures on Concrete Pavement)

  • 본 연구는 포장 거친면 마무리 방법에 따른 공용성 평가를 실시하여 국내에 최적의 거친면 마무리 공법을 제안하는 데 목적이 있다. 소음 측정 결과 일정간격 18mm 종방향 타이닝이 다른 비교구간보다 약 2$\sim$3dB(A) 소음 감소효과가 있다. 일정간격 18mm 종방향 타이닝과 26mm 종방향 타이닝을 비교한 결과 26mm 종방향 타이닝에서 약 2$\sim$3dB(A)증가 하였다. 미끄럼 저항성 측정결과는 SN40을 기준으로 했을 경우 전 구간에 대해 양호한 결과를 얻을 수 있었고, 평탄성 측정결과 AASHTO 기준인 PrI 16cm/km 범위 내에 전 구간이 포함되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고, 실제 운전자를 대상으로한 설문조사에서는 종방향타이닝의 주행감이 가장 좋은 것으로 분석되었다. 육안관측으로 배수성 측정결과 일정간격 26mm 종방향 타이닝과 일반구간(일정간격 25mm 횡방향 타이닝)에서 가장 우수한 배수성을 보였다. 반면에 18mm 종방향 타이닝과 임의간격 횡방향에서는 배수능력이 저하되었다. Ranking method를 적용하여 분석한 결과 18mm 종방향 타이닝이 가장 좋은 공법으로 선정되었고, 다음으로 26mm 종방향 타이닝, 임의간격 횡방향, 횡방향 쓸기순으로 선정되었다.

Vehicle-bridge coupling vibration analysis based fatigue reliability prediction of prestressed concrete highway bridges

  • The extensive use of prestressed reinforced concrete (PSC) highway bridges in marine environment drastically increases the sensitivity to both fatigue-and corrosion-induced damage of their critical structural components during their service lives. Within this scenario, an integrated method that is capable of evaluating the fatigue reliability, identifying a condition-based maintenance, and predicting the remaining service life of its critical components is therefore needed. To accomplish this goal, a procedure for fatigue reliability prediction of PSC highway bridges is proposed in the present study. Vehicle-bridge coupling vibration analysis is performed for obtaining the equivalent moment ranges of critical section of bridges under typical fatigue truck models. Three-dimensional nonlinear mathematical models of fatigue trucks are simplified as an eleven-degree-of-freedom system. Road surface roughness is simulated as zero-mean stationary Gaussian random processes using the trigonometric series method. The time-dependent stress-concentration factors of reinforcing bars and prestressing tendons are accounted for more accurate stress ranges determination. The limit state functions are constructed according to the Miner's linear damage rule, the time-dependent S-N curves of prestressing tendons and the site-specific stress cycle prediction. The effectiveness of the methodology framework is demonstrated to a T-type simple supported multi-girder bridge for fatigue reliability evaluation.

  • Single point diamond turning technique for optical crystals is studied in this paper. The main factors which are influential the machined surface quality are discovered and regularities of machining process are drawn. Optical crystals have found more and more important applications in the field of modern optics. Optical crystals are mostly brittle materials of poor machinability. The traditional machining method is polishing which has many shortcomings such as low production efficiency, poor ability to be automatically controlled and edge effect of the workpiece. The purpose of our research is to find the optimal machining conditions for ductile cutting of optical crystals and to apply the SPDT technique to the manufacturing of ultra precision optical components of brittle material(Ge). Many technical challenges are being tried for the large space infrared telescope, which is one of the major objectives of the National Strategic Technology Road Map (NSTRM).

유니버셜 조인트의 형상 변화에 따른 내구성 해석 (Durability Analysis due to the Shape Change of Universal Joint)

  • According to the axial torsion applied at power transmission and the vibration from the roughness of road surface, this paper analyzes the stresses on two kinds of universal joint model. As stress and deformation at model 2 becomes smaller than model 1 on structural analysis, model 2 is more stabilized than model 1. The natural frequencies at model 1 and 2 are 7,040 and 9,540 Hz respectively. As the natural frequency range of model 2 becomes higher than model 1, model 2 becomes safer than model 1. Critical frequencies at these models are calculated through harmonic response analyses. On critical frequencies at model 1 and 2, the stress at model 2 becomes lower than 2 times as much as model 1 and the deformation at model 2 becomes lower than 4 times as much as model 1. Model 2 on durability is thought to become better than model 1. This study result is applied with the design of safe universal joint and it can be useful to improve the durability by predicting prevention against the deformation due to its vibration.

Seismic response of a highway bridge in case of vehicle-bridge dynamic interaction

  • The vehicle-bridge interaction (VBI) analysis might be cumbersome and computationally expensive in bridge engineering due to the necessity of solving large number of coupled system of equations. However, VBI analysis can provide valuable insights into the dynamic behavior of highway bridges under specific loading conditions. Hence, this paper presents a numerical study on the dynamic behavior of a conventional highway bridge under strong near-field and far-field earthquake motions considering the VBI effects. A recursive substructuring method, which enables solving bridge and vehicle equations of motion separately and suitable to be adapted to general purpose finite element softwares, was used. A thorough analysis that provides valuable information about the effect of various traffic conditions, vehicle velocity, road roughness and effect of soil conditions under far-field and near-field strong earthquake motions has been presented. A real-life concrete highway bridge was chosen for numerical demonstrations. In addition, sprung mass models of vehicles consist of conventional truck and car models were created using physical and dynamic properties adopted from literature. Various scenarios, of which the results may help to highlight the different aspects of the dynamic response of concrete highway bridges under strong earthquakes, have been considered.

최소단면 보수지역의 평탄성 평가 (Evaluation of Pavement Smoothness on Optimized Rehabilitated Section)

  • 본 논문에서는 최소단면 보수가 완료된 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장의 평탄성 평가를 위하여 경량 프로파일러를 이용하여 측정하였으며 평탄성 분석을 실시하였다. 측정 프로파일러의 정확도를 검토하기 위하여 2회 측정한 프로파일을 이용하여 반복성(repeatability) 검증을 수행하였다. Cross-Corelation 함수를 이용하여 측정치간의 일치를 검증하였다. 최소단면 보수가 이루어진 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장 부분과 기존 포장의 평탄성을 국제평탄성지수와 PrI 지수를 비교 분석하였으며, 최소단면 보수가 이루어진 차선의 평탄성이 대체적으로 좋지 않았다. 향후 최소단면 보수 지역의 평탄성 평가에 대한 기초자료로 사용할 수 있다고 판단된다.
