기상조건 변화에 따른 노면표시 비드의 최적 배합비율 산정 (Optimal Mixtures of Roadway Pavement Marking Beads Under Various Weather Conditions)

  • 노면표시에 도포된 굴절률 1.5 유리알은 야간 우천 시 효과적인 재귀반사를 수행하지 못하여 교통안전에 심각한 문제를 초래하고 있다. 이를 극복하기 위해 습윤상태에서 효과적 재귀반사를 수행하는 굴절률 2.4인 우천형 bead와 건조 시 최적의 재귀반사를 수행해 내는 굴절률 1.9 bead를 혼합한다. 그러나 고성능의 굴절률 1.9와 2.4 bead는 기존 1.5 유리알에 비해 상당한 고가이므로 전량 사용하기에는 상당한 비용이 소요된다. 따라서 현장 설치 시에는 서로 혼합하여 사용하는 것이 바람직하며, 최적 성능과 소요 비용을 고려한 적정 배합비율을 찾아내는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 비율로 혼합된 bead를 국내 고속도로의 길가장자리선에 설치하였을 때 발생되는 각각의 비용 및 편익에 따른 경제성 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 수행결과, 다양한 강수량 변화에도 높은 시인성을 유지하는 대안은 굴절률 2.4가 100% 구성된 차선으로 나타났으며, 경제성이 가장 높게 확보되는 대안은 굴절률 1.5가 80%, 2.4가 20%로 구성된 차선으로 B/C는 약 1.92 수준으로 도출되어 국내 고속도로 길가장자리선의 적용 시 가장 효과적인 대안인 것으로 확인되었다. 아울러 연구의 한계와 몇몇 장래 연구과제가 토의되었다.

  • 항공사진을 이용하여 도로의 3차원 위치정보를 취득하기 위해서는 도로지역에 대한 정확한 매칭 기법이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 도로 노면표식의 형상정보와 공간관계를 이용하여 도로 노면표식을 추출하고, 추출된 노면표식의 공간관계를 비교하여 입체항공영상에서 매칭을 수행하는 즉, 관계형 매칭 기법을 제안하였다. 관계형 매칭은 개체에 대한 고수준의 묘사와 부정확한 매칭에 대한 해결책이 요구되어 진다. 또한 최종 결과물에 대한 충분한 검증을 필요로 한다. 본 연구에서는 도로 노면표식의 형상정보를 계산하여 개체를 묘사하였고, 부정확한 매칭에 대한 해결책을 제안하였으며, 도로지역이 평평하다는 성질을 이용하여 최종결과에 대한 검증을 수행하였다. 본 연구의 정확도는 시각적인 평가와 수치사진 측량시스템을 통해 얻은 참고자료와의 비교를 통해 수행하였다.

사고위험성이 높은 운전자에 대한 노면표시 효과 연구 (The Effects of Pavement Markings on High-risk Drivers' Speeds)

  • PURPOSES: Speeding is often the primary contributor to fatal crashes. Surprisingly, driving behaviors are indirectly affected by personal factors such as law-abidance, risk sensitivity, and situational adaptability. This research aims to verify the effectiveness of pavement markings at reducing the speeds of high-risk drivers. The purpose of this study is to establish how drivers (including law-abiding or law-breaking, high-risk or low-risk) react to different pavement markings in a driving simulator. METHODS: The five different pavement markings were selected from markings used in other nations. The forty-two drivers were then surveyed, via questionnaires, and placed into the corresponding groups. Finally, statistical analysis was conducted to determine the extent of speed reduction for each pavement marking. RESULTS: Higher speeds were linked to the high-risk drivers. Furthermore, after analysis of the mean difference of average speeds by pavement marking, it was determined that Dragon's Teeth had the greatest speed reducing effect on these drivers. CONCLUSIONS: Perceptual countermeasures are unlikely to strongly affect high-risk drivers' perception of speed on the curves. This statistically demonstrates that Dragon's Teeth have a subtle effect on reducing speeds in the driving simulator. This study's significance lies in the improved understanding of high-risk drivers in terms of road facilities. It approaches the effects of various patterns of pavement markings for high-risk drivers.

Urban Road Extraction from Aerial Photo by Linking Method

  • We have seen rapid changes in road systems and networks in urban areas due to fast urbanization and increased traffic demands. As a result, many researchers have put greater importance on extraction, correction and updating of information about road systems. Also, by using the various data on road systems and its condition, we can manage our road more efficiently and economically. Furthermore, such information can be used as input for digital map and GIS analysis. In this research, we used a high resolution aerial photo of the roads in Seongnam area. First, we applied the top-hat filter to the area of interest so that the road markings could be extracted in an efficient manner. The lane separation lines were selected, considering the shape similarity between the selected lane separation line and reference data. Next, we extracted the roads in the urban area using the aforementioned road marking. Using this technique, we could easily extract roads in urban area in semi-automatic way.

도로의 야간 교통사고 저감을 위한 야광형 포장노면표시 기술개발의 적용성 연구 (A Study on the Application of Glow Line Marking Technology Development for Reducing Traffic Accidents at Nighttime)

  • PURPOSES : This study suggests the application of glow line marking technology for reducing traffic accidents at nighttime. METHODS : In this study, using a statistical analysis, we analyzed the characteristics of traffic accidents occurring at nighttime. Next, the strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat (SWOT) factors were derived based on a current-status analysis of glow line marking technology and road environments. An SO strategy, ST strategy, WO strategy, and WT strategy were established in accordance with the four SWOT factors. RESULTS : This study suggests that the following strategies should be promoted to apply glow line marking technology to a road environment: 1) an activation strategy for the technological development of glow line markings for a new paradigm in reducing traffic accidents, 2) a benefit enhancement strategy applying glow line marking technology in places where nighttime traffic accidents frequently occur, 3) a strategy for the expansion of glow line marking by replacing streetlights, and 4) a strategy for enhancing road applications through the development of various line marking methods in consideration of both performance and costs. CONCLUSIONS : The application of glow line markings in a road environment can contribute to a reduction of traffic accidents at nighttime, and aid energy savings from the replacement of streetlights.

컴퓨터 기반 실내실험을 통한 고속도로 차선의 적정 규격 (Appropriate Dimension of Freeway Lane Marking using Computer Based Laboratory Experiment)

  • PURPOSES : It is well known that experts determined the current standard dimensions of freeway lane markings. However, rigorous engineering rationale could be insufficient regarding whether or not the standard dimensions account for how visible the markings are to the driver. In this study, we seek to optimize the dimensions of freeway lane markings to improve their visibility to drivers. METHODS : The study was conducted as follows. First, alternative lane marking dimensions were selected which could be installed in a test construction site. Second, a video recording was made while driving on the test construction site. Third, subjects were shown the recorded video and then instructed to indicate their preference from among the various lane markings. Lastly, t-tests were applied to assess the statistical significance of differences in the preferences expressed. RESULTS : According to the t-test results, there was no significant difference in the preferences expressed regarding the lane marking widths. However, with regard to the dimensions of freeway lane marking, which represents line marking lengths, gap lengths, and widths of marking, the subjects expressed a preference for specific dimensions such as 6 m:12 m,13 cm, 8 m:12 m,10 cm and 6 m:12 m,10 cm. CONCLUSIONS : In considering the dimensions of freeway lane markings and their relation to visibility by the driver, it was found that dimensions such as 6 m:12 m,13 cm, 8 m:12 m,10 cm and 6 m:12 m,10 cm.

재귀반사도 개선을 위한 MMA계 열경화성 차선도료의 설계 (Design of MMA-Type Thermosetting Road Markings to Improve Reflectivity)

  • 본 연구에서는 차선도료로 MMA (methyl metacrylate) 수지계 열경화성 수지를 선정하여 차선의 내구성능과 재귀반사성능을 개선할 수 있는 최적의 열경화성 차선도료를 설계하고자 하였다. 특히 현장 적용성을 향상시키기 위하여 차선도료의 경화시간을 8 min으로 단축하기 위해 주재의 구성요소를 설계하였다. 실험 결과 MMA 모노머($Tg=105^{\circ}C$) 15.6 wt%에 PMMA (ploymethyl metacrylate, MW = 70,000, $Tg=60^{\circ}C$) 6.0 wt%와 TMPTA (trimethylolpropane triacrylate, MW = 338, $Tg=27^{\circ}C$) 1.2 wt%를 배합한 TSRM-6가 부착강도 등 도료물성이 우수하여 최적 배합비율로 결정하였다. 열경화성 차선도료의 도장조건은 분사 전 반드시 균일한 혼합이 이루어져야 하며 최적 설계된 TSRM-6에 우천용 유리알을 사용한 경우 마모시험 횟수 20만 회에서 야간재귀반사성능계수는 $431mcd{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}lux^{-1}$ (건조 조건), $354mcd{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}lux^{-1}$ (젖은 조건), $172mcd{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}lux^{-1}$ (비오는 조건)으로 우수한 성능을 나타내었다.

  • An effective approach to lane detection in driver assistance system (DAS) is proposed, based on the decomposition of lane markings. The properties of the decomposed lane markings are discussed, and analyses on lane curvature are given. The current lane on road is detected quickly, the neighboring lane regions are also extracted for lane planning of the vehicle, and the parameters of lane structure are accurately estimated.
