A Study on Comparison of Road Surface Images to Provide Information on Specific Road Conditions (도로 상태 정보 안내를 위한 도로표면 영상 비교에 관한 연구)

  • On rainy days, water films form on wet road surfaces and reduce the braking force of vehicles, which often ends up in accidents. For safe driving, the road information signage provides information on road and weather conditions warning drivers of wet road conditions. Still, current information on road conditions is neither localized nor detailed but universal. The present study used the images on CCTVs installed on roads to compare the images of road surfaces in an attempt to suggest a mechanism determining factors that hamper safe driving based on the images. In the image comparison, a normal road image taken on a sunny day is used as an original image, against which road conditions occurring on rainy days are categorized and determined on a case-by-case basis to provide drivers with early warning for the sake of safe driving.

  • According as the drivers increase who have their cars, the comprehensive studies on the automobile for the traffic safety have been raised as the important problems. Visual Recognition System for radio-controled driving is a part of the sensor processor of Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle System. When a driver drives his car on an unknown highway or general road, it produces a model from the successively inputted road traffic information. The suggested Recognition System of the Road Traffic Safety Information Board is to recognize and distinguish automatically a Road Traffic Safety Information Board as one of road traffic information. The whole processes of Recognition System of the Road Traffic Safety Information Board suggested in this study are as follows. We took the photographs of Road Traffic Safety Information Board with a digital camera in order to get an image and normalize bitmap image file with a size of $200{\times}200$ byte with Photo Shop 5.0. The existing True Color is made up the color data of sixteen million kinds. We changed it with 256 Color, because it has large capacity, and spend much time on calculating. We have practiced works of 30 times with erosion and dilation algorithm to remove unnecessary images. We drawing out original image with the Region Splitting Technique as a kind of segmentation. We made three kinds of grouping(Attention Information Board, Prohibit Information Board, and Introduction Information Board) by RYB( Red, Yellow, Blue) color segmentation. We minimized the image size of board, direction, and the influence of rounding. We also minimized the Influence according to position. and the brightness of light and darkness with Eigen Vector and Eigen Value. The data sampling this feature value appeared after building the learning Code Book Database. The suggested Recognition System of the Road Traffic Safety Information Board firstly distinguished three kinds of groups in the database of learning Code Book, and suggested in order to recognize after comparing and judging the board want to recognize within the same group with Nearest Neighborhood Decision Making.

Road Aware Information Sharing in VANETs

  • Recently, several approaches to share road conditions and/or digital contents through VANETs have been proposed, and such approaches have generally considered the radial distance from the information source as well as the TTL to provision an ephemeral, geographically-limited information sharing service. However, they implement general MANETs and have not been tailored to the constrained movement of vehicles on roads that are mostly linear. In this paper, we propose a novel application-level mechanism that can be used to share road conditions, including accidents, detours and congestion, through a VANET. We assign probabilities to roads around each of the intersections in the neighborhood road network. We then use the graph representation of the road network to build a spanning tree of roads with the information source as the root node. Nodes below the root represent junctions, and the edges represent inter-connecting road segments. Messages propagate along the branches of the tree, and as the information propagates down the branches, the probability of replication decreases. The information is replicated until a threshold probability has been reached, and our method also ensures that messages are not delivered to irrelevant vehicles, independently of their proximity to the source. We evaluated the success rate and performance of this approach using NS-3 simulations, and we used IDM car following and MOBIL lane change models to provide realistic modeling of the vehicle mobility.

  • 전국의 주요 도로에 센서를 설치하여 교통정보를 수집하고 가공하여, 사용자인 일반 국민, TSP, 공공기관들에게 양질의 교통정보를 제공하기 위한 교통정보 수집/제공시스템의 데이터 연계/통합 모델을 제안하였다. 제안된 모델은 기존에 구축되어 있는 교통정보센터를 연계/통합하기 위하여 향상된 EAI 기술과 교통정보 교환기술 표준을 적용하여 서버간의 효율적인 통신을 가능하게 해준다.

Analysis of the Actual State of Direction Guidance System on Road Traffic Signs in Urban Area -Centering around Suwon City- (도시부 도로안내표지의 지명정보 전달체계 실태분석 - 경기도 수원시를 중심으로 -)

  • There are increasing needs to provide sufficient information on road directions through road signs for expanding cities and traffic networks. Improving efficiency of direction guidance information from road signs not only requires criteria for but also systematic approach to selecting place names that appear on road signs. As such, this paper looks at road direction information from existing road signs that leads to Suwon and investigates whether the current system of road signs provides efficient, systematic and continuous direction information for road users to easily reach their destination. In this paper, Suwon's city hall is set up as the final destination, which is linked from five other cities, Anyang, Osan, Ansan, Yongin and Seongnam. The paper attempts to find out whether there is continuity and suitable number of road signs for direction information by analyzing the road signs between these 5 cities and Suwon with respect to direction, direction advance notice and direction guidance. It is found that drivers cannot easily find the needed information on their destination from the existing road signs and that continuity of selected place names that systematically appear on road signs is insufficiency. In addition, direction guidance on road signs is problematic, because the appearance frequency of road signs is not adequate and the continuity of road signs is not effective. Moreover, there is insufficient information on local direction guidance for immediate destinations on road signs with respect to turning left or right or going straight.

  • On the road, geometric structure such as horizontal alignment, vortical alignment and crossing inclination ate important to explain characteristics of road and safety analysis. Especially, horizontal and vortical alignment are have to do with safety of covering. In existing road, for the safety analysis or alignment improvement and expansion pavement, it needs alignment factor of road. Alignment factor of road can be acquired by design drawing. But, design drawing can be not exist because of rack of facility management and national policy that centered to construction. And also, existing design drawing have a lot of differences in comparison with another existing design drawing cause of alignment improvement. In this case, for the precise analysis of alignment, 3-dimensional location information on the road centerline and acquisition of location information which related geometric structure are must to be preceded. In this study, therefore, it provide alignment factors which needed to alignment improvement and road safety analysis by acquisition of road space information and extraction of road centerline data using LiDAR data.

A Study on the Development of the System for the Road Occupation Permit Information Management (도로점용허가 정보관리를 위한 도로점용시스템 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a study on the development of a web-based system for the road occupation permit information management. For the development of this system, the survey of information system related to a road occupation permit, an analysis of road occupation business process, the definition of the road occupation permit data, the development of the system, and the application of the system to the work-related to road occupation permit were conducted consecutively. In an analysis of the road occupation business process, the statutes, such as the road act were investigated, work examples of the road management agent were reviewed, and a survey targeting staff and citizens was carried out. The information classification code to represent the attributes of the data was developed to manage the information in each road occupation permit process, and the metadata was defined considering the hierarchy relationship of the information. The road occupation and access system was developed based on the information classification code and metadata to reflect the user requirements. The System was applied to the Regional Construction and Management Administration and Branch Office belonging to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Affairs. By replacing the business process based on paper documents to the business process based on the information system, it is expected that the service of the civil petition be upgraded and the business process of the road occupation permit be reformed.

  • This paper describes a method of road tracking by using a vision and laser with extracting road boundary (road lane and curb) for navigation of intelligent transport robot in structured road environments. Road boundary information plays a major role in developing such intelligent robot. For global navigation, we use a global positioning system achieved by means of a global planner and local navigation accomplished with recognizing road lane and curb which is road boundary on the road and estimating the location of lane and curb from the current robot with EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) algorithm in the road assumed that it has prior information. The complete system has been tested on the electronic vehicles which is equipped with cameras, lasers, GPS. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the combined laser and vision system by our approach for detecting the curb of road and lane boundary detection.

  • The variable message sign (VMS) is equipment to improve the efficiency of traffic flow and safety of travel by providing real-time information to road users on traffic, road, weather situation, and traffic control due to construction. The information messages of the letter-based VMS taking up most of the VMS on the general national highways consist of section, travel time in sections, and road control situation. This study devised an improvement plan centered on road users, not road managers-centered existing message-based VMS through an analysis of road users' preference targeting the letter-based VMS operated in the general national highways in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. By presenting the measure for system improvement through which information on unexpected situations that road users prefer the most can be quickly and efficiently provided, this study aims to improve the efficiency of road user-centered VMS traffic information.

  • Information about the painted road markings and other painted road objects play an important part in keeping safety of drivers. Some researchers have presented research approaches and dealt with road markings detection. In this paper, we present comprehensive survey of these techniques, and review some of them like a machine learning method, template matching method for road markings detection and classification, method of detection and classification of road markings using curve-based prototype fitting, signed edge signature method.
