Analysis of Correlation between the Cause of Urbanization and Urbanization Effect of Busan by Using Daily Minimum Temperatures (일최저기온을 이용한 부산의 도시화효과와 도시화 원인과의 상관성 분석)

  • This study examined urbanization effects and the causes of urbanization, urban population growth, increase of the city scale, land cover change, and human cultures and economic activities, using the daily minimum temperatures of the past 50 years (1961-2010) with the subject of Busan and analyzed correlations between urbanization effects and the causes of urbanization. Thereby, this paper drew a conclusion as below: 1) Due to the urbanization effects, the average annual daily minimum temperature increased as about $1.2^{\circ}C$; however, except for the factor of urbanization, the increase was shown as about $0.2^{\circ}C$. The occupancy of urbanization effects in the total temperature increase was quite high as about 83%. 2) Just like other cities experiencing urbanization, Busan, too, sees population growth and the expansion of city area as well as increased urbanization effects. First of all, correlation between population growth and urbanization effect was high as 0.96 before 1985 while it was lowered as 0.19 after 1985. Also, correlation between the increase of city area and urbanization effect was high as 0.64 and 0.79 before and after 1985. 3) Regarding the correlation between long-term land use change and urbanization effect, urbanization effect was affected greatly by the increase of city area (0.97) and reduction of green area (0.92). 4) Concerning human activities possible to affect the climatic factors of a city, this paper found the following factors: road length, car increase, power use, and the consumer price index, etc. And regarding the correlation between the three factors and urbanization effect, the correlation was higher in the consumer price index (0.97), the number of registered cars (0.89), power use (0.75), and road length (0.58) in order.

  • A vehicle crash occurs due to various factors such as the geometry of the road section, traffic, and driver characteristics. A safety performance function has been used in many studies to estimate the relationship between vehicle crash and road factors statistically. And depends on the purpose of the analysis, various characteristic variables have been used. And various characteristic variables have been used in the studies depending on the purpose of analysis. The existing domestic studies generally reflect the average characteristics of the sections by quantifying the traffic volume in macro aggregate units such as the ADT, but this has a limitation that it cannot reflect the real-time changing traffic characteristics. Therefore, the need for research on effective aggregation units that can flexibly reflect the characteristics of the traffic environment arises. In this paper, we develop a safety performance function that can reflect the traffic characteristics in detail with an aggregate unit for one hour in addition to the daily model used in the previous studies. As part of the present study, we also perform a comparison and evaluation between models. The safety performance function for daily and hourly units is developed using a negative binomial regression model with the number of accidents as a dependent variable. In addition, the optimal negative binomial regression model for each of the hourly and daily models was selected, and their prediction performances were compared. The model and evaluation results presented in this paper can be used to determine the risk factors for accidents in the highway section considering the dynamic characteristics. In addition, the model and evaluation results can also be used as the basis for evaluating the availability and transferability of the hourly model.

Modeling Traffic Accident Characteristics and Severity Related to Drinking-Driving (음주교통사고 영향요인과 심각도 분석을 위한 모형설정)

  • Traffic accidents are caused by several factors such as drivers, vehicles, and road environment. It is necessary to investigate and analyze them in advance to prevent similar and repetitive traffic accidents. Especially, the human factor is most significant element and traffic accidents by drinking-driving caused from human factor have become social problem to be paid attention to. The study analyzes traffic accidents resulting from drinking-driving and the effects of driver's attributes and environmental factors on them. The study is composed as two parts. First, the log-linear model is applied to analyze that accidents by drinking or non-drinking driving associate with road geometry, weather condition and personal characteristics. Probability is tested for drinking-driving accidents relative to non-drinking drive accidents. The study analyzes probability differences between genders, between ages, and between kinds of vehicles through odds multipliers. Second, traffic accidents related to drinking are classified into property damage, minor injury, heavy injury, and death according to their severity. Heavy injury is more serious than minor one and death is more serious than heavy injury. The ordinal regression models are established to find effecting factors on traffic accident severity.

An Analysis of Factors Affecting Satisfaction with Seoul Public Bike (서울시 공공자전거 이용환경 만족도 영향요인 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to propose a policy direction to improve the service of public bicycles in Seoul by identifying the physical characteristics that affect the satisfaction level in the Seoul Metropolitan Government's public bicycle use environment. To this end, a survey was conducted on users regarding their experiences using public bicycles in Seoul, and the responses of 567 people were analyzed. IPA analysis and ordinal logistic analysis were used. An analysis of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's public bicycle IPA showed that the satisfaction level was lower than that of importance in all categories. Among them, the most urgent need for improvement was the installation of bicycle roads, improved connectivity of bicycle roads, improved road management, classification of roads and bicycle roads, improved safety during night driving, and low satisfaction levels. Second, an analysis of the factors affecting the satisfaction in the public bicycle use environment showed that the model's explanatory power increased significantly from 0.062 to 0.437 after incorporating perceived variables, confirming that the perceived neighborhood environment characteristics are an important variable for determining the satisfaction level in the public bicycle use environment, among the perceived neighborhood environmental characteristics, accessibility, convenience, manageability.

Social-environment factors by region for cause of death of elderly people in Korea (노인의 사망원인에 대한 거주지역간 사회 환경요인분석)

  • Objectives. The purpose of this study is to analyze the social-environment factors by region for cause of death elderly people in Korea and to study the factors of longevity. Methods. The study included 16 regions with a total of 177,585 elderly peoples. The data in this study was collected from The National Statistical Office, Republic of Korea. Results. Those regions the highest cerebrovascular disease were Incheon County in that order. The correlation of social-environment by cause of death factors were divorce (+0.832), air pollution of Pb ; lead (+0.879), smoking (+0.895), fatness (+0.666), local tax revenue (+0.756), air pollution of SO2 (+0.602) and dirt road (+0.863). Conclusions. We should learn to live long and healthily from residence harmonized with natural environment. Longevity of elderly peoples is to be fostered for the promotion of health by control the social-environment factors.

Analysis of Site Suitability of Forest Stands for Extracting Sap of Acer pictum var. mono Using GIS and Fuzzy Sets (퍼지집합과 GIS를 이용한 고로쇠나무 임분의 수액채취 적지 분석)

  • Using GJS and fuzzy sets, a model was developed for evaluating the site-suitability of forest stands for extracting sap of Acer pictum Thunb. var. mono in Mt. Baekun area. In the model, the productivity of sap extraction was expressed as the function of biotic and abiotic site factors. Among the factors, the topographic terrain conditions and accessibility of forest stands were chosen to consider working environment of the sap extraction. The difference in measurements of the factors between sap-extraction and non-sap-extraction forest stands was used in determining the weight of the relative importance for sap extraction productivity. The weight for distance-to-stream, vegetation type and shading condition turned out relatively higher than those for tree age, distance-to-road and DBH. Based on the results, a site-suitability map in Mt. Baekun area for sap extraction was built.

Prediction of Severities of Rental Car Traffic Accidents using Naive Bayes Big Data Classifier (나이브 베이즈 빅데이터 분류기를 이용한 렌터카 교통사고 심각도 예측)

  • Traffic accidents are caused by a combination of human factors, vehicle factors, and environmental factors. In the case of traffic accidents where rental cars are involved, the possibility and the severity of traffic accidents are expected to be different from those of other traffic accidents due to the unfamiliar environment of the driver. In this study, we developed a model to forecast the severity of rental car accidents by using Naive Bayes classifier for Busan, Gangneung, and Jeju city. In addition, we compared the prediction accuracy performance of two models where one model uses the variables of which statistical significance were verified in a prior study and another model uses the entire available variables. As a result of the comparison, it is shown that the prediction accuracy is higher when using the variables with statistical significance.

Analysis of Electric Vehicle Charging Behavior and Factors Influencing Utilization (전기자동차의 충전시설 이용현황 및 이용 영향요인 분석)

  • This study analyzes the recharging of electric vehicles and the factors influencing the utilization of chargers. Utilizing electric vehicle charging station data provided by the Korea Environment Corporation, utilization data in Seoul was constructed. A total of 5,810 charging stations and 28,233 chargers are in operation. The utilization rates for fast and slow chargers were 49.1% and 24.6%, respectively. On average, fast chargers were used 2.3 times per unit for 47.2 minutes per session, while slow chargers were used 1.2 times per unit for 251.5 minutes per session. Analysis of factors influencing charging station utilization revealed that fast chargers are more frequently used in stations with no usage restrictions, as well as areas with well-developed road infrastructure and in regions with a high density of commercial and business facilities. Unlike previous studies that relied on surveys, this study is significant because it utilizes actual charging station data. The results can serve as a foundational resource for formulating future charging infrastructure deployment strategies.

An Empirical Satisfaction Evaluation of Rural Village Development Project through Importance and Performance Analysis (IPA기법을 활용한 전원마을 사업 만족도 평가 분석)

  • The following research was conducted to encourage residents in urban areas to move to rural areas, and to improve the residential environments in those rural areas. Current policies for rural village development Project were analyzed, and policy implications were proposed. Residents in rural villages participated in a 12-question survey that asked their priorities prior to moving to the area, and factors contributing to resident satisfaction. Importance and Performance Analysis (IPA) was performed to present potential development strategies in the construction business. As a result, 'natural environment and landscapes' had the highest priority and satisfaction, whereas 'lack of public transportation and accessibility' and 'road conditions and parking facilities' had high priorities but low satisfaction levels. Thus, it is important to take nature and environment, as well as accessibility into consideration when moving to rural villages. Although this research was based on residents' bias, and the sample area was limited, these conclusions still offer important policy agreement provide of future rural villages location selection and establishment of land use planning.

A Theoretical Study on the Wildlife Passage for Connecting Fragmented Habitat(I)- In the case of Wildlife Passage Types and Design Process (분절된 서식처의 연결을 위한 생태이동통로에 관한 이론적 연구(I) - 유형구분 및 조성절차를 중심으로 -)

  • This study has been divided into two parts, 1) literature review and 2) a case study. Based on literature review and case studies found in Korea and abroad, this study aimed at classifying wildlife passages and establishing their development procedures in order to establish a theoretical ground for the development of wildlife passage as a way to link habitats that have been fragmented by the construction of roads and other developments. The results of the literature review are as follows : 1) Impact of road construction on surrounding ecological environment is found in various aspects. Along with damage of habitats as direct impact, decrease of biodiversity and simplification of species due to limited breeding and movement are cited as possible indirect impact. 2) In order to lessen the impact generated from fragmented habitats, various types of wildlife passage are being developed in Europe and are showing positive results. 3) In Korea, interests on animal passages have been rising recently. The ministry of Environment and local authorities are establishing development plans for the passages. However, practical materials on the usefulness of adoped methods are not available.4) In order to create an effective wildlife passage, decisions have to be made first on basic factors of planning and designing such as ecosystem rehabilitation methods and surveys on wildlife movement routes and habitat environment. Based on this, in a planning and designing stage, the location and type of a passage, size and measures to attract animals and prevent a collision need to be finalized. This should be followed by a series of process of maintenance, management and monitoring after the development. Based on the results of a theoretical study to develop an wildlife passage, Part 2 of this study deals with the results of an experiment through a specific planning and design that includes a process of ecological surveys, site selection, type selection, ecosystem infrastructure, planting design and construction details on an actual study area and presents them as a model project.
