The sand bar has developed at the junction of the Kum-ho River and Shin-ryoung River. The sediment transported from the Kumho River basin has decreased since the Youngchon Dam has been functioning. Sand bar and the vicinity of the bottleneck at the upstrem of Kumho River and Osu Island which is consisted of sand bar have inundated frequently. This study was carried out through the hydraulic model test to calibrate the hydraulic effect from removal of sand bar in the river and straightening the river course by land reclamation. The water level of river at the vicinity of bottleneck can be lowered as much as 0.40~0.7m when the sand bar is removed. When river is straightened the river course by land reclamation the water level can be lowered as half of removal of sand bar.
A method to filter out the effect of river stage fluctuations on groundwater level was designed using an artificial neural network-based time series model of groundwater level prediction. The designed method was applied to daily groundwater level data near the Gangjeong-Koryeong Barrage in the Nakdong river. Direct prediction time series models were successfully developed for both cases of before and after the barrage construction using past measurement data of rainfall, river stage, and groundwater level as inputs. The correlation coefficient values between observed and predicted data were over 0.97. Using the time series models the effect of river stage on groundwater level data was filtered out by setting a constant value for river stage inputs. The filtered data were applied to the hybrid water table fluctuation method in order to estimate the groundwater recharge. The calculated ratios of groundwater recharge to precipitation before and after the barrage construction were 11.0% and 4.3%, respectively. It is expected that the proposed method can be a useful tool for groundwater level prediction and recharge estimation in the riverside area.

Vietnam is one of the most vulnarable countries affected by climate change and sea level rise. One of the consequences of climate change and sea level rise is the increase of salinity intrusion into the rivers which is challenging to irrigation systems in coastal areas. This indicates the necessary to study the ability of taking water through sluice gates of irrigation systems in coastal zones, especially in the dry season with the effects of climate change and sea level rise in the future. In this paper, Nam Thai Binh irrigation system is selected as a case study. The irrigation system is one of 22 biggest irrigation systems of the Red River delta in Vietnam located in coastal region. The computed duration is selected in dry season to irrigate for Winter-Spring crops. The irrigation water for the study area is taken from different sluice gates along the Red River and the Tra Ly River. In this paper, MIKE-11 model was applied to assess the ability of taking water for irrigation of the study area in current situation and in the context of climate change and sea level rise senario in 2050 (under the medium emissions scenario (B2) published by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam published in 2012) with different condition of water availability. The operation of the gates depends on the water levels and sanility conditions. The sanility and water level at different water intake gates of Nam Thai Binh irrigation system were simulated with different senarios with and without climate change and sea level rise. The result shows that, under climate change and sea water level rise, some gates can take more water but some can not take water because of salinity excess and the total water taking from the different gates along the rivers decrease while the water demand is increase. The study indicates the necessary to study quantitatively some recommended solutions in the study area particularly and in coastal region generally in Vietnam to ensure water demand for irrigation and other purposes in the context of climate change and sea level rise in the future.
This paper proposes a core technology for a micro river monitoring terminal device suitable for flood monitoring in small rivers and valleys. Our proposed device is basically equipped with a 77GHz radar, gyro and accelerometer sensors. To measure the flow velocity and water level, we proposed a signal processing technique that extracts pure water energy components from the observed Doppler velocity and reflection intensity from the radar. And to determine the stability of the river structure equipped with our device, we constantly monitor the displacement of the measured values of the gyro and accelerometer sensors. Experimental result verified that our method detects pure water energy in various river environments and distinguishes between flow velocity and water level well. And we verified that vibration and position change of structures can be determined through a gyro sensor. In future research, we will work to build a secure digital twin river network by lowering the cost of supplying RF-WAV devices. Also we expect our device to contribute to securing a preventive golden time in rivers.
In tidal rivers, the water level is affected by a tidal wave. The latter creates higher flood stages that enlarge the flood plain areas and increase potential damages. In such rivers, the water level is not solely a function of the flow discharge but rather a joint function of both the discharge and tidal phenomena. This paper attempts at formulating a relation between tital water level and river flow discharge that can be used for the predictions of water level in coastal rivers. Numerical applications were performed on the HaDong and the SongJung Station in Sumjin river with satisfactory results. The correlation coefficients between the tide(M) and the water stage(Z) at the HaDong Station is 0.558, and SongJung is 0.016. From this result, the water level at HaDong Station is greatly affected by a tide, whereas songJung is not.

In recent localized heavy rainfalls have been arising from abnormal climate change. People are concerning about damages with increasing the frequency of flooding. Therefore, we need to understand river hydraulic characteristics and management to reduce damage from flooding. To study hydraulic characterization of Sincheon experimental catchment HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Center River Analysis System) model which provided by U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) was applied. This study analyzed and compared water level the frequency flood for 100 years and 200 years by clark unit Hydrography. The change of the water level of Daejeon bridge, Sincheon bridge and Singi bridge showed increased for all conditions. The flow rate for the Daejeon bridge and the Sincheon bridge showed an increase, but the Sinki bridge showed a decreasing flow rate overally, except for 1hour-100 years. The verification result showed that the model was able to simulate the water level with 0.4709 coefficient of determination and error ration ranging from 1 to 3%.
In this study, the stage-discharge relation curve made in 2006 is selected with standard curves to seize the hydraulic and geometric characteristics for the temporal variation of the river bed. The relationships among the standard stage-discharge relation curve and the existing stage-discharge relation curves, water level, cross sectional area, and flow velocity are analyzed. Jeokpogyo and Jindong which are the key station of Nakdong river are chosen for the study, with respect to the current river bed to convert the existing stage-discharge curves. The relationships for conversion of previous data, between water level and flow velocity are got. Also the relation equation between water level and cross sectional area and water level, flow velocity are derived. These conversion relationships shows good agreement between observed values and estimated values. It will be very useful to convert past hydraulic quantitations to current one.

There is a big difference of discharge rate between drought and flood period in Korea since the importance of water resources management has come to the fore. To know a river characteristics, it needs to estimate river discharge accurately. River discharge is calculated using the measured velocity of cross section and the estimated area of watercourse as input parameters into continuity equation. Generally, flow rate over a river is estimated from the relation equation between level and discharge, in this case, there are weakness for only the equal depths and the equal discharge estimated. In the present study, therefore, water surface slope was estimated using measured water level of Seongseo water level observation station and measured water level using ADVM at Gangchang Bridge. And then, we developed the discharge calculation equation using water surface slope. A method to easily calculated flow rate from the measured depth of the two points that are suggested by reflecting water surface slope because natural stream is unsteady flow, not uniform flow or not steady flow.
Loading of NPS pollutant was valued through simulation by using BASINS/HSPF model which can simulate runoff volume in rainfall by time. For the verification of the model, it was analyzed the scatter diagram of the simulation value and measure value of water quality and runoff volume in Dongcheon estuary. Using the built model, a study on the time-variant characteristics of runoff and water quality was simulated by being classified into four cases. The result showed the simulation value was nearly same as that of the measured runoff. In the result of fit level test for measured value and simulated value, correlation of runoff volume was computed high by average 0.86 and in the water quality items, fit level of simulation and measurements was high by BOD 0.82, T-N 0.85 and T-P 0.79.
