  • In modern society, digital lifestyles are spreading to minimize contact with people and to receive contactless information. The spread trend has established an unmanned distribution system in which transactions through contactless technologies such as kiosks and chatbots are activated in face-to-face transactions with sellers and consumers. In order to streamline logistics supply worldwide, digital new deal based joint logistics hubs, unmanned courier storage platforms, and fresh logistics based last mile services have been developed into unmanned logistics systems, focusing on the intelligent logistics system automation process. Unmanned courier storage system installed in urban areas and home to daily logistics where volume is concentrated are provided with fresh logistics services through cold chain and receiving freights in contactless environments. Development is also underway to minimize safety accidents caused by courier services, such as managing various information based on the integrated control system. This paper defines the concept of integrated operation for the development of a platform for contactless unmanned courier storage device developed into next-generation logistics system. In addition, we intend to develop systems engineering-based output for deriving safety requirements and specifications by identifying risk sources that may occur in the operational scenario. Therefore, the goal is to establish a foundation for safety and reliability between interfaces of logistics systems to be installed in apartment and subway station environments that want to provide unmanned logistics services to various consumers.

  • PURPOSES : In this study, we analyzed the road crossing behavior of older pedestrians on a mid-block signalized crosswalk, and compared it to that of younger pedestrians. In addition, we analyzed the correlation between accidents involving older pedestrians while crossing roads and their behavioral characteristics. Finally, we confirmed the reasons for an increase in accidents involving older pedestrians. METHODS : First, 30 areas with the highest incidence of accidents involving older pedestrians while crossing roads were selected as target areas for analysis. Next, we measured the start-up delay (the time elapsed from the moment the signal turns green to the moment the pedestrian starts walking) and head movement (the number of head turns during crossing a road) of 900 (450 older and 450 younger) pedestrians. The next step was to conduct a survey and confirm the differences in judgment between older and younger pedestrians about approaching vehicles. Finally, we analyzed the correlation between the survey results and traffic accidents. RESULTS : The average start-up delay and head movement of the older pedestrians was 1.58 seconds and 3.15 times, respectively. A definite correlation was obtained between head movement and the frequency of pedestrian traffic accidents. The results of our survey indicate that 17.3% of the older pedestrians and 7.8% of the younger pedestrians have a high crash risk. CONCLUSIONS : Behavioral characteristics of older pedestrians were closely correlated with accidents involving older pedestrians while crossing roads in mid-block signalized crosswalks. Our study indicates that in order to reduce the number of accidents involving older pedestrians, it is necessary to develop an improvement plan including measures such as installation of safety facilities taking the behavioral characteristics of older pedestrians into consideration and their safety education.

  • Recently, an interest in risk calculation methods has been increasing in Korea due to the establishment of classification code for explosive hazardous area on gas facility (KGS CODE GC101), which is based on the international standard of classification of areas - explosive gas atmospheres (IEC 60079-10-1). However, experiments to check for leaks of combustible or toxic gases are very difficult. These experiments can lead to fire, explosion, and toxic poisoning. Therefore, even if someone tries to provide a laboratory for this experiment, it is difficult to install a gas leakage equipment. In this study we find out differences among actual experiments, CFD by using FLACS and calculation based on classification code for explosive hazardous area on gas facility (KGS CODE GC101) by comparing to each other. We develpoed KGS HAC (hazardous area classification) program which based on KGS GC101 for convenience and popularization. As a result, actual gas leak, CFD and KGS HAC are showing slightly different results. The results of dispersion of 1.8 to 2.7 m were shown in the actual experiment, and the CFD and KGS HAC showed a linear increase of about 0.4 to 1 m depending on the increase in a flow rate. In the actual experiment, the application of 3/8" tubes and orifice to take into account the momentum drop resulted in an increase in the hazardous distance of about 1.95 m. Comparing three methods was able to identify similarities between real and CFD, and also similarities and limitations of CFD and KGS HAC. We hope these results will provide a good basis for future experiments and risk calculations.

  • Seoul's public bicycle system, 'Ttareungyi,' introduced in 2015, has achieved an annual ridership of 40 million in 2022. Similarly, electric scooters, a type of personal mobility device, surpassed one million riders in 2020 due to various sharing platforms. However, the major roadways for these new transportation, bicycle lanes, are notably insufficient compared to other forms of transport. Hence, this study proposes an optimal location selection method for bicycle lanes in Seoul to prevent accidents and enhance bicycle ride safety. The location selection process prioritizes road safety concerning bicycle accident risk. Using regression models, high-risk areas for bicycle accidents are identified. Cluster analysis categorizes these areas into six clusters, each suggesting suitable types of bicycle lanes based on cluster-specific characteristics. We hope that this study will contribute to the improvement of Seoul's transportation environment, including the expansion of dedicated bicycle lanes and lanes for personal mobility devices.

  • This study was fulfilled to investigate the forest fire risk of forest fuels based on the combustion characteristics of living leaves of coniferous trees and broadleaf trees naturally growing in Youngdong areas of Gangwon Province by using cone calorimeter and smoke density chamber. According to the result, Pinus densiflora and Pinus rigida among coniferous trees released a greater amount of heat release than other kinds. The total smoke release varied depending on the species, whereas Pinus koraiensis showed the largest amount of smoke release. With regard to maximum smoke density, it was much higher in coniferous trees than in broadleaf trees. With regard to smoke temperature, Pinus densiflora showed the lowest compared to other kinds up until 200s from the ignition, but all most trees uniformly maintained constant temperature of about $70^{\circ}C$ after 200s. The concentrations of CO and $CO_2$ release were drastically increased at about 150s and then gradually decreased thereafter. Pinus densiflora showed a bit higher CO release than broadleaf trees, but there was no distinct difference in $CO_2$ release among tress.

  • The horizontal force transfer to the turbine and substructure of a wind power generation system is a very important factor in maintaining the safety of the system, but it is inevitably vulnerable to large-scale coastal disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. Wind power generation systems built on the coast or far offshore are very disadvantageous in terms of economic feasibility due to an increase in initial investment cost because a more robust design is required when installed in areas vulnerable to coastal disasters. In this study, the GIS method was used to select the optimal site for a wind farm from the viewpoint of reducing the risk of coastal disasters. The current status of earthquakes in the West and South Seas of Korea, and the path and intensity of typhoons affecting or passing through the West and South Seas were also analyzed. Accordingly, the optimal offshore wind farm site with the lowest risk of coastal disasters has been selected and will be used as basic research data for offshore wind power projects in the region in the future.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the status of accidents and to assess hazards in institutional foodservices in the Changwon and Masan areas. A survey was conducted from February 1 to March 31, 2009 using questionnaires, and 142 dietitians participated. The dietitians' perception of accident risks in workplace averaged 3.11 points. Forty-five percent of the respondents responded that accidents had occurred more than once between 2006 and 2008. In addition, 28.2% of the respondents experienced employee absences or turnover due to accidents during Year 2008. 'Musculoskelectal injuries or disorders (65.5%)', 'slips or falls (64.8%)', 'burns (57.7%)', and 'cuts and punctures (48.6%)' were the predominant accidents in foodservice. 'Knives (76 points)', 'steam kettles (41 points)', 'vegetable cutters (34 points)' and 'turn kettles (26 points)' were the equipment with severe accidents, such as burns or cut injuries. Among foodservice processes, 'carpal tunnel syndrome while washing (2.83 points)', 'burned by frying oil (2.64 points)', 'cut by sharp tools (2.55 points)', 'musculoskelectal injury by moving heavy weight food materials (2.41 points)', and 'injury by slipping on wet workplace floors and trenches (2.19 points)' were the most frequently occurring accidents at foodservice sites. To prevent safety accidents, dietitians' perceptions of safety supervision should be improved, and therefore, it is necessary they receive safety education.

  • Due to the rapidly aging population, the death rate of elderly people by safety accidents has been increasing. In particular, precautions are needed for falls prevention because they either directly or indirectly cause death. In the case of elderly people, most of the fall accidents occur in dense residential areas, and particularly, the staircase poses a risk of falling. Therefore, a safety assessment should be performed from the design phase. However, in general, staircases are designed using existing stair data or only aims to satisfy the installation criteria. Laws and regulations only define minimum requirements for safety, so it is not possible to prevent fall accidents even if they satisfy the requirements. Therefore, this study proposes a simulation-based method for evaluating the safety of staircases. The behavioral characteristics of the elderly are implemented to an virtual user in a virtual space including staircases, and fall accidents are evaluated by the evaluation logic related to the behavioral characteristics. The result shows that the safety of staircases can be preevaluated and reflected on the design to reduce the possibility of fall accidents of the elderly.

  • The purpose. in this study. is to analyze liquefaction potential of Inchon International Airport at the Area Phase ' I ' for Railway Construction of all, seismic response was analyzed using the computer program, Shake91. Four methods proposed by Seed & Idriss. Eurocode, Iwasaki & Tatsuoka. and Ishihara were used for assessment of liquefaction potential and safety factors calculated form these methods are compared. Based on the results of seismic response analysis, the maximum acceleration at the ground surface is larger than that evaluated site factor effect by using site factor because these areas are composed of very loose sand clay. Especially, in the case of analysis with long period earthquake data. it is appeared that the acceleration of earthquake is amplified more largely. Therefore, accurate seismic response analysis is suggested for the design on the important structures on reclaimed land. The analytical results of liquefaction potential show that the increments of N-value and effective overburden pressure with remediation make safety factors increase. Through comparing the safety factors evaluated from four method, the safety factor calculated by See & Idriss method in the lowest one and it is found that the SPT N-value effect the safety factor very largely. And, Iwasaki & Tatsuoka method is affected by various factors such as average grain size. fine contents, confining pressure. In conclusion. to minimize earthquake Risk by liquefaction, the efficient remediation is essential and seismic response analysis should be carride out.
