Using the commercial CFD code FLOW-$3D^{(R)}$ which has an implicit General Moving Object (GMO) method, the ship-induced wave has been simulated. In the implicit GMO method of the FLOW-$3D^{(R)}$, a rigid body's motion which is either user-prescribed (prescribed motion) or dynamically coupled to fluid flow (coupled motion) can be computed with six degrees of freedom (DOF). The simulated horizontal wave patterns are agree with the wave patterns represented by depth Froude number. The model has been well-simulated to generate the depth-dependent wave transformation in comparison of uniform depth case to complicated depth case. Additionally, it shows that ship-induced waves have been reasonably generated by two ships passing each other and by a ship moving in a curve. Therefore, it is suggested that the FLOW-$3D^{(R)}$ model calibrated with observed data should provide more accurate prediction for the ship-induced wave in a certain fairway or harbor.

This paper introduces a simulator to assess the impacts of the wind and the airframe vibration on the performance of the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar mounted in an aircraft. The AESA radar is mounted on the nose cone of an aircraft, and vibration occurs due to the drag force. This vibration affects the behavior of the AESA radar and can cause phase errors in signal. The simulator adopts the geometric model for nose cone, the mathematical models on the rigid-body dynamics of the aircraft, the average/turbulent winds, and the mode/ambient vibrations to compute the position and the attitude of the radar accurately. Numerical studies reflecting a set of test scenarios were conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed simulator.

The principal objective of this paper was to evaluate the steering characteristics of a tandem tracked vehicle, each side of which features two tandem tracks, when crawling on extremely cohesive soft soil. The tandem tracked vehicle is assumed to be a rigid-body with 6-dof. The dynamic analysis program of the tandem tracked vehicle was developed via Newmark's method and the incremental-iterative method. A terra-mechanics model of extremely cohesive soft soil was implemented according to the relationships of normal pressure to sinkage, of shear resistance to shear displacement, and of dynamic sinkage to shear displacement. In order to simplify the characteristics of contact interaction between track segments and cohesive soft soil, the characteristics of soil are equated to the properties of intact soil. In an effort to evaluate the steering characteristics of a tandem tracked vehicle crawling on extremely cohesive soft soil, a series of dynamic simulations were conducted for a tandem tracked vehicle model with respect to the front and rear steering angle, the steering ratio, and the initial velocity.
In this study, we Presented computational results on the blood flow in the sac of the Korean artificial heart. Two dimensional unsteady flow was assumed and we utilized a finite element commercial code ADINA to simulate the blood flow. Rigid body-solid contact were considered between the actuator and the blood sac and fluid-structure interaction between the blood and the sac. The three geometric models proposed in the design process were simulated to assess the hemodynamic characteristics of the models According to the computational results, a strong flow to the outlet and a stagnated flow region near the inlet were observed during systole. The sac was filled with blood and recirculating flow was generated near the outlet during diastole. Shear stress during systole had its extreme values near the outlet edge whereas the magnitude of shear stress values were relative)v high near the inlet edge and the contacting surface with the actuator.

Objective: Sliding mechanics using orthodontic miniscrews is widely used to stabilize the anchorage during extraction space closure. However, previous studies have reported that both posterior segment displacement and anterior segment displacement are possible, depending on the mechanical properties of the archwire. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of archwire stiffness and friction change on the displacement pattern of the maxillary posterior segment during anterior segment retraction with orthodontic miniscrews in sliding mechanics. Methods: A three-dimensional finite element model was constructed. The retraction point was set at the archwire level between the lateral incisor and canine, and the orthodontic miniscrew was located at a height of 8 mm from the archwire between the second premolar and first molar. Archwire stiffness was simulated with rectangular stainless steel wires and a rigid body was used as a control. Various friction levels were set for the surface contact model. Displacement patterns for the posterior and anterior segments were compared between the conditions. Results: Both the anterior and posterior segments exhibited backward rotation, regardless of archwire stiffness or friction. Among the conditions tested in this study, the least undesirable rotation was found with low archwire stiffness and low friction. Conclusions: Posterior segment displacement may be unavoidable but reducing the stiffness and friction of the main archwire may minimize unwanted rotations during extraction space closure.

Steel-concrete composite box girder bridges are widely used in the construction of highway and railway bridges both domestically and abroad due to their advantages of being light weight and having a large spanning ability and very large torsional rigidity. Composite box girder bridges exhibit the effects of shear lag, restrained torsion, distortion and interface bidirectional slip under various loads during operation. As one of the most commonly used calculation tools in bridge engineering analysis, one-dimensional models offer the advantages of high calculation efficiency and strong stability. Currently, research on the one-dimensional model of composite beams mainly focuses on simulating interface longitudinal slip and the shear lag effect. There are relatively few studies on the one-dimensional model which can consider the effects of restrained torsion, distortion and interface transverse slip. Additionally, there are few studies on vehicle-bridge integrated systems where a one-dimensional model is used as a tool that only considers the calculations of natural frequency, mode and moving load conditions to study the dynamic response of composite beams. Some scholars have established a dynamic analysis model of a coupled composite beam bridge-train system, but where the composite beam is only simulated using a Euler beam or Timoshenko beam. As a result, it is impossible to comprehensively consider multiple complex force effects, such as shear lag, restrained torsion, distortion and interface bidirectional slip of composite beams. In this paper, a 27 DOF vehicle rigid body model is used to simulate train operation. A two-node 26 DOF finite beam element with composed box beams considering the effects of shear lag, restrained torsion, distortion and interface bidirectional slip is proposed. The dynamic analysis model of the coupled composite box girder bridge-train system is constructed based on the wheel-rail contact relationship of vertical close-fitting and lateral linear creeping slip. Furthermore, the accuracy of the dynamic analysis model is verified via the measured dynamic response data of a practical composite box girder bridge. Finally, the dynamic analysis model is applied in order to study the influence of various mechanical effects on the dynamic performance of the vehicle-bridge system.
Recently many researches have been focused on the use of the markerless augmented reality system using face, foot, and hand of user's body to alleviate many disadvantages of the marker based augmented reality system. In addition, most existing augmented reality systems have been utilized rigid objects since they just desire to insert and to basic interaction with virtual object in the augmented reality system. In this paper, unlike restricted marker based augmented reality system with rigid objects that is based in display, we designed and implemented the markerless augmented reality system using deformable objects to apply various fields for interactive situations with a user. Generally, deformable objects can be implemented with mass-spring modeling and the finite element modeling. Mass-spring model can provide a real time simulation and finite element model can achieve more accurate simulation result in physical and mathematical view. In this paper, the proposed markerless augmented reality system utilize the mass-spring model using tetraheadron structure to provide real-time simulation result. To provide plausible simulated interaction result with deformable objects, the proposed method detects and tracks users hand with Kinect SDK and calculates the external force which is applied to the object on hand based on the position change of hand. Based on these force, 4th order Runge-Kutta Integration is applied to compute the next position of the deformable object. In addition, to prevent the generation of excessive external force by hand movement that can provide the natural behavior of deformable object, we set up the threshold value and applied this value when the hand movement is over this threshold. Each experimental test has been repeated 5 times and we analyzed the experimental result based on the computational cost of simulation. We believe that the proposed markerless augmented reality system with deformable objects can overcome the weakness of traditional marker based augmented reality system with rigid object that are not suitable to apply to other various fields including healthcare and education area.

The successful outcome of dental implants is mainly the result of intial implant stability following placement. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a self-tapping blades and implant design on initial stability of two tapered implant systems in poor bone quality. The two different implant systems included one with self-tapping blades and one without self-tapping blades. D4 bone model using Solid Rigid Polyurethane Form was used to simulate poor bone densities. The insertion torque during implant placement was recorded. Resonance frequency Analysis (RFA), measured as the implant stability quotient (ISQ), was assessed immediately after insertion. Finally, the implant-bone specimen was transferred to an Universal Testing Machine to measure the axial pull-out force. Insertion torque values and maximum pull-out torque value of the non self-tapping implants were significantly higher than those in the self-tapping group (P = 0.008). No statistically differences were noted between the two implant designs in RFA. Within the each implant system, no correlation among insertion torque, maximum pull-out torque and RFA value could be determined. Higher insertion torque of the non-self-tapping implants appeared to confirm higher clinical initial stability. In conclusion, implants without self-tapping blades have higher initial stability than implants with self-tapping blades in poor bone quality.

An analytical procedure to analyze reinforced concrete (RC) beams subject to monotonic loadings is proposed on the basis of the moment-curvature relations of RC sections. Unlike previous analytical models which result the overestimation of stiffnesses and underestimation of structural deformations induced from ignoring the shear deformation and assuming perfect-bond condition between steel and concrete, the proposed relation considers the rigid-body-motion due to anchorage slip at the fixed end. The advantages of the proposed relation, compared with the previous numerical models, are on the promotion in effectiveness of analysis and reflection of influencing factors which must be considered in nonlinear analysis of RC beam by taking into account the nonlinear effects into the simplifying moment-curvature relation. Finally, correlation studies between analytical and experimental results are conducted to establish the applicability of the proposed model to the nonlinear analysis of RC structures.

The sloshing of liquid inside an ocean floater is caused by disturbances due to waves. For the analysis of sloshing impact within the floater and that of waves on the floater, the coupled analysis method is used. The Stokes $5^{th}$ order non-linear wave theory equations were adapted for wave making. Furthermore, Navier-Stokes equation and Shear-Stress Transport (SST) turbulent model were used to Computational Fluid dynamics, where the ocean floater motions are considered the heave and the pitch motion. The results obtained confirms the mutual relationship between the rigid body motions and that of sloshing, where the sloshing behaviour within the floater is characterized by the wave effects on the floater.
