  • When GPS (global positioning system) is used as synchronous signal in CDMA digital cellular base station system and high speed digital synchronous communication network, antenna cable length is increased, comparing with other GPS application such as positioning or car navigation. In this paper, it is proposed that a type of new GPS antenna system including RF stage for reduction of cable loss in case of long cable. The antenna system with TMPA(truncated-corners microstrip patch antenna) is designed and fabricated because GPS signal has RHCP (right-hand circular polarization), consequently antenna size can be made small size. LNA (low noise amplifier) is designed by using HEMT(high electron mobility transistor)which has lower noise figurae and better AGC characteristics at low voltage than GaAs FET, and we equiped mixer, in GPS antenna unit, which converts from 1575.42MHz to 75.42MHz. As result of comparing between typical system and proposed system when cable length is 60m, 63dB, 55dB and 25dB gain are obtained for RG-316/U, RG-58C/U and RG-213/U, and better characteristics are achieved than typical system as far as cable length is longer.

  • This paper proposes a kinect-based human motion recognition model for the 3D contents control after tracking the human body gesture through the camera in the infrared kinect project. The proposed human motion model in this paper computes the distance variation of the body movement from shoulder to right and left hand, wrist, arm, and elbow. The human motion model is classified into the movement directions such as the left movement, right movement, up, down, enlargement, downsizing. and selection. The proposed kinect-based human motion recognition model is very natural and low cost compared to other contact type gesture recognition technologies and device based gesture technologies with the expensive hardware system.

  • Maternal diabetes is known to have teratogenic effects which increase the risk for congenital anomalies, such as caudal dysplasia, cardiac defects, hydronephrosis, and small left colon syndrome. Infants of diabetic mothers have a 10-fold higher frequency of anomalies in the central nervous system and a 5-fold higher frequency of congenital heart defects. However, jejunal atresia combined with multiple anomalies of the face, ears, and hands has rarely been reported. Herein we report a neonate born to a diabetic mother, who had hemifacial microsomia, displacement of the lacrimal ducts, polydactyly of the right hand, microtia of the right ear and proximal jejunal atresia presenting as bile regurgitation on the 1st day of life.

  • Background: The restriction of wrist motion results in limited hand function, and the evaluation of the range of wrist motion is related to the evaluation of wrist function. To analyze and compare the wrist motion during four selected tasks, we developed a new desktop motion analysis system using the motion controller for a home video game console. Methods: Eighteen healthy, right-handed subjects performed 15 trials of selective tasks (dart throwing, hammering, circumduction, and winding thread on a reel) with both wrists. The signals of light-emitting diode markers attached to the hand and forearm were detected by the optic receptor in the motion controller. We compared the results between both wrists and between motions with similar motion paths. Results: The parameters (range of motion, offset, coupling, and orientations of the oblique plane) for wrist motion were not significantly different between both wrists, except for radioulnar deviation for hammering and the orientation for thread winding. In each wrist, the ranges for hammering were larger than those for dart throwing. The offsets and the orientations of the oblique plane were not significantly different between circumduction and thread winding. Conclusions: The results for the parameters of dart throwing, hammering, and circumduction of our motion analysis system using the motion controller were considerably similar to those of the previous studies with three-dimensional reconstruction with computed tomography, electrogoniometer, and motion capture system. Therefore, our system may be a cost-effective and simple method for wrist motion analysis.

  • Background : The human being and the bacteria have accomplished a balance and have coexisted each other during long time. Probiotics have evolved with the human host to exist and the result they have operated profitably to human host. So it requires that the functions of probiotics are expounded in view of Traditional Korean Medicine. Aim : Suggest the functions of probiotics in view of Traditional Korean Medicine. Method : The author's research has been performed to review the related references. Results : Probiotics assist the absorption of the lactose, proteins and minerals and product several kinds of vitamins, organic acids. Probiotics suppresses the growth of noxious bacteria and the production of harmful substances or gases. They absorbed and discharge the bile acid, and thus help us maintain the optimal level of blood cholesterol concentration. They can reinforce the immune response of the mucous membrane and control the hypersensitivity immune reaction such as asthma, atopy on the other hand. Probiotics have right functions as above and so can be applied widely in treatment of various disease and symptom. Conclusion : Considering the functions of probiotics in view of Traditional Korean Medicine, they participate in our spleen-earth-system (digestion and synthesis) and liver-wood-system (regulation of digestion, metabolism, internal secretion etc.), assist the function of lung-metal system(respiration and regulation of water metabolism) and regulate wi-chi (reinforce/control immune system). Consequently, hereafter there would be a necessity of control a circumstance in treatment of various diseases under these categories that probiotics should be able to do their right functions inside the human body.

  • Two radially arterial pulses of both hands using the prototype of a clamping clip pulsimeter equipped with permanent magnet and Hall device are compared and analyzed. The phase difference of two pulse wave signals is dominantly presented from the simultaneous measuring clinical pulse wave signals for twenty two male participants at their 20's. It is possible to analyze that the fast and slow pulse wave for right hand and left hand depend on the muscle property of arms rather than the total length of blood vessel due to cardiovascular circulatory system.

  • Introduction: Surgical treatment of subclavian artery (SA) injury is challenging because approaching the lesion directly and clamping the proximal artery is difficult. This can be overcome by using an endovascular technique. Case 1: A 37-year-old male was drawn into the concrete mixer truck. He had a right SA injury with multiple traumatic injuries: an open fracture of the right leg with posterior tibial artery (PTA) injury, a right hemothorax, and fractures of the clavicle, scapula, ribs, cervical spine and nasal bone. The injury severity score (ISS) was 27. Computed tomography (CT) showed a 30-mm-length thrombotic occlusion in the right SA, which was 15 mm distal to the vertebral artery (VA). A self-expandable stent($8mm{\times}40mm$ in size) was deployed through the right femoral artery while preserving VA flow, and the radial pulse was palpable after deployment. Other operations were performed sequentially. He had a viable right arm during a 13-month follow-up period. Case 2: A 25-year-old male was admitted to our hospital due to a motorcycle accident. The ISS was 34 because of a hemothorax and open fractures of the mandible and the left hand. Intraoperative angiography was done through a right femoral artery puncture. Contrast extravasation of the SA was detected just outside the left rib cage. After balloon catheter had been inflated just proximal to the bleeding site, direct surgical exploration was performed through infraclavicular skin incision. The transected SA was identified, and an interposition graft was performed using a saphenous vein graft. Other operations were performed sequentially. He had a viable left arm during a 15-month follow-up period. Conclusion: The challenge of repairing an SA injury can be overcome by using an endovascular approach.

  • The purpose of this study Is to classify foot types of elderly women and young women and to suggest shoes size system by foot types for elderly women. The subjects were 321 elderly women and 181 young women. Their right feet were measured directly and indirectly by using scanner and digital camera. The anthropometric measurements were composed of 62 items. They were measured during the months of July and October in 2001 and November in 2002 The results and discussions of this study are as follows. First, in analyzing shape of the foot of elderly and young women, the shapes of foot were classified as N-type (high and narrow foot shape and wide toes), W-type (wider width for its length and severe alteration), L-type (low foot shape as oval). Second, the most characteristic foot type in elderly women was W-type. In this type, the width was wider for its length, the first metatarsophalangeal protrusion was severe and the toes were gathered at the center. On the other hand, young women belonged to N-type. Third, we suggested new size system of shoes for elderly women and the standard foot shape each type. The size system was based on foot length and foot types. Hopefully, understanding the shapes of foot and characteristics of each foot type will help to develop suitable shoes for elderly women.
