까막전복(Haliotis discus) 치패용 EP사료내 어분과 해조류 대체원으로서 참치부산물분과 생미강의 효과 (Effects of Substituting Fish Meal and Macroalgae for Tuna Byproduct Meal and Rice Bran in Extruded Pellets Fed to Juvenile Abalone Haliotis discus (Reeve 1846))

  • We investigated the effect of replacing tuna byproduct meal (TBM) and rice bran (RB) with fish meal (FM) and macroalgae (MA) in extruded pellets (EP) supplied as a diet to juvenile Abalone Haliotis duscus in aquaculture. In total, 80,000 juvenile abalone were distributed among eight indoor raceways and supplied with one of four experimental diets. The control diet consisted of FM, fermented soybean meal, corn gluten meal and shrimp meal as protein sources, with wheat flour and dextrin as carbohydrate sources; the control diet also contained MA. In the FM50 diet, TBM was replaced with 50% FM. In the MA 50 diet, RB was replaced with 50% MA. The final diet, FM50+MA50, included TMB and RB in place of 50% FM and 50% MA. Abalone were fed to satiation with little food leftover for 16 weeks. Weight gain and specific growth rate of abalone fed the control diet were greater than those of abalone fed the FM50 and MA50 diets, but not different from those of abalone fed FM50+MA50 diet. The proximate composition of abalone soft body did not vary according to experimental diets. Based on these results, it appears that the traditional commercial diet for juvenile abalone, comprising FM and MA, could be replaced with one containing 50% TBM and 50% RB without any retardation of growth.

안정화 미강이 고지방 식이로 유도된 C57BL/6 Mice의 비만과 항산화 효소 활성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Stabilized Rice Bran on Obesity and Antioxidative Enzyme Activity in High Fat Diet-induced Obese C57BL/6 Mice)

  • 미강은 쌀 도정의 부산물로 다양한 연구에서 미강의 생리활성 구성 요소의 항산화, 항암, 면역 강화, 콜레스테롤 저하효과가 보고되어 미강을 식품소재로 활용하기 위한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 하지만 미강을 첨가한 제품의 품질과 관능 기호도에 대한 기초 자료를 제공할 뿐이고, 미강의 생리활성에 대한 연구는 미강 추출물로 이루어진 것이 대부분이다. 이에 본 연구는 안정화 미강 첨가가 항비만 및 항산화 효과를 나타내는지 생리적 효과를 검토하기 위해 in vivo model에서 실험을 진행하였다. C57BL/6 마우스에 6주간 고지방식이를 급여하여 비만을 유도하였고, 미강이 비만에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고 제품 개발 시 기능성을 유지하는 적정 첨가비율을 확인하기 위해 안정화 미강 분말을 고지방 식이에 각각 20%, 40%를 첨가하여 7주간 실험을 진행하였다. 실험결과 고지방 식이에 미강을 20% 첨가한 HFRB20군은 HFD군과 유의한 차이가 없었지만, 고지방 식이에 미강을 40% 첨가한 HFRB40군에서 체중 증가 억제와 지방 조직 무게감소 효과 및 혈당 저하와 leptin 농도의 감소를 보였고 항산화 효소 활성을 개선시켰다. 이러한 결과는 안정화 미강의식이 섬유소와 그 외의 주요 성분들이 복합적으로 시너지효과를 나타냈기 때문으로 보인다. 결론적으로 안정화 미강을 이용하여 생리적 효과를 나타내는 제품 개발에 안정화 미강의 첨가량은 40%가 적절한 것으로 생각된다. 그러나 본 연구는 7주의 단기 연구를 수행하였고 통계적 유의성은 없었으나 HFRB20군에서 비만과 항산화 및 관련 지표가 개선되는 경향을 나타내었으므로 장기간 섭취 시의 효과에 대한 추후 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

Method development to reduce the fiber content of wheat bran and rice bran through anaerobic fermentation with rumen liquor for use in poultry feed

  • Objective: Wheat bran (WB) and rice bran (RB) are the agricultural by-products used as poultry feed in many developing countries. However, their use for poultry feed is limited due to high fiber and the presence of anti-nutritional substances (e.g. ${\beta}-glucans$). The objective of this study was to develop a method to improve the quality of those brans by reducing the fiber content. Methods: A two-step fermentation method was developed where the second fermentation of first fermented dry bran was carried out. Fermentation was performed at a controlled environment for 3 h and 6 h (n = 6). The composition of brans, buffer solution and rumen liquor was maintained in a ratio of 1:2:3, respectively. Brans were analyzed for dry matter, crude fiber (CF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and acid detergent lignin (ADL) content. Celluloses and hemicelluloses were calculated from the difference of ADF-ADL and NDF-ADF, respectively. Samples were compared by two-factor analysis of variance followed by Tukey's multiple comparison tests (p<0.05). Results: CF %, ADF % and cellulose tended to decrease and NDF % and hemicellulose content was reduced significantly (p<0.05). After the 1st fermentation step, NDF decreased $10.7%{\pm}0.55%$ after 3 h vs $17.0%{\pm}0.78%$ after 6 h in case of WB. Whereas, these values were $2.3%{\pm}0.30%$ (3 h) and $7.5%{\pm}0.69%$ (6 h) in case of RB. However, after the 2nd fermentation step, the decrease in the NDF content amounted to $9.1%{\pm}0.72%$ (3 h), $17.4%{\pm}1.13%$ (6 h) and $9.3%{\pm}0.46%$ (3 h), $10.0%{\pm}0.68%$ (6 h) in WB and RB, respectively. Cellulose and hemicellulose content was reduced up to $15.6%{\pm}0.85%$ (WB), $15.8%{\pm}2.20%$ (RB) and $36.6%{\pm}2.42%$ (WB), $15.9%{\pm}3.53%$ (RB), respectively after 2nd fermentation of 6 h. Conclusion: Two-step fermentation process improved the quality of the brans for their use in poultry feed.

Performance of Crossbred Gilts Fed on Diets with Higher Levels of Fat and Fibre through Addition of Rice Bran

  • Crossbred gilts (n=54) of about $26.38{\pm}0.85kg$ body weight and 25 weeks of age were randomly divided into 18 groups of 3 animals each. Three dietary treatments viz., $T_1$, $T_2$ and $T_3$ were formulated. The treatment $T_1$ containing maize grain (35%) and wheat bran (47%) along with soybean meal and fish meals served as control diet. Rice bran (RB) was selected as a single source of fat (13.02%) and fibre (17.12%), which was gradually increased in diets $T_2$ (41%) and $T_3$ (82%) replacing maize grain and wheat bran of $T_1$ at 50% and 100% in the diets $T_2$ and $T_3$, respectively. The fat and fibre levels of the diets were thus 3.46 and 5.24, 9.31and 9.69 and 11.61and 13.26% in $T_1$, $T_2$ and $T_3$, respectively. All the diets, however, contained almost similar concentration of CP (18.35${\pm}0.29%$). Each dietary treatment was offered to six replicated groups of 3 piglets in following completely randomized design and feeding was continued for 112 days during the growing phase. Growth, feed utilization, reproductive performance, nutrient utilization and different blood biochemical parameters were studied. Growth rate, feed intake and feed conversion were lower (p<0.01) in $T_3$ in comparison to $T_1$ or $T_2$. Digestibility of all the nutrients except EE was reduced significantly (p<0.01) in $T_3$. Serum glucose level decreased (p<0.01), whereas the urea and cholesterol concentration in the blood increased (p<0.01) in $T_3$. The duration of estrus of pigs fed diet containing 82% RB ($T_3$) was highly variable within the group, but all the groups showed statistically similar duration of estrous. Feed cost per unit gain was found to be comparable between control ($T_1$) and $T_2$ group. The results indicated that RB can be included up to 41% in swine diets replacing 50% of maize and wheat bran. Higher concentrations of ether extract and fibre beyond 9.31 and 9.69% in diet had detrimental effect on growth, nutrient utilization and reproductive performance.

  • '신고' 배 실생묘의 수체 생육 특성에 관한 결과를 통해서, 충분히 부숙된 유기질 비료의 시용은 뿌리 생체중 및 세근의 양이 많아지고 근 활력이 높아졌을 뿐만 아니라 지상부 수체 생육이 좋아지는 효과를 나타냈다. 과원 내 유목묘의 궁극적인 목적은 왕성한 수체 생장으로 과실 생산을 조기에 달성하는 것인데, 본 실험 결과를 통해서 유기질 비료 처리로 초기 과원재배의 궁극적인 목적을 어느 정도 이룰 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 또한, 건강한 수체 생산으로 응애의 피해에 의한 낙엽률이나 엽 피해도를 감소시키는 결과를 가져와서 병충해에 대한 내성을 제고함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 토양 내 충분히 부숙된 유기질 복합 퇴비 시용은 빠른 시일 내에 수체 생장과 안정성을 확보할 수 있다는 측면으로, 육묘장이나 기타 과수 실생묘에 이용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다

Effect of Additive on the Chemical Composition of Tra Catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) By-product Silages and Their Nutritive Value for Pigs

  • Two experiments were conducted to determine i) the fermentation characteristics of catfish by-product (C) ensiled with rice bran (RB) or sugarcane molasses (M) in different ratios, and ii) the digestibility of the silages in growing pigs. In the ensiling experiment, there were three ratios of C, ensiled with RB or M, of 8:2, 7:3 and 6:4 (wet basis for C and air-dry basis for RB and M). The six treatments were CRB8:2, CRB7:3, CRB6:4, CM8:2, CM7:3 and CM6:4, with 3 replications per treatment and seven sampling times. The pH of CRB7:3 and CRB6:4 decreased (p<0.05) from the first week and stayed stable until 8 weeks of ensiling, but the pH did not decrease in CRB8:2. The pH of CM8:2, CM7:3 and CM6:4 decreased rapidly from the first week until week 8. Dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) contents were slightly lower when catfish by-product was ensiled with RB than with M. Ammonia content in all treatments increased (p<0.05) during ensiling. Lactic acid content in silages with molasses increased from the first week, with the highest value at week 4. However, the lactic acid content in CRB8:2 did not increase with time and had the lowest value of all treatments. Acetic acid proportions of total volatile fatty acids were low at day 0, with the highest value at day 7, decreasing slowly until 8 weeks. The butyric acid proportion was highest at day 0 and decreased up to week 8. The proportion of propionic acid increased during ensiling. The digestibility experiment had a 4${\times}$4 Latin-square design and included 4 castrated crossbreed (Yorkshire${\times}$Landrace) male pigs fed four diets. The basal diet (BD) included rice bran, broken rice and maize meal, and the other three diets included fish meal (FMD) or catfish by-product ensiled with rice bran (CRBD) or sugarcane molasses (CMD). The silages chosen were those which gave the best results in the ensiling experiment for each additive. The coefficient of total tract apparent digestibility (CTTAD) of DM and organic matter (OM) was not significantly different among treatments. The CTTAD of CP was not different among the silage diets, but was lower in BD (p<0.01). The CTTAD of ether extract (EE) was higher in the catfish by-product silage diets than in FMD and BD. There was no significant difference in the digestibility of DM, OM, CP and EE between the fish meal and the by-product silages. In conclusion, catfish by-product can be successfully preserved by ensiling. Moreover, the total tract apparent digestibility of OM, CP and EE in ensiled catfish by-product was comparable with that of fish meal.

Effects of Rice Bran, Flax Seed, and Sunflower Seed on Growth Performance, Carcass Characteristics, Fatty Acid Composition, Free Amino Acid and Peptide Contents, and Sensory Evaluations of Native Korean Cattle (Hanwoo)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation with rice bran, flax seed, or sunflower seed to finishing native Korean cattle (Hanwoo) on growth performances, carcass characteristics, fatty acid composition, free amino acid and peptide contents, and sensory evaluations of Longissimus muscle (LM). A total of 39 Hanwoo steers (average age of 22.2 mo and average body weight (BW) of 552.2 kg) were randomly divided into Control, rice bran (RB), flax seed (FS), or Sunflower seed (SS) groups. The steers were group fed for 273 d until they reached an average age of 31.2 mo. Final BW was 768.2, 785.8, 786.2, and 789.0 kg, and average daily gain was 0.79, 0.85, 0.82, and 0.84 kg for the Control, RS, FS, and SS groups, respectively (p>0.05). Fat thickness of the FS group (19.8 mm) was greater (p<0.05) than that of the other groups. Final yield grade converted into numerical values was 2.0 for the RB group, 1.7 for the Control and SS groups, and 1.4 for the FS group. Marbling degrees for the Control, SS, RB, and FS groups were 5.3, 5.1, 4.7, and 4.6, respectively. Percentages of palmitic acid ($C_{16:0}$), stearic acid ($C_{18:0}$), and arachidic acid ($C_{20:0}$) in the LM were not different among the groups. Palmitoleic ($C_{16:1}$) acid was higher (p<0.05) in the SS group. The concentration of oleic acid was highest (p<0.05) in the Control group (47.73%). The level of linolenic acid ($C_{18:3}$) was 2.3 times higher (p<0.05) in the FS group compared to the other groups. Methionine concentration was (p<0.05) higher in FS (1.7 mg/100 g) and SS (1.2 mg/100 g) steers than in the Control or RB groups. Glutamic acid and ${\alpha}$-aminoadipic acid (${\alpha}$-AAA) contents were (p<0.05) higher in the FS group compared to the other groups. LM from the FS group had numerically higher (p>0.05) scores for flavor, umami, and overall palatability in sensory evaluations. In conclusion, supplementation of flax seed to diets of finishing Hanwoo steers improved sensory evaluations which might have been caused by increases in flavor related amino acids such as methionine, glutamic acid and ${\alpha}$-AAA and peptides, anserine and carnosine, and their complex reactions.

Salmonella Gallinarum 감염닭의 대식세포에서 표고버섯 균사체 발효 미강생물전환소재에 의한 면역조절효과 (Immunomodulation by Bioprocessed Polysaccharides from Lentinus edodes Mycelia Cultures with Rice Bran in the Salmonella Gallinarum-infected Chicken Macrophages)

  • 본 연구에서는, 표고버섯 균사체 발효 생물전환공법으로 생산된 미강생물전환소재(BPP-RB)가 가금티푸스의 주요 원인균인 S. Gallinarum에 감염된 닭 유래 대식세포주 HD-11에 미치는 효과를 조사하였다. 그 결과, 미강생물전환소재 추출액은 S. Gallinarum 277에 대한 직접적인 성장억제 효과를 보여주지 않았으며, 총단백질 및 분비단밸질 발현 양상에 어떠한 변화도 유도하지 못하였다. 하지만, 미강생물전환소재 추출액은 (i) HD-11 대식세포의 탐식 능력(phagocytic activity)을 활성화하였고, (ii) Th1-type cytokines(tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$, interleukin $(IL)-1{\beta}$, iNOS)과 immunosuppressive cytokine IL-10의 발현 증가를 유도하였으며, (iii) Th2-type cytokines (IL-4, IL-6)의 발현은 감소시키는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과를 종합하면, 미강생물전환소재는 가금 농장에서 가금티푸스 및 다른 Salmonella종의 감염을 예방하기 위한 사료첨가제로서의 가능성을 가지고 있다고 사료된다.

발효된 미강의 항산화 효과 및 미백 효과 (Whitening and Antioxidative Effect of Rice Bran Fermented by Bacillus subtilis)

  • 이 연구에서는 천연 항산화소재와 미백소재 개발을 위하여 미강을 Bacillus subtilis에 접종하여 $40^{\circ}C$에서 36 h 동안 발효한 미강추출(RFB)과 80 % ethanol을 이용한 미강추출물(RB)을 사용하여 연구하였다. 추출물의 free radical 소거활성, superoxide radical 소거활성, hydroxyl radical 소거활성은 농도 $100 \;{\mu}L$/mL에서 가장 큰 활성을 나타내었고 리놀산을 이용한 지질과산화 억제 활성 또한 농도 $100 \;{\mu}L$/mL에서 가장 큰 활성을 나타내었고, RB에 비하여 RFB의 더 높은 항산화 능을 확인하였다. Mushroom tyrosinase의 활성 저해효과는 $100 \;{\mu}L$/mL 농도에서 mushroom tyrosinase 의 활성을 80 % 저해하였으며 이는 vitamin C에 비해 더 높은 활성을 나타내었다. 그러므로 우리는 미강 발효추출물이 우수한 항산화와 미백 효능을 갖는 화장품 소재로서 개발 가능성이 클 것으로 기대된다.

Dietary beet pulp decreases taurine status in dogs fed low protein diet

  • Background: It is known that large dogs who are fed lamb and rice diets are at increased risk to develop taurine-deficiency-induced dilated cardiomyopathy. Since dogs obligatorily conjugate bile acids (BA) with taurine, we determined whether rice bran (RB) or other fibers (cellulose; CL, beet pulp; BP) would affect BA excretion and/or the taurine status of dogs. Results: Eighteen medium/large mixed-breed dogs were given purified diets containing CL, BP, or RB for 12 weeks. Taurine concentrations in plasma and whole blood were significantly decreased at week 12. The BP group, compared to the CL or RB groups, showed significantly lower taurine concentrations in plasma ($6.5{\pm}0.5$ vs $20.4{\pm}3.9$ and $13.1{\pm}2.0{\mu}mol/L$, respectively, P < 0.01, $mean{\pm}SEM$) and in whole blood ($79{\pm}10$ vs $143{\pm}14$ and $127{\pm}14{\mu}mol/L$, respectively, P < 0.01), lower apparent protein digestibility ($81.9{\pm}0.6$ vs $88.8{\pm}0.6$ and $88.1{\pm}1.2%$, respectively, P < 0.01), and higher BA excretions ($5.6{\pm}0.1$ vs $3.4{\pm}0.5$ and $3.4{\pm}0.4{\mu}mol/g$ feces, respectively, P < 0.05) at week 12. Conclusions: These results do not support the hypothesis that RB is likely to be a primary cause of lamb meal and rice diets, increasing the risk of taurine deficiency in large dogs. However these indicate that BP may contribute to a decrease taurine status in dogs by increasing excretion of fecal BA and decreasing protein digestibility, thus decreasing the bioavailability of sulfur amino acids, the precursors of taurine.
