  • The concept of Smart-Homes is becoming more and more popular. It is anticipated that Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology will play a major role in such environments. We can find many previously proposed schemes that focus solely on: authentication between the RFID tags and readers, and user privacy protection from malicious readers. There has also been much talk of a very popular RFID application: a refrigerator/bookshelf that can scan and list out the details of its items on its display screen. Realizing such an application is not as straight forward as it seems to be, especially in securely deploying such RFID-based applications in a smart home environment. Therefore this paper describes some of the RFID-based applications that are applicable to smart home environments. We then identify their related privacy and security threats and security requirements and also propose a secure approach, where RFID-tagged consumer items, RFID-reader enabled appliances (e.g., refrigerators), and RFID-based applications would securely interact among one another. At the moment our approach is just a conceptual idea, but it sheds light on very important security issues related to RFID-based applications that are beneficial for consumers.

  • Nowadays, to realize ubiquitous computing environment, many research activities have been going on within various kinds of research domains including automatic identification sensor network, home network, telematics and so on. Especially, RFID middleware that supports the aggregation of RFID tag data, control and management, and the integration with legacy systems has recently gained a lot of attention. Meanwhile, EPCglobal defined an ALE(Application Level Events) standard specification, which exists between RFID readers and applications, and substitutes the previous systems called Savant. In the specification internal structures and implementation technologies of ALE are not mentioned and only external interfaces are defined. This approach easies the verification of standard compliance and inter-operability of the layer. In this paper, we present the design of ALE-compliant RFID middleware systems that process RFID tag data efficiently.

  • RFID technology uses communication through the use of radio waves to transfer data between a reader and an electronic tag attached to an object for the purpose of identification and tracking. RFID technology can be applied to the various service areas such as, position determination technology, remote processing management and information exchange between objects by collecting, storing, processing, and tracing their informations from the tag attached to the objects using electronic wave by recognizing the information and environment of those objects. However, to revitalize these various services, it is important to test the RFID tag performance. But There are few instructions which have and hold the RFID emulator technology for organizing the RFID international test environment. Also there are not many manufacturing companies which recognize about the exact RFID test standard and requirements for the International Standards. In this paper, a construction of Tag Performance test environments and test methods are suggested which are required by EPCglobal or ISO/IEC. Details about RFID Tag performance test items proposed by ISO/IEC FDIS 18046-3 are explained, performed RFID Tag performance test through the performing test against each measured item, and draw a result for the RFID Tag performance of International Standards.

  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of Identification Technologies today. Many of the large retailers in the United States and Europe have established requirements for their suppliers to use RFID technology in 2004. Recently Airbus and Boeing have announced plans to develop a single RFID specification to be used by both companies to use RFID tags to identify commercial aircraft parts. However, it does not mean the end of barcode and it may take several years before the wide adoption of the RFID. This is because a precise business process reengineering is required with technology itself to get the potential benefits of RFID. In this paper, we introduce an RFID enabled air baggage handling process which has been developed and tested recently. We believe our study would give a good guideline for further researches on RFID application in the aviation industry.

  • The creation of a RFID/USN environment has increased rapidly due to the activation of ubiquitous security environment suitable for RFID/USN environment but has failed to comply with the speed of security threats. Therefore, this thesis presents MSNR suitable for RFID/USN. The MSNR presented showed an increase in the processing rate of 1.3 times compared to the existing AES and showed 2 fold improvement in performance in terms of the overall system efficiency. Therefore, MSNR is considered to be a password algorithm suitable to overcome the conditions of environmental resource conditions, such as RFID/USN.

  • Most of the known RFID applications are derived from RFID technology and its functionalities not business analysis or requirements, so that companies may not obtain real competitive edges by implementing RFID application systems. Developing successful RFID applications is one of the key elements for prevailing RFID use by industries. Research objective is to propose an effective methodology for developing RFID applications based on analyzing business processes. The approach is designed to figure out both technical and business requirements related to RFID applications based on BPR (Business process reengineering) and ISP (Information strategy planning) methodologies. To verify the effectiveness of our approach, we applied the proposed approach to real field cases. As RFID technologies get flourished, the proposed approach is expected to play a meaningful role as an effective tool for developing new RFID applications.
