  • The purpose of this study is to identify the trends and features of existing articles on work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD), and to suggest the direction for future work. Articles on WMSD were reviewed and analyzed by research objects and characteristics. This paper describes a number of issues related to strategies and practices which were done in order to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders; 1) trends and characteristics of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, 2) legal enforcement related to systems preventing WMSD, 3) workplace assessment methods and guidelines for manual material handling, 4) ergonomic intervention, ergonomics program and its effectiveness. A list of recommendations presented in this study can be used to provide a baseline for the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

  • The energy efficiency and environment-friendly aspect of the railway system would be superior to other on-land transportation systems. In a preliminary feasibility study stage, the energy efficiency and problems related with environment are usually not considered. Selection of optimal railway line is taken into consideration include of the purpose of railway, geographical features and facility of management. The railway Alignment which could be reasons of environmental problems are focused and studied in this paper. This study performed opinions of specialists, checking of industrial environment, analysis of bid guideline to select the optimal line and executed AHP method to make quality model and choose weight factors. The investment for railway systems could be encouraged by the considering of main environmental elements evaluated with the modified noise and vibration standard for environment-friendly railway construction.

  • Polycystic kidney disease is defined as a heritable disorder with diffuse involvement of both kidneys without dysplasia other than cysts. The major clinical entities of autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease have a considerable overlap in clinical presentations and radiographic features in the pediatric population. We experienced three cases of autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease of neonate who expired within 24 hours due to respiratory difficulty and the other case was detected by gross hematuria. So we report four cases with brief review of literatures.

  • Cancer cells reprogram cellular metabolism to support the malignant features of tumors, such as rapid growth and proliferation. The cancer promoting effects of metabolic reprogramming are found in many aspects: generating additional energy, providing more anabolic molecules for biosynthesis, and rebalancing cellular redox states in cancer cells. Metabolic pathways are considered the pipelines to supply metabolic cofactors of epigenetic modifiers. In this regard, cancer metabolism, whereby cellular metabolite levels are greatly altered compared to normal levels, is closely associated with cancer epigenetics, which is implicated in many stages of tumorigenesis. In this review, we provide an overview of cancer metabolism and its involvement in epigenetic modifications and suggest that the metabolic adaptation leading to epigenetic changes in cancer cells is an important non-genetic factor for tumor progression, which cooperates with genetic causes. Understanding the interaction of metabolic reprogramming with epigenetics in cancers may help to develop novel or highly improved therapeutic strategies that target cancer metabolism.

  • A keratoacanthoma is a rapidly growing cutaneous tumor that spontaneously involutes in most instances. A giant keratoacanthoma is a rare variant and are characterized by lesions larger than 20 mm in diameter. We report a 56-year-old man with a rapidly growing tumor of the right cheek, which was diagnosed as keratoacanthoma. The mass was excised completely under general anesthesia, followed by Limberg flap for reconstruction. Intraoperative frozen section histology suggested the lesion to be a well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, whereas final histopathology was consistent with keratoacanthoma. We herein report the first case of a giant keratoacanthoma treated with surgical excision in Korea and discuss the clinical and histopathological features of keratoacanthoma, with a review of the literature.

  • The Iowa Chautauqua Program has provided effective staff development for over 2,700 K-12 science teachers during the past two decades. This is a review of the features of the program, its instructional staff, and a description of the outcomes as disclosed from evaluative studies conducted by staff, teacher participants, doctoral students, and outside evaluators. Examples of outcomes are included as revealed from the qualitative studies reported in newsletters, published papers, dissertations, annual staff reports, and evidences of success reported to accrediting groups. The Chautauqua stresses student-centeredness, constructivist learning, and the visions of reform featured in the National Science Education Standards.

  • Sleep-related behaviors observed in parasomnias can result in serious injuries of patients and/or spouses. Parasomnia is defined as undesirable physical or behavioral phenomenon occurring during sleep. If these disorders are accurately diagnosed, effective treatments are available. Often, these disorders can be even cured. Environmental management for patient and/or spouse safety and good sleep hygiene are the most recommended for individuals behaving abnormally during sleep. The aim of this article is to review the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of several sleep-related behavior disorders.

  • Intravenous leiomyomatosis of the uterus is a rare tumor that presents with benign histological features. It is characterized by intravenous proliferation of smooth muscle cells originating from the uterus that sometimes extends to the inferior vena cava and the right heart. It may spread elsewhere, usually to the lung. The first case of intravenous leiomyomatosis was described in 1896 by Birsh-Hirshfeld, and only a few cases have been reported since then. Its pathogenesis and optimal treatment have not yet been established. We report a case of metastasizing leiomyomatosis found to have multiple nodular densities in both lower lung fields seven months after myomectomy. In another case the leiomyomatosis was confined to the pelvis after a laparoscopy assisted vaginal hysterectomy, the patient is alive without evidence of disease. Here we provide a detailed report of two cases of intravenous leiomyomatosis of the uterus with a brief review of the literature.

  • This paper presents an improved method of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) when customers are to select the best automobile purchase models. In order to support group decisions and as a different procedure of the conventional AHP, we combine the AHP model with a spreadsheet model that applies the Likert's rating scheme to each alternative. We only consider individual pairwise comparison matrices where the consistency ratio (C.R.) is less than or equal to 0.2. Finally, we regard the weight of each decision maker as a reciprocal number of C.R. As a case study we prioritize three passenger cars of medium size in the domestic market. The major evaluation criteria include:exterior or interior features, performance, safety, pricing, salesman, and after service.

  • Like in other trade negotiations covering comprehensive sectors, it is reported that KOREA-US FTA tried so-called 'package deal' at the last minutes, when telecom services sector was positioned at the forefront and expected to partly play a role in buffering US' market-opening pressure on other sectors. Before everything else, Korean negotiators had to enhance the value of foreign ownership deregulation in telecom services sector as a leverage in the course of KOREA-US FTA negotiations. In addition, since foreign ownership change, if any, is highly sensitive issue either politically or policy-wise, it seems very difficult to find a breakthrough. Focusing on foreign ownership regulation in telecom services sector, this paper seeks how Korea has developed its strategic reasoning for negotiations and evaluates the outcomes of KOREA-US FTA negotiations.
