  • The production of oxygen and hydrogen from solar water splitting has been considered to be an ultimate solution for energy and environmental issues, and over the past few years, nano-sized semiconducting metal oxides alone and with graphene have been shown to have great promise for use in photocatalytic water splitting. It is challenging to find ideal materials for photoelectrochemical water splitting, and these have limited commercial applicability due to critical factors, including their physico-chemical properties, the rate of charge-carrier recombination and limited light absorption. This review article discusses these main features, and recent research progress and major factors affect the performance of the water splitting reaction. The mechanism behind these interactions in transition metal oxides and graphene based nano-structured semiconductors upon illumination has been discussed in detail, and such characteristics are relevant to the design of materials with a superior photocatalytic response towards UV and visible light.

  • Surgery, Chung-Ang Unviersity College of Medicine, Yong-San Hospital, Seoul, Korea Apoptosis is considered to be a programmed and controlled mode of cell death, whereas necrosis has long been described as uncontrolled and accidental cell death resulting from extremely harsh conditions. In the following review, we will discuss the features and physiological meanings as well as recent advances in the elucidation of the signaling pathways of both apoptotic cell death and programmed necrotic cell death.

  • Advanced Pressurized Reactor 1400(APR1400), which is a standard evolutionary advanced light water reactor(ALWR), has been developed from 1992 as one of long-term Government Project(G-7). The APR-1400 is designed to operate at the rated output of 4000MWt to produce an electric power output of around 1450MWe. Due to the increased electric power, In Nuclear Power plant huge quantities of heat are generated in the thermo-dynamic process used for producing electrical energy. So, There is considerationly additional cooling, Heat transfer area and increased cooling water of Heat Exchanger which take care of the different smaller cooling duties within the nuclear power plant. We review applying to PRE instead of Shell-and-Tube Heat exchanger. In this paper, we describe the major design features of PRE, Comparison between a PHE and a Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchanger, and then Applicability of Plate Heat Exchanger in Nuclear Power Plant Component Cooling water systems.

  • Patients with the pusher syndrome show severe misperception of their own upright body orientation although visual vestibular processing is almost intact. They recognize their body as oriented upright when it is actually tilted nearly 20 degrees to the affected side. These patients resist any attempts to passively correct their tilted body posture towards an earth vertical upright orientation. They use the non-affected side arm and/or leg to actively push towards the affected side. Pusher syndrome patients have different prognoses and symptoms than general stroke patients without pusher syndrome. Pusher syndrome patients have a poor prognosis, so they need a long duration of treatment. Therefore, accurate diagnosis and proper treatment are important. In this study, we reviewed the symptoms, causes, evaluation, and treatment for pusher syndrome.

  • Monte Carlo simulation methods are especially useful in studying a variety of problems difficult to calculate by experimental or analytical approaches. Nowadays, they are extensively applied to simulate nuclear medicine instrumentations such as single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) for assisting system design and optimizing imaging and processing protocols. The goal of this paper is to address the practical issues, a potential user of Monte Carlo simulations for nuclear medicine can encounter, to help them to choose a code. This review introduces the different types of Monte Carlo codes currently available for nuclear medicine, comments main features and properties for a code to be proper for a given purpose, and discusses current research trends in Monte Carlo codes.

  • In 1997 for the first time, survivin was described by Amborsini et al. as an anti-apoptotic protein. Subsequent studies revealed that survivin is a multifunctional protein that plays critical roles in several crucial cell processes such as apoptosis, cell cycle, chromosome movement, mitosis and cellular stress responses. Moreover, it's overexpression in cancer cells versus normal cells is associated with chemotherapy resistance, increased tumor recurrence, and shorter patient survival. All of these features make survivin a promising target for cancer therapy. Here, we review the potential characteristics of survivin as a tumor marker.

  • Canthocamptus morimotoi Miura, a cave-dwelling harpacticoid species belonging to C. mirabilis species group, is fully redescribed and illustrated on the basis of the material newly collected from the type locality, Simpigul Cave, South Korea. C. morimotoi is the only genuine subterranean species in the C, mirabilis group, and claimed to be a relict species restricted to its type locality. The sexually isomorphic ornamentation of the outer terminal seta on the distal exopodal segment of male leg 4 and the well-developed spines on the disteromedial corner of anal somite are the most significant features differentiating this species from ther members of the mirabilis-group.

  • Recently, interest in detoxification therapies is increasing. Coffee enema has been most frequently used as one of detoxification therapies. However, there is lack of scientific basis for coffee enema, regarding its clinical efficacy and safety respectively. This study aimed to produce the general features of coffee enema such as definition, protocols, clinical applications and efficacies, and side effects. Total 37 articles coffee enema were collected from 7 databases including PubMed, and reviewed thoroughly. The majority of papers were review studies or case reports for effects/side-effects of coffee enema. The quality of papers was generally poor, and no randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) was exist. This study shows the current status of coffee enema-related study, and suggests the demand for RCT study to develop the evidence-based detoxification therapy using coffee enema.
