  • Buffer overflow is one of the most prevalent and critical internet security vulnerabilities. Recently, various methods to prevent buffer overflow attacks have been investigated, but they are still difficult to apply to real applications due to their run-time overhead. This paper suggests an efficient rewrite method to prevent buffer-overflow attacks only with lower costs by generating a redundant copy of the return address in stack frame and comparing return address to copied return address. Not to be overwritten by the attack data the new copy will have the lower address number than local buffers have. In addition, for a safer execution environment, every vulnerable function call is transformed during the rewriting procedure.

  • Studies of cardiopulmonary function and acid-base balance were performed on 29 dogs during control period, during oligemic hypotension and following return of blood to the animals. Intravenous morphine and local anesthesia were used. Fifteen of the 29 animals survived the complete experiment. The 14 animals that failed to survive the experimental period died between 15 to 90 minutes after the onset of bleeding. The results were as follows. 1. The heart rate increased after the onset of bleeding and failed to return to control level following reinfusion. Stroke volume decreased markedly after bleeding and failed to recover after return of blood from the reservoir. Cardiac output also decreased during oligemic hypotension and was maintained at this level after re-infusion. Total peripheral resistance decreased significantly immediately after bleeding, however it increased soon over the pre-bleeding level. Central venous pressure decreased after the onset of bleeding and remained at lower level for the rest of the experimental period. Arterial blood pressure, clown to 40-45 mmHg by acute hemorrhage, was elevated near to control level. Left ventricular work decreased tremendously during oligemic hypotension and failed to return to control level with the re-infusion of blood. Hematocrit value showed no significant decrease after bleeding and increased after re-infusion. Hemoglobin decreased after the onset of bleeding and recovered to control value after re-infusion. 2. The respiratory rate fell rapidly after bleeding from 124 to 29 and remained at this lower level for the remainder of the experiment. The tidal volume increased after bleeding and was maintained at this level for the remainder of the experiment. The respiratory minute volume showed no significant changes throughout the experimental period. Oxygen consumption fell lightly in all animals during oligemic hypotension and returned to normal levels following re-infusion. Arterial oxygen content and arterial oxygen saturation decreased following bleeding and the values returned to normal levels after the return of blood from the reservoir The arterio-venous oxygen difference increased after the onset of bleeding. It failed to return to normal values following re-infusion. Arterial $Pco_2$ decreased in all animals after the beginning of the bleeding. Partial pressure of $Co_2$ continued to fall until re-infusion, after which the values returned toward normal. Animals became acidotic. The pH fell to lower level following bleeding. Lactic acid and lactate: pyruvate ratio also increased during same period. Arterial pH and lactic acid failed to return to control value and lactate: pyruvate ratio increased more after re-infusion. Sodium bicarbonate decreased after bleeding and returned to control value following re-infusion.

  • When carbon-filled rubber specimens are subjected to cyclic loading, they do not return to their initial state after loading and subsequent unloading, but exhibit a residual strain or permanent deformation. We propose a specific form of the pseudo-elastic energy function to represent cyclic loading for incompressible, isotropic materials with stress softening and residual strain. The essence of the pseudo-elasticity theory is that material behaviour in the primary loading path is described by a common elastic strain energy function, and in unloading, reloading or secondary unloading paths by a different strain energy function. The switch between strain energy functions is controlled by the incorporation of a damage variable into the strain energy function. An extra term is added to describe the permanent deformation. The finite element implementation of the proposed model is presented in this paper. All parameters in the proposed model and elastic law can be easily estimated based on experimental data. The numerical analyses show that the results are in good agreement with experimental data.

  • The PT program provides relief to most patients with symptom of TOS. So the purpose of our study is to evaluate a effects of PT program in patients with TOS. PT program included orthopaedic manual therapy with the aim of restoring the function of the upper thoracic aperture is to be recommended, and long-term following is advisable. 1. Mean treatment duration was over an 11.4 day(range 4~24). 2. At the follow-up evaluation, 88.1% of the patients were satisfied with the effects of their therapy. 3. 73% of the patients returened to work after PT and 88% of the patients carried through the recommendations given at discharge during follow up. 4. Normalized grip strength and Tinel' sign predicted patient satisfaction(p< .001) and return to work(p< .001). 5. Return to work was more often successful if the work was sedentary rather than heavy (p< .05).

  • Applying and extending some preceding researches, this paper proposes a map of Italian extreme winds assigning the reference velocity, i.e., the wind velocity averaged over 10 minutes, at 10 m height, in a flat open terrain, with 50 years mean return period, depending on the site and the altitude. Furthermore, an objective criterion is formulated by which the actual values of the local wind velocity are given as a function of the reference velocity. The study has been carried out in view of the revision of the Italian Standards dealing with safety and loads and the introduction of the aeolic Italian map into Eurocode 1.

  • We study the scaling of the price fluctuation in the Korean housing market. From the numerical analysis, we show that the normalized return distribution of the housing price, P(r), has a fat-tail and is well approximated by a power-law, $P(r){\sim}r^{-({\alpha}+1)}$, with ${\alpha}{\simeq}3$ for the whole data set. However, if we divide the data into groups based on the trading patterns, then the value of ${\alpha}$ for positive tail and negative tail can be different depending on the trading patterns. We also find that the autocorrelation function of the housing price decays much slower than that of the stock exchange markets, which shows a unique feature of the housing market distinguished from the other financial systems.

  • An egg grading machine is composed of many mechanisms of which functions are to carry eggs to the bucket in that sensors are located to categorize eggs by their weight, to transfer eggs from the basket of packer holder to the mold tray, to feed the mold tray dispenser after egg chairs are filled with eggs. This paper deals with the analysis and new design of packer holder mechanism of which function is transfer eggs vertically from the bucket conveyor to the mold tray dispenser. Egg is fragile to impact so in designing packer holder mechanism it is necessary to estimate moving speed, acceleration and impact when eggs are touched by any links of mechanism and mold tray dispenser. A new packer holder mechanism is proposed in this paper, which use quick return mechanism composed of 6 links with pin and contact joints.

  • To support some knowledge in planning irrigation system, short or long-term irrigation scheduling or determining irrigation reservoir capacity, it is necessary to estimate peak irrigation requirements and seasonal distribution of water demands for various return periods. In this paper Dry Day Index and Probable Evapotranspiration were evaluated to decide seasonal consumptive use of paddy rice for a design year using several decades' daily rainfall data and 5 years'('82~'86) actual evapotranspiration data, respectively. To obtain Dry Day Index that is defined as the number of probable dry days for a given period, Slade unsymmetrical distribution function was adopted. Dry Day Index was analysed for 5 and 10-day intervals. Each of them was evaluated with return periods of 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20 year. Their singnificance was tested by X$^2$ method. Based on these values, the Probable Evaportanspiration, that is the average daily ET both in dry days and rainy days during a given period, was estimated. Crop coefficient was also determined by the modified Penman equation proposed by Doorenbos & Pruitt.

  • EPS(Electric Power Steering) systems have many advantages over traditional hydraulic power steering systems in space efficiency engine efficiency and environmental compatibility. In this paper an EPS system control logic using a torque map is proposed. The main function of the EPS system is to reduce the steering torque exerted by a driver by assist of an electric motor. Vehcile speed steering torque and steering wheel angle are measured and fed back to the EPS control system where appropriate assist torque is generated to assist the operator's steering effort. Another capability of the EPS system for easy adaptation to different steering feels via simple tuning is demonstrated by the experiments. It will be also verified that the EPS system can also improve damping and return performance of the steering wheel by control of the assist motor.

  • In this paper, the input impedance of coaxial fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna located inside rectangular waveguide is calculated by using the cavity model and the mode excited in the waveguide by the patch antenna. The return loss and efficiency of the patch antennas as a function of feed position in. free space and in waveguide are calculated and compared. The maximum efficiency of the antennas in waveguide and in free space are obtained at different feed position.
