A capital investment problem is essentially one of determining whether the anticipated cash inflows from a proposed project are sufficiently attractive to invest funds in the project. The net present value(NPV) criterion and internal rate of return(IRR) criterion are widely used as means of making investment decisions. A positive NPV means the equivalent worth of the inflows is greater than the equivalent worth of outflows, so, the project makes profit. Business people are familiar with rates of return because they all borrow money to finance ventures, even if the money they borrow is their own. Thus they are apt to use the IRR in preference to the NPV. The IRR can be defined as the discount rate that causes the net present value of a cash flow to equal zero. Why the project are accepted if the project's IRR is greater than the investor's minimum attractive rate of return\ulcorner Against the NPV, the definition cannot distinctly explain the concept of the IRR as decision criterion. We present a new definition of the IRR as the ratio of profit on the invested capital.
This paper reports an experimental study on the performance evaluation of air-to-air heat exchanger with rotary type newly developed in this study. Air flow rate is varied from 10 to 120 m3/h. The range of RPM of the porous rotating discs mounted inside the heat exchanger unit is 0 to 50. The temperature of the return air side is set by adjusting heat supply at heater. The material of the porous rotating discs is cooper and its thickness is 1.0 mm. The heat transfer rate increased with the increase in air flow rate. It was found that the heat transfer rate, as the temperature of the return air side was increased, was improved due to higher temperature difference. The heat exchange performance increased with the increase in the temperature of the return air side at the conditions of the same RPM. The sensible heat exchange efficiency was maximum 68 to 76 percent, and enthalpy exchange efficiency 64 to 74 percent.

Heating energy was measured in an apartment housing unit with a district heating system, varying the kind of hot water distributors. Ondol coils passing through a living room raised the temperature of the room where the heating was turned off. Including this characteristic of Ondol heating into the modeling, we performed simulations and showed a verification by comparison with the results of measurements. As a result, a main flow control method, which changes hot water flow rate supplied to a housing unit according to the thermal load, can reduce the supplied flow rate and lower the return temperature, compared with a constant flow method. That can result in decreased heat loss in utility-pipe conduits even though the heating energy supplied is almost the same. An outdoor reset control that raises the temperature of the supplied hot water if the outdoor temperature falls has the effect of a quicker response in heating than the reduced flow rate and return temperature.

Irrigation water supplied to the paddy field is consumed in the amount of evapotranspiration, underground infiltration, and natural and artificial drainage from the paddy field. Irrigation return flow is defined as the excess of irrigation water that is not consumed by evapotranspiration and crop, and which returns to an aquifer by infiltration or drainage. The research on estimating the return flow play an important part in water circulation management of agricultural watershed. However, the return flow rate calculations are needs because the result of calculating return flow is different depending on irrigation channel water loss, analysis methods, and local characteristics. In this study, the irrigation return flow rate of agricultural watershed was estimated using the monitoring and SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) modeling from 2017 to 2020 for the Heungeop reservoir located in Wonju, Gangwon-do. SWMM modeling was performed by weather data and observation data, water of supply and drainage were estimated as the result of SWMM model analysis. The applicability of the SWMM model was verified using RMSE and R-square values. The result of analysis from 2017 to 2020, the average annual quick return flow rate was 53.1%. Based on these results, the analysis of water circulation characteristics can perform, it can be provided as basic data for integrated water management.
In this study, we tried to present a method for calculating the amount of regression using a watershed modeling method that can simulate the hydrological mechanism of water balance analysis and agricultural water based on watershed unit. Using the soil water assessment tool (SWAT), a watershed water balance analysis was conducted considering the simulation of paddy fields for the Manbongcheon Standard Basin (97.34 km2), which is a representative agricultural area of the Yeongsan river basin. Before evaluating return flow, the SWAT was calibrated and validated using the daily streamflow observation data at Naju streamflow gauge station (NJ). The coefficient of determination (R2), Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE), Root-Mean-Square Error (RMSE) of NJ were 0.73, 0.70, 0.64 mm/day. Based on the calibration results for three years (2015-2017), the quick return flow and the return rate compared to the water supply amount for the irrigation period (April 1 to September 30) were calculated, and the average return flow rate was 53.4%. The proposed method of this study may be used as foundation data to optimal agricultural water supply plan for rational watershed management.
The purpose of this research is to analyze the characteristics of flow rate distribution in hot-water piping networks in the apartment building. A 14-story apartment house was selected as a sample building and analyzed numerically by Hardy-Cross method. Two different piping networks, one has three vertical zones and the other of a single zone with automatic balancing valves, were compared. Some of research results are as follows; As the temperature of supply hot-water increases, the flow rate of it does by buoyancy effect, but this effect is not found in the piping network with automatic balancing valves. Non-uniformity in hot-water flow distributions to all stories in the piping system of single vertical zone can be completely reformed by the installation of either manually operated or automatic balancing valves in every story.

The performance of the crossover system of a centrifugal compressor stage consisting of static components of $180^{\circ}$ U-bend, return channel vanes and exit ducting with a $90^{\circ}$ bend is investigated. This study is confined to the assessment of performance of the crossover system by varying the shape of the return channel vanes. For this purpose two different types of Return Channel Vanes (RCV1 and RCV2) were experimentally investigated. The performance of the crossover system is discussed in terms of total pressure loss coefficient, static pressure recovery coefficient and vane surface pressure distribution. The experimentation was carried out on a test setup in which static swirl vanes were used to simulate the flow at the exit of an actual centrifugal compressor impeller with a design flow coefficient of 0.053. The swirl vanes are connected to a mechanism with which the flow angle at the inlet of U-bend could be altered. The measurements were taken at five different operating conditions varying from 70% to 120% of design flow rate. On an overall assessment RCV1 is found to give better performance in comparison to RCV2 for different U-bend inlet flow angles. The performance of RCV2 was verified using numerical studies with the help of a CFD Code. Three dimensional sector models were used for simulating the flow through the crossover system. The turbulence was predicted with standard k-$\varepsilon$, 2-equation model. The iso-Mach contour plots on different planes and development of secondary flows were visualized through this study.

A study of temperature profiles in mixing zone of AHU (air handling unit) can contribute greatly to enhance performance of AHU system, so the study on the temperature distribution between RA (return air) and OA (outdoor air) is important to analyze the mixing characteristics in a mixing zone of AHU. Accordingly, the temperature profiles during RA (return air) and OA (outdoor air) supply process into mixing zone of AHU with an air mixer are studied experimentally. The effect of air mixer, OA temperature and RA/OA flow rate are studied in detail. In this study, the results show that the mixing efficiency is all high for installed the air mixer. The more OA temperature increase and OA flow rate decrease, the more mixing efficiency is high.

A water balance analysis was performed for a paddy field neighboring the Dongchang stream, downstream of the Unmun reservoir, which is constructed for the urban water supply. Daily rainfall data were collected and irrigation water flow rate, drainage flow rate, evaportranspiration, infiltration, and piezometeric head were measured in the field. The flow rates were continuously observed by water level logger during the growing season. The evaportranspiration and the infiltration were measured by N-type depletion meter and cylindrical infiltrometer, respectively. PVC pipes with 12mm diameter were used for piezometric head measurement. Total Irrigation and drainage flows were 3,608mm and 1,170mm in 1999, and 3,971mm and 1,548mm in 2000, respectively. The mean and range of the daily infiltration rate were 4.4mm/d and 3.4mm/d to 5.5mm/d in 1999 and 5.1mm/d and 4.1mm/d to 6.5mm/d in 2000, respectively. The net ground water flow including the change of soil water storage was 2,855mm in 1999 and 2,540mm in 2000. The evapotranspiration was 458.3mm in 1999 and 553.5mm in 2000. The range of daily evapotranspiration rate was from 1.6 to 8.7mm/d. The return flow ratio was about 32% in 1999 and 39% in 2000 and three year average was 35% including previous study in 1997. The amount of irrigation water was much higher than design standards or references in this study, This was caused by the inadequate water management practice in the area where water was oversupplied on farmers’ request rather than following sound water management principles.
The demand and installation for photovoltaic system(namely, PV) has grown steadily in Korea. However, the PV system has a various economic viability according to the PV system characteristic variables such as inverter efficiency, miscellaneous power conditioning losses, azimuth and slope of PV array, PV tracking mode, and so on. The other variables are the monthly consumed electric energy and economic related factor such as initial cost, government subsidy, maintenance cost, inflation rate, energy cost escalation rate, discount rate, etc. Therefore, this study is to present economic evaluation of PV system with those concerned factors by calculating internal rate of return, year-to-positive cash flow and net present value indices.
