This study examines the impact of retirement on psychological well-being of the elderly and identifies whether associative factors of psychological well-being differ between retired and non-retired persons. Psychological well-being is measured by the PGCMS developed by Lawton. The sample includes 1,625 older adults aged 60 and over, which derived from the cross-sectional data of the "Aging and the Quality of Life of the Elderly in Korea: A Longitudinal Study" living in Seoul and Chuncheon in 2003. Multivariate OLS regression results show that retirement is not associated with psychological well-being after controlling socio-demographic characteristics, economic status, health status, family and social relations, participation in social activities, and satisfaction with hobbies and learning needs. Also, associative factors of psychological well-being differ between retired and non-retired persons. For retired persons, greater social activities and higher satisfaction with hobbies are associated with the higher level of psychological well-being whereas higher satisfaction with learning needs has a positive relationship with the higher level of psychological well-being for non-retired persons. Discussion and implications of the findings are presented, and limitations of this study are acknowledged.

At the one month follow-up assessment, the effect of program is still remained strongly even though there is a Partial slight increase or reduction which is not statistically significant. I had an interview with some unemployed career staffs who had retired and worked for more than twenty years in order to research impacting elements on reemployment for l retired special security government officials. This interview included an officer and a consultant for supporting employment in order to explore compacting elements on retired security government official's reemployment. Looking over analysis results, first, there is a shortage of reemployment opportunities and information. The job applicant's employment requirements are not in accordance with the company's employment conditions. They don't have enough professional experience necessary for employment. There is no positive employment supporting counterplan or vocational education program in the organization. Second, their insight about finding a job is high for the current employment market condition. The reemployment offices have a very difficult task because job applicants prefer a full-time job which offers long term work and guarantees a social position. Third, it is a huge obstacle to undertake going into various enterprises and fields because they don't have the right mind set and enough preparation for reemployment. Moreover, they would prefer to depend on organization employment support rather than getting a new job by themselves when they don't possess other careers' qualifications. Finally, they know that social networks and personal connections are extremely important in obtaining vocations, but actually have poor social networks and few personal connections. Accordingly, Their organization and related persons need to reflect on analysis results about impacting elements on reemployment for retired special security government officials.

The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of smartphone use on structured social network types in the Korean elderly population. Data was derived from the 2014 survey of living conditions and welfare needs of Korean older persons collected by Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs. A total of 4,180 participants were selected for the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) analysis. Based on propensity score estimates, the 491 smartphone users (treatment group) and 491 featurephone users (control group) were matched. Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between smartphone use and structural social network types. The results showed that among retired older adults, people using smartphone had significantly better structured social networks than those using featurephone even after controlling for covariates. Smartphone users had the higher levels of social contact and social activity. These findings suggested empirical evidence that using smartphone positively affects structured social networks, which might be used as the basis for designing intervention programs to promote social networks and social engagement of retired older adults.

Korea is expected to become an "aged society" in approximately fifteen years. In order to prepare Korean society for this "aged society", the government and social organizaitons need to offer a life stage preparation manual for the young, middle-aged, and aging populations, as well as providing support structures to guide them through this transition. Researchers have developed a Life Stage Preparation Program, based on surveys and experiments conducted to assess needs and appraise effectiveness. To accomplish the goal of this research, the team has been composed of specialists from the fields of social welfare, family studies, occupational studies, and gerontology. The Life Stage Preparation Program consists of ten areas: understanding ageing issues, sustaining and improving health, psychological issues, continuing education, family relations, social activities, financial preparation, occupations, shelter, and mortality. The effectiveness of the program surveyed on age group of 20s and 60s resulted in nine areas. The Life Stage Preparation Program needs to be operated as a life long education program.

This study was conducted to develop and apply the health conversation program to determine its effectiveness. The study employed a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. There were 25 subjects in one intervention group and 22 subjects in the control group. The program included a 4-week, 12-session education program in health conversation for professionally retired elderly mentors and an 8-week, 24-session program for vulnerable elderly diabetics provided by mentors who were older persons trained in diabetes management. Data were collected from December 2015 to May 2016 and subsequently analyzed by an independent t-test using SPSS 20.0. Biochemical variables and physical variables were assessed by blood test and Inbody 230 (Biospace). Psychosocial variables were assessed by questionnaires. The health conservation program led to significantly decreased FBS (p<0.01), TC (p<0.01), TG (p=0.04), SBP (p=0.03), waist (p<0.01) and symptoms of depression (p=0.01), and significantly increased social support (p=0.02). These results indicated that the health conservation program is effective at increasing social support and decreasing FBS, TC, TG, SBP, waist, and symptoms of depression in community-dwelling vulnerable diabetic elderly; accordingly, health conservation programs should be applied to improve quality of life of vulnerable diabetic elderly.
