In this study, changes in chlorophyll and carotenoid pigment in fresh and ash treated Undaria pinnetifida were determined by column chromatography. And pigment stabilizing effects of ashes were discussed. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The main carotenoids of Undaria pinnetifida are fucoxanthin, violaxanthin, lutein and $\beta-carotene$. 2. In storage of fresh Undaria pinnetifida at $2-5^{\circ}C$ for 30 days, chlorophyll a decreased rapidly and mainly converted to pheophytin a. Among carotenoids, lutein was markedly lost while the others retained approximately $30\%$ after 30 days' storage. 3, By treating the sample with ashes, the loss of chlorophyll a was restrained whereas that of carotenoids seemed to be promoted. It is considered that pigment stabilization was attributed to both effect, the pH control effect by the alkalinity of ashes and the fixation of the pigment by heavy metals in ashes. The stabilizing effect of chlorophyll a differed from the kind of ashes used. Reed ashes showed better effect than others such as straw or pine ashes. 4. Since fucoxanthin is extremely sensitive to alkali the treatment of ashes with a high alkalinity resulted in rapid decrease of the pigment during storage. 5. In the analysis of ashes, reed ashes which had better effect on chlorophyll a retention than the other ashes showed the highest content of iron.
Orthodontic treatment of posterior bite collapse due to early loss of molars and the consequent drift of adjacent teeth is complicated. When the posterior bite collapse occurs in patients with facial asymmetry, both transverse and vertical compensation are necessary for camouflage orthodontic treatment. In such cases, posterior maxillary segmental osteotomy (PMSO) can be an effective alternative procedure that simplifies the orthodontic treatment and shows long-term stability through dental compensation within the alveolar bone housing. This case report aimed to describe the orthodontic treatment of maxillary occlusal plane canting caused by severely extruded maxillary teeth in a patient with skeletal facial asymmetry that was corrected with PMSO along with protraction of the lower second molar to replace the space of the extracted first molar. The treatment duration was 18 months, and stable results were obtained after 2 years of retention.
Effects of cadmium exposure on renal $Na^+$ and $K^+$ transports were studied in rats. During the course of cadmium treatment (2 mg Cd/kg/day, s.c. injections for 3 weeks) renal tubular transports of $Na^+$ and $K^+$ were evaluated by lithium clearance technique. During the early phase (first week) of cadmium treatment, urinary $Na^+$ excretion decreased drastically and this was due to an increased $Na^+$ reabsorption both in the proximal and distal nephrons. During the late phase (third week) of cadmium treatment, filtered $Na^+$ load was decreased by reduction in GFR, but the renal $Na^+$ excretion returned to the control level due to impaired $Na^+$ transport in the proximal tubule. Urinary excretion of $K^+$ did not change during the early phase, but it rose markedly during the late phase of cadmium treatment. These results indicate that a light cadmium intoxication induces a $Na^+$ retention, and a heavy intoxication results in a $K^+$ loss. Possible mechanisms for these changes are discussed.
The purpose of this paper was to investigate the significance of splinted and non-splinted implant-supported restorations with an internal connection for multiple consecutively missing teeth. Upon examination of the effects of fixture-abutment connection, the distribution of occlusal load was favorable in splinted implant-prosthesis with an external connection, but effect of strain distribution was not significant in splinted implant-prosthesis with an internal connection. In splinted implant-prostheses for short implants, strain distribution was not affected by the method of retention. For cement-retained prostheses, the effect of strain distribution due to splinting was not significant. In clinical studies, non-splinted prostheses with an internal connection for multiple consecutively missing teeth showed high survival rate, mild marginal bone loss, and stable periodontal condition. However, failure to achieve optimal proximal contact between single-unit prostheses may lead to food impaction, and veneer fracture may be inevitable when the framework provides inadequate support in the proximal region. In conclusion, splinted implant-prosthesis is not an indication in all cases, and clinical consideration of its use should be based on the patient's oral condition, such as location and number of implants, formation of proximal contact, canine guidance, existence of parafunctional habit, and oral hygiene, when multiple consecutively missing teeth are replaced by internal connection type implant.

Implant-supported overdenture is a reliable treatment option for the patients with edentulous mandible when they have difficulty in using complete dentures. Several options have been used for implant-supported overdenture attachments. Among these, bar attachment system has greater retention and better maintainability than others. SFI-Bar$^{(R)}$ is prefabricated and can be adjustable at chairside. Therefore, laboratory procedures such as soldering and welding are unnecessary, which leads to fewer errors and lower costs. A 67-year-old female patient presented, complaining of mobility of lower anterior teeth with old denture. She had been wearing complete denture in the maxilla and removable partial denture in the mandible with severe bone loss. After extracting the teeth, two implants were placed in front of mental foramen, and SFI-Bar$^{(R)}$ was connected. A tube bar was seated to two adapters through large ball joints and fixation screws, connecting each implant. The length of the tube bar was adjusted according to inter-implant distance. Then, a female part was attached to the bar beneath the new denture. This clinical report describes two-implant-supported overdenture using the SFI-Bar$^{(R)}$ system in a mandibular edentulous patient.
Characteristics of a downflow anaerobic packed bed reactor with raschig ring ceramics as a packing were measured and discussed for the basic evaluation of the process. A synthesized glucose substrate wastewater were used as a feed and process characteristics such as pH, biogas production, composition of produced gas, COD removal and VSS were measured with the hydraulic retention time (HRT) changing from 0.25 to 2 days. As a result, this type of reactor was applicable in continuous operation within the given HRT range and the transient period approaching the steady state was about 20 days. The content of methane in produced gas increase with HRT was always high above 50% enough to use as energy source. The COD removal efficiency increased gradually as HRT increased. The axial profile of VSS concentration in the reactor usually showed the maximum at the lower region and the minimum at the middle. The VSS concentration at the upper region and the exit appeared similarly. However, at 0.25 day of HRT, the VSS concentration of effluent became higher than that of the upper region. Therefore the optimum HRT of this reactor occurred about 0.5 day, at which the production of methane began to be just stabilized and loss of VSS and COD removal were resonable.
Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the relationship with abdominal visceral fat area in obese patients identified as phlegm type. Methods : This research were performed in 201 cases, visited Kirin Oriental Hospital from March 2005 to February 2006 for weight loss. We measured body mass index(BMI), abdominal CT, and classified all patients into two groups, normal and obesity group. And then we differentiated patients with phlegm-retention symptom from patients without it through questionnaire made by Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. Results and Conclusions : Phlegm type was significantly higher than them of no symptom of phlegm in the abdominal visceral areas(P=0.036) and ratio(P=0.007), in obesity group$(BMI{\geq}25)$. On the other hand, there is little difference between abdominal visceral fat areas of phlegm type and no symptom of phlegm in normal group. According to the above results, if obese patients are diagnosed as identification of phlegm type there is good chance of abdominal visceral obesity.
Low-fat sausages were prepared with various meats to investigate the effect of the addition of oatmeal at 10% as a fat substitute. The sausages were made with beef, pork and chicken after trimming the visible fat, and the physical and sensory properties of the sausages were evaluated. Beef sausage had the lowest cooking yield and the highest hardness, while chicken sausage showed the opposite properties. The addition of oatmeal resulted in sausage products with less cooking loss and softer texture for all types of meat sausages. Such changes were more pronounced for beef low-fat sausage than for the other types of sausages. The results of moisture absorption suggested that the difference in cooking yield and hardness among sausage products was due to the water-retention properties of different meats and the substitute in response to heat treatment. Sensory evaluation indicated that the greatest overall acceptability of the sausage products were obtained from 10% oatmeal-added pork sausage and that the addition of oatmeal led to better acceptability for all types meat sausages.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between variety pregnancy related factors and postpartum BMI change. Methods: Analyzing the BMI of 125 postpartum women in oriental medical hospital of O O university from March, 2008 to May, 2008. This paper presents a numerical investigation of two-phase natural circulation flows established when external reactor vessel cooling is applied to a severe accident of the APR1400 reactor for the in-vessel retention of the core melt. The coolability limit due to external reactor vessel cooling is associated with the natural circulation flow rate around the lower head of the reactor vessel. For an elaborate prediction of the natural circulation flow rate using a thermal-hydraulic system code, MARS-KS1.5, a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation is conducted to estimate the flow rate and pressure distribution of a liquid-state coolant at the brink of significant void generation. The CFD calculation results are used to determine the loss coefficient at major flow junctions, where substantial pressure losses are expected, in the nodalization scheme of the MARS-KS code such that the single-phase flow rate is the same as that predicted via CFD simulations. Subsequently, the MARS-KS analysis is performed for the two-phase natural circulation regime, and the transient behavior of the main thermal-hydraulic variables is investigated.
