  • The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of quinolone resistant E. coli from retail meat and to characterize the resistant determinants. Determination of minimum inhibitory concentration, the sequence analysis of gyrA, gyrB, parC, and parE quinolone resistance determining regions (QRDR), the presences of plasmid mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) and the expression of efflux pump genes were investigated. Of the total 277 retail meat samples, 67 coli form bacteria were isolated. 15 of 67 isolates showed nalidixic acid resistance and 7 of 15 nalidixic acid resistant isolates were also resistant to ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin and levofloxacin. 11 of 15 nalidixic acid resistant strains were isolated from chicken, 2 of 15 were isolated from beef and 2 of 15 were isolated from pork samples. 11 of 15 nalidixic acid resistant strains have single mutation at codon 87 (D87N or D87G) in gyrA, 2 of 11 gyrA mutants have double mutations at codon 86 and 87 (L86A and L87I) in parC with mutations at codon 434+445+465 or 429 in gyrB. 2 of 15 resistant isolates harbored qnrS, a PMQR determinant. Over expression of the acrB gene, efflux pump gene (3.93~16.53 fold), was observed in 10 of 15 resistant isolates.

  • The rise of the machine culture in the last 20th century has rapidly changed the world into a high-tech civilized society but at the same time, it also caused environmental estrangements such as damage in the environment and the loss of humanity in the human society due to materialism. As a reaction to the absence of humanity in such environment, in these modern days design which acts as the product of public art, escaped from the previous physical functional satisfaction and stood out as the culture industry that satisfies human's sensibility. This study is focusing on the method of how such sensitive designs are expressed in the interior space of retail shops and such methods are researched through the image evaluation test conducted to the 10 brands of overseas' jewelery shops. The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning and effects of designs that took consideration of sensibility in a retail shop and to establish efficient marketing strategy using sensitive design and to utilize it into the interior space.

  • In this research we propose the need of implementing CRM systems to reactivate traditional retail markets, and analyze the primary factors for successful implementation of CRM systems. We derived 4 primary factors such as business management, customer management, service management, and facility management among 22 measurement factors. The characteristics of each primary factor are ; product planning and certification management activities are needed for business management factor. Privileged treatment policies for primary customers are regarded as needed. And the needs for total service in service management factor including from order to delivery and return are raised. Finally, improvements of convenient facilities for using traditional retail markets are needed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the Cost-Effectiveness Analysis (CEA) of wholesale and retail brokerage businesses in Korea. And give managerial implications and contribute to academics. Research design, data and methodology: This research empirically analyzes the relationship between expenses and business performance. As for business performance, this research considered two financial performances; sales and profit. As for antecedent variables, this research measured three cost investment expenses; human resource management (HRM), marketing (MKT) and corporate social responsibility (CSR). This research used frequency analysis, correlation analysis, stepwise regression analysis and curve estimation analysis. Results: The result shows that HRM and CSR positive significant influence on sales yet marketing negatively significant influence on sales. And for profit, HRM and CSR give a positive significant influence. However, marketing's influence was not significant. According to curve estimation analysis, the relation between individual cost and performance, best functional relation was all quadratic functions. Some results show ∩ shape and others show shape. Conclusions: Based on this study result, implications for practical management to Wholesale and Retail Brokerage companies in Korea. And the contribution to academics is expected. Also, based on the limitation of this study, future research is suggested.

  • In this paper, we discuss the effectiveness of information system such as POS(point of sale) and PDS(POS data service) to the government-supported small retail shop called nadle shop. Also, the functional requirements for PDS implementation are examined. Introduction of information system to small retail shop is necessary for achieving good - but a little impact on - management performance. For the empirical study, the survey results for POS utilization and management performance for the nadle shops supported from 2010 to the first half of 2011 are analyzed. Consequently, information system doesn't give direct effect on producing management performance. However, no doubt it contribute service quality and satisfaction to the customers and provides refined information to be useful to the owners.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the motives of second-hand clothing consumers who both purchase from and donate to one retail outlet. Individuals' purchasing and donating motivations were examined using the hedonic/utilitarian framework. Eighteen participants who had donated to and purchased second-hand clothing from a charitable organization's thrift store were purposively selected and interviewed. Themes that emerged during data analysis were used to categorize the participants. The participants' responses suggested that hedonic and utilitarian motives drove both donation and purchase behavior. Academic and practical implications are presented.

  • This study examined customer misbehaviors in retail settings by identifying behavioral patterns and exploring behavioral backgrounds and consequences from the employee's perspectives. Qualitative data were collected from an individual interview method, and 222 interviews were analyzed. Customer misbehavior was categorized into unethical returns, problem behaviors in service encounters, unreasonable demands, shoplifting/fraud, ill-mannered behaviors, and selfish behaviors. Behavioral backgrounds included dissatisfaction, unreasonable expectations, actively benefiting of service failures, taking advantage of service standards, illegitimate complaints, monetary gains, transferring responsibility, and demanding special treatment. Employees experienced stress facing misbehaving customers with no other choice except to accept misbehaviors and learned misbehaviors as customers themselves. The study further discusses the implications.

  • Purpose: The study examines how emotional leadership affects employee attitude towards work engagement. Leader legitimacy perception is chosen as the mediating variable to understand the effect of emotional leadership on employee work engagement. Research design, data and methodology: The research model is based on theory and empirical research findings in order to examine the mediating effect of leader legitimacy perception on the relationship between the manager's emotional leadership and employee work engagement. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among 188 employees of domestic retail distributors. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and survey data confirmed the construct, and the hypothesis was tested by using structural equation modeling (SEM). Results: a) Emotional leadership has positive influence on leader legitimacy; b) Leader legitimacy is positively related to work engagement; c) Leader legitimacy mediates a positive relationship between emotional leadership and work engagement. However, there is no direct effect on work engagement (of employees) from emotional leadership standpoint. Conclusion: Based on the empirical results, implications and future research directions are discussed.

  • Many researches on online shopping malls have been studied actively in domestic and foreign countries. As the life style of domestic consumers have changed, the role of traditional markets have been replaced by that of discount retail stores. However, there have been a little research on domestic discount retail stores. This paper provides empirical evidence on the relationship between perceived value, trust, satisfaction, and repurchase intention based on a discount retail store in Gyeongnam province. The result show that trust and satisfaction act as a mediating variable on the relationship between perceived value and repurchase intention.

  • This paper is to build a spatial decision support system designed to solve problems relevant to the decision-making for retail center locations. For construction of the system this paper discusses the primary procedures of spatial modeling and issues of data, which are required for integrating spatial interaction models to GIS having capability of managing, analyzing and visualizing spatial data sets. Lexington, Kentucky, is selected as a case study to implement the spatial decision support system based on the spatial modeling module. This system for retail center locations is useful of estimating the catchment areas more accurately and analyzing resultant flow patterns. And this system can make spatial analysis efficiently for what-if scenarios such as an intended retail center or changing demand. The benefits of adopting this system allow the decision makers to plan the investment strategies and search for stable market structure.
