  • In this study we analyze the performance of overseas subsidiaries of Korean multinationals with localization in sales, purchase, and employment. We use the data of 2,116 overseas subsidiaries in 61 countries between 2008 and 2011 provided by The Export-Inport Bank of Korea. As a result, analysis shows that the effect of localization on the performance is quite different by sectors and countries which the subsidiaries have entered. In the manufacturing sector, increase of local sales has positive effect only in China, while local purchase improves the performance of the subsidiaries in developing counties excluding China. However, the subsidiaries which had made a foray to service sector in advanced countries aquired better performance with localization of sales, purchase, and employment, whereas those in China had no merit except localization of purchase.

  • The seismic safety of nuclear power plants has always been emphasized by the effects of accidents. In general, the seismic safety evaluation of nuclear power plants carries out a seismic probabilistic safety assessment. The current probabilistic safety assessment assumes that damage to the structure, system, and components (SSCs) occurs independently to each other or perfect dependently to each other. In case of earthquake events, the failure event occurs with the correlation due to the correlation between the seismic response of the SSCs and the seismic performance of the SSCs. In this study, the EEMS (External Event Mensuration System) code is developed which can perform the seismic probabilistic safety assessment considering correlation. The developed code is verified by comparing with the multiplier n, which is for calculating the joint probability of failure, which is proposed by Mankamo. It is analyzed the changes in seismic fragility curves and seismic risks with correlation. As a result, it was confirmed that the seismic fragility curves and seismic risk change according to the failure correlation coefficient. This means that it is important to select an appropriate failure correlation coefficient in order to perform a seismic probabilistic safety assessment. And also, it was confirmed that carrying out the seismic probabilistic safety assessment in consideration of the seismic correlation provides more realistic results, rather than providing conservative or non-conservative results comparing with that damage to the SSCs occurs independently.

  • Purpose: This study aimed at identifying the factors affecting the service satisfaction of urban elderly, focusing on the outreach community health service in Seoul, and suggesting policy directions for the successful implementation of community care. Method: Individuals aged 65 and 70 who used the outreach community health service from July 2017 to June 2019 were eligible for the survey. A total of 2,028 people were sampled using a proportional allocation method for each autonomous district in the survey which covered 25 districts. A multi-level logistic regression analysis was conducted, taking into account the individual's socioeconomic level, health status, type of service provided, and the healthcare-related environment and service provision period of the autonomous district. Result: The results revealed that the health status of the urban elderly, the type of services provided (health screening, linkage to community health center and clinic/hospital, medical checkup results counseling, frailty evaluation), and personal experience of the service were the major factors associated with the satisfaction with the outreach health services. Conclusion: The development of customized health services based on the close relationship between visiting nurses and the elderly may be considered to promote a sustainable community health care model.

  • Traditional methods of detecting security vulnerabilities in source-code require a lot of time and effort. If there is good data, the issue could be solved by using the data with machine learning. Thus, this paper proposes a source-code vulnerability detection method based on machine learning. Our method employs the code2vec model that has been used to propose the names of methods, and uses as a data set, Juliet Test Suite that is a collection of common security vulnerabilities. The evaluation shows that our method has high precision of 97.3% and recall rates of 98.6%. And the result of detecting vulnerabilities in open source project shows hopeful potential. In addition, it is expected that further progress can be made through studies covering with vulnerabilities and languages not addressed here.

  • This study collected various data of urban roadways to analyze the effect of travel speed change, and a GRU-based short-term travel speed prediction model was developed using such big data. The baseline model and the double exponential smoothing model were selected as comparison models, and prediction errors were evaluated using the RMSE index. The model evaluation results revealed that the average RMSE of the baseline model and the double exponential smoothing model were 7.46 and 5.94, respectively. The average RMSE predicted by the GRU model was 5.08. Although there are deviations for each of the 15 links, most cases showed minimal errors in the GRU model, and the additional scatter plot analysis presented the same result. These results indicate that the prediction error can be reduced, and the model application speed can be improved when applying the GRU-based model in the process of generating travel speed information on urban roadways.

  • Autonomous vehicles, which can dramatically solve the lack of parking spaces, are making great progress through deep reinforcement learning. Activation functions are used for deep reinforcement learning, and various activation functions have been proposed, but their performance deviations were large depending on the application environment. Therefore, finding the optimal activation function depending on the environment is important for effective learning. This paper analyzes 12 functions mainly used in reinforcement learning to compare and evaluate which activation function is most effective when autonomous vehicles use deep reinforcement learning to learn parking. To this end, a performance evaluation environment was established, and the average reward of each activation function was compared with the success rate, episode length, and vehicle speed. As a result, the highest reward was the case of using GELU, and the ELU was the lowest. The reward difference between the two activation functions was 35.2%.

  • As the importance of intervention has recently increased, interest in the health of medical staff performing the procedure is increasing. Existing radiation shielding devices have limited the operator's movement and have not been properly used due to the risk of infection, and adequate radiation shielding of the operator's gonads and furthermore, the entire area of the procedure room has not been achieved. An auxiliary shielding device was manufactured by attaching a Bismuth to the elbow support used in the procedure, and the radiation shielding effect was measured. As a result of the measurement, the average spatial dose rate decreased by about 64.8%, and the independent sample t-test analysis showed statistically significant below the significance probability (p<0.05). The use of an auxiliary shielding device is considered to be an effective shielding method that can shield the operator's gonads and reduce the radiation spatial dose rate of the entire area of the procedure room.

  • This study aims to apply the G-theory for estimation of reliability of evaluation scores between raters on Taekwondo Poomsae rating categories. Selecting a number of game days and raters as multiple error sources, we analyzed the error sources caused by relative magnitude of error variances of interaction between the factors and proceeded with D-study based on the results of G-study for optimal determination of measurement condition. The results showed below. The estimated outcomes of variance component for accuracy among the Taekwondo Poomsae categories with G-theory showed that impact of error was the biggest influence factor in raters conditions and in order of interaction in subjects and between subjects, also impact of variance component estimation error on expression category was the major influence factor in interaction and in order of the between subjects and raters. Finally, the result of generalizability coefficient estimation via D-study showed that measurement condition of optimal level depend on the number of raters was 8 persons of raters on accuracy category, and stable reliability on expression category was gained when the raters were 7 persons.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of wheat gluten on quality characteristics of white pan bread with 10% resistant starch. White pan bread was fortified with wheat gluten at levels of 2%, 4% and 6% w/w. The pH of dough and white pan bread, specific loaf volume, water activity, baking loss rate, crumb color, hardness, and sensory evaluation were analyzed for quality characteristics. The pH of processed dough and white pan bread with additional vital wheat gluten was lower than that of control, and pH increased with increasing wheat gluten content. Water activity was lower in white pan bread with added vital wheat gluten than in the control, however there were no significant differences. Specific loaf volume revealed a higher value in tests than in the control, and the products revealed a higher specific loaf volume with higher amounts of vital wheat gluten. However, the baking loss rate decreased with increasing wheat gluten content. In terms of crumb color analysis, L, a, and b values lowered with increasing wheat gluten. Hardness appeared to be lower in tests than in the control, and the test with 6% wheat gluten showed the lowest value among the products. In a sensory evaluation, the product with 4% wheat gluten revealed the highest score. As a result of this study, 4% wheat gluten is considered to be the reasonable level in preparing white pan bread with 10% resistant starch.
