폭염 대응전략 수립을 위한 폭염위험도 시각화 플랫폼 (The Hazard Viz-platform for the Establishment of Heatwave Response Strategies)

  • Recently, the earth's highest temperature is rising due to severe climate change and heat wave. In addition, due to the increase of elderly population over 65, the number of heat patients is also increasing. In particular, the elderly who live alone in poor living environments, the lower income group, and the socially disadvantaged, such as children and pregnant women, are exposed to the dangers of heat waves, so the government's practical measures are urgently needed. In this study, we will build a visualization platform for each level of heat wave and provide the necessary countermeasure solution according to the heat wave risk. "The Hazard Visualization Platform for Heatwave" provide not only simple information, but also a customized safety service for citizens to prevent heatwaves, respond to heatwaves, and utilize heat wave information.

Measurement Issues across Different Cultures

  • Purpose. The purposes of this methodologic paper are to (1) describe theoretical background in conducting research across different cultures; (2) address measurement issues related to instrument administration; and (3) provide strategies to deal with measurement issues. Methods. A thorough review of the literature was conducted. A theoretical background is provided, and examples of administering instrument in studies are described. Results. When applying an instrument to different cultures, both equivalence and bias need to be established. Three levels of equivalence, i.e., construct equivalence, measurement unit equivalence, and full score comparability, need to be explained to maintain the same concept being measured. In this paper, sources of bias in construct, method, and item are discussed. Issues related to instrument administration in a cross-cultural study are described. Conclusion. Researchers need to acknowledge various group differences in concept and/or language that include a specific set of symbols and norms. There is a need to question the philosophical and conceptual appropriateness of an assessment measure that has been conceptualized and operationalized in a different culture. Additionally, testing different response formats such as narrowing response range can be considered to reduce bias.

EFL Students' Beliefs and Processing Behaviors toward Writing and Teacher Response

  • This study took a cross-sectional, quantitative approach and profiled EFL students' awareness of the writing process and of teacher feedback. The subjects were 113 college students aged 19-26 years from non-English majors, who were enrolled in three sections of a required English course. According to the scores gained from the essay writing assignment, they were divided into two groups (proficient and less-proficient writers) and responded to an in-class survey. Major findings were that: (1) the vast majority of both groups did not find English writing enjoyable; (2) longer comments gave rise to substantial changes to the students' revisions; (3) the less-proficient writers were shown to benefit from revision significantly more than the proficient writers; (4) Both groups of writers utilized multiple strategies to process teacher feedback and preferred to receive teacher comments using complete sentences rather than phrases or single words; and (5) teacher's marks on grammar and vocabulary claimed to be most conducive to EFL writing development. Several important implications for EFL writing instruction and for future studies are suggested.

패션 기업의 CRM에 대한 고객 반응 연구 (Customer's Response to CRM of Fashion Business)

  • This study was intended to identify customer's response to CRM of fashion business.488 questionnaires were distributed to male and female respondents aged 16 to 55, and then analyzed by descriptive statistics, oneway-ANOVA, chi-square test, and factor analysis. As a result of customer information management, respondents evaluated taste, interest and demographic informations as most valuable. But they did not value personal and credit information. For CRM concept, 4 factors were determined: continuous care and suggestion, particular service to important customer, customer management program development, and customer convenience consideration. For CRM activity, 3 factors were determined: customization, information offering, and programmed service strategies. Respondents were having positive attitude toward CRM concept and activity of fashion business. Among customer loyalty programs, they affected by immediate and direct programs most. The preference of customer contact methods was differentiated by sex and age groups. Males and teenagers preferred e-mail, and females preferred catalog and telephone connection.

위계적 고착현상 치료 프로그램의 적용: 사례 연구 (Hierarchical Treatment of Aphasic Perserveration Program: A Case Study)

  • This study explored the effectiveness of a hierarchical treatment of aphasic perseveration (TAP) program in a Korean client with transcortical sensory aphasia. The subject with 52% perserveration score (Korean version of Boston Naming Test : K-BNT) was 44 year-old female with MCA (Middle cerebral artery) infarction. The experimental design used was an alternating treatment design with the hierarchical TAP and conventional audio-visual stimulation. The frequency of occurrence of perseverative behaviors and correct response in naming performance were analyzed and compared. It was claimed that the hierarchical TAP was more effective in naming performance than conventional audio-visual stimulation in terms of correct naming response. The frequency of occurrence of perseverative behaviors was lower in hierarchical TAP but the difference was relatively small. Unlike in English, sentence completion task was no longer stimulable while unison speech was very stimulable among the specific strategies of TAP program in Korean. Therefore, it could be said that TAP is language-dependent.

Impact of tumour associated macrophages in pancreatic cancer

  • During cancer progression, bone marrow derived myeloid cells, including immature myeloid cells and macrophages, progressively accumulate at the primary tumour site where they contribute to the establishment of a tumour promoting microenvironment. A marked infiltration of macrophages into the stromal compartment and the generation of a desmoplastic stromal reaction is a particular characteristic of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) and is thought to play a key role in disease progression and its response to therapy. Tumour associated macrophages (TAMs) foster PDA tumour progression by promoting angiogenesis, metastasis, and by suppressing an anti-tumourigenic immune response. Recent work also suggests that TAMs contribute to resistance to chemotherapy and to the emergence of cancer stem-like cells. Here we will review the current understanding of the biology and the pro-tumourigenic functions of TAMs in cancer and specifically in PDA, and highlight potential therapeutic strategies to target TAMs and to improve current therapies for pancreatic cancer.

Strategies for Operation of Single and Multiple Shake Tables

  • Research using multiple shake tables present new and unique challenges in controls. Typical single shake table tests with large specimens must cope with significant specimen force feedback that can increase tracking error due to specimen gain, damping, and non-linearity. Multiple shaking tables with distributed specimens can produce cross-coupling forces due to inertial and response effects and forces due to static differential displacements. Although many various control architectures exist, basic simplified techniques can yield excellent results without risk to control stability. Off-line simulation techniques can also prove invaluable for studying system response before the real system is operated.

α-Fe2O3 nanostructure-based gas sensors

  • Gas sensors based on semiconducting metal oxides have attracted considerable attention for various applications owing to their facile, cheap, and small-scale manufacturing processes. Hematite (α-Fe2O3) is widely considered as a promising candidate for a gas-sensing material owing to not only its abundance in the earth's crust and low price but also its chemical stability and suitable bandgap energy. However, only a few studies have been performed in this direction because of the low gas response and sluggish response of hematite-based gas sensors. Nanostructures present a representative solution to both overcome these disadvantages and exploit the desirable features to produce high-performance gas sensors. However, several challenges remain for adopting gas sensors based on metal oxide nanostructures, such as improving cost efficiency and facilitating mass production. This review summarizes the recent studies on gas sensors based on hematite nanostructures. It also provides useful insights into various strategies for enhancing the gas-sensing properties of gas sensors based on hematite nanostructures.

  • Efforts are being made to replace ship diesel engines with electric propulsion motors in response to emission regulations. In particular, in the case of short-range small ships, research is being conducted to replace polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) with power sources. However, PEMFC has problems such as slow dynamic response characteristics and reduced durability at high temperatures. To solve this problem, a high-precision ship model was developed with power distribution and thermal management strategies applied, and through this, the required power, heat, and power characteristics of the propulsion system according to the ship's speed profile were analyzed.

Context-Dependent Regulation of Type17 Immunity by Microbiota at the Intestinal Barrier

  • T-helper-17 (Th17) cells and related IL-17-producing (type17) lymphocytes are abundant at the epithelial barrier. In response to bacterial and fungal infection, the signature cytokines IL-17A/F and IL-22 mediate the antimicrobial immune response and contribute to wound healing of injured tissues. Despite their protective function, type17 lymphocytes are also responsible for various chronic inflammatory disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colitis associated cancer (CAC). A deeper understanding of type17 regulatory mechanisms could ultimately lead to the discovery of therapeutic strategies for the treatment of chronic inflammatory disorders and the prevention of cancer. In this review, we discuss the current understanding of the development and function of type17 immune cells at the intestinal barrier, focusing on the impact of microbiota-immune interactions on intestinal barrier homeostasis and disease etiology.
