  • Device-to-device(D2D) links which share resources in a cellular network present a challenge in radio resource management due to the potentially severe interference they may cause to the cellular network. In this paper, a resource allocation scheme based on subset reuse methods is proposed to minimize the interference from the D2D links. We consider an adaptive group-wise subset reuse method to enhance the efficiency of frequency resource allocation for cellular and D2D links. A power optimization scheme is also proposed for D2D links if cellular links are interfered by adjacent D2D transmissions. The computer simulation results show that performance gain is obtained in link SINR, and total cell throughput increases as nearby traffic becomes more dominant.

  • Assigning different frequency resources among adjacent cells, namely the frequency reuse technique can be utilized to mitigate intercell interference, which is a major cause of performance degradation in cellular systems. Since most of conventional frequency reuse patterns are limited to the two-dimensional environment, the research for the three-dimensional frequency reuse would be beneficial especially for the implementation of femto cells in downtown office buildings. We propose frequency reuse patterns in three-dimensional space and evaluate their performance of each pattern in terms of channel capacity. In particular, we show that the proposed three-dimensional frequency reuse patterns can be applied for carrier-aggregated transmission of LTE-Advanced systems. The performance of the proposed patterns is evaluated using computer simulation.

  • Due to the global climate change, Korean peninsula is has been experiencing flooding and drought severely. It is hard difficult to manage water resources sustainably, because due to intensive precipitation in short periods and severe drought has increased in Korea. Reused water from the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) could be a sustainable and an alternative water source near the urban areas. In order to understand the patterns of water reuse in Korea, annual water reuses data according to the times and regional governments were investigated from 2008 to 2019. The reused water from WWTP in Korea has been mainly used for river maintenance flow and industrial use, while agricultural use of water reuse has decreased with time. Metropolitan cities in Korea such as Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Ulsan, and Incheon have been mainly used reused reusing water for river maintenance flow. Industrial water reuse has been limitedly applied recently for the planned industrial districts in Pohang, Gumi, Paju, and Asan. By using the collected annual water reuse data from the domestic sewerage statistics of sewerage, the optimistic and pessimistic future estimations of for future annual water reuse were suggested from 2020 to 2040 on a five year interval for every five years.

  • Due to the increased water demand and severe drought as an effect of the global warming, the effluent from wastewater treatment plants becomes considered as an alternative water source to supply agricultural, industrial, and public (gardening) water demand. The effluent from the wastewater treatment plant is a sustainable water source because of its good quality and stable amount of water discharge. In this study, the water reuse system was developed to minimize total construction cost to cope with the uncertain water demand in future using two-stage stochastic linear programming with binary variables. The pipes in the water reuse network were constructed in two stages of which in the first stage, the water demands of users are assumed to be known, while the water demands in the second stage have uncertainty in the predicted value. However, the water reuse system has to be designed now when the future water demands are not known precisely. Therefore, the construction of a pipe parallel with the existing one was allowed to meet the increased water demands in the second stage. As a result, the trade-off of construction costs between a pipe with large diameter and two pipes having small diameters was evaluated and the optimal solution was found. Three scenarios for the future water demand were selected and a hypothetical water reuse network considering the uncertainties was optimized. The results provide the information about the economies of scale in the water reuse network and the long range water supply plan.

  • The main goal of this research was to develop a Golf course planning Methodology in terms of use and preservation of natural resources which consider balance of Ecosystem. This study suggested the necessity of analysis of natural resources in the development site prior to its planning. The analysis will give a benefits both the profits of private enterprise and national interests for reuse of natural resources. Study site was planned region of Kyungpook Country Club, which located near Weagwan. In connection with this study, natural resources which will reuse in the planning stage and soil status in the development site were analyzed.

  • Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) systems are gaining interest as an alternative to conventional water resources. However, when the water recovered in MAR systems, dissolved iron and manganese species may easily oxidize and they cause well screen clogging or require abandonment of extraction wells. In this study, both oxic and anoxic conditions were analyzed to verify the feasibility of the membrane filtration performance under various solution chemistries. The fouling mechanisms of the metal ions under anoxic conditions were also investigated by employing synthetic wastewater. The fouled membranes were then further analyzed to verify the major causes of inorganic fouling through SEM and XPS. The newly suggested anoxic process refining existing membrane process is expected to provide more precious information about nanofiltration (NF) membrane fouling, especially for demonstrating the potential advantages to chemical-free drinking water production for indirect potable reuse.

  • Among 172 wastewater treatment plants, eighty eight plats are found to be qualified for potential wastewater resources applicable to agricultural irrigation. The total effluent capacities are 4,042 thousand tonnes per day, which may be used to irrigated paddy fields of $156\;km^2$. Preliminary surveys have been made to inquire farmers and water managers about their preference for wastewater reuse. All of them expressed their willingness to accept the wastewater reuse. The surveyed water managers suggested microbiological treatments be made and exclusive prove for safety of wastewater irrigation be prerequisite to the practices. Further surveys with experts and water managers throughout the nation are needed before any conclusions are made.

  • Water Quality of effluent from wastewater treatment plants was reviewed to reuse effluent for agricultural water as alternative water resources. Among 2004, wastewater treatment plants, 19 plants are found to be used as wastewater resources applicable to irrigation. The total effluent capacities are 9,293 thousand $m^3$per day, which may be used to irrigate paddy fields. In order to know how much the effluent can be use for agricultural water, we classified the effluent according to the river basin area and evaluated the water quality of the effluent.

  • The microsurface adsorption - spectral correction (MSASC) technique has been applied to the interaction of indigo carmine (IC) with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The aggregation of IC on CTAB obeys Langmuir isothermal adsorption. The results show that both the monomer complex $IC{\cdot}CTAB$ and the micellar complex $(IC{\cdot}CTAB)_{78}$ were formed. The binding constant of the monomer complex was calculated to be $K_{IC{\cdot}CTAB}$ = 2.20 ${\times}10^5L{\cdot}mol^{-1}$, and the molar absorptivity of the micellar complex was calculated to be ${\varepsilon}_{(IC{\cdot}CTAB)78}\;^{560nm}$ = 8.58 ${\times}10^5L{\cdot}mol^{-1}{\cdot}cm^{-1}$. The aggregation was applied to the determination of cationic surfactant in wastewater.
