  • Recently, various researches about water resources management system have been conducted in order to handle many problems, for example, climate change can provoke rapid change of water circulation, continuous population increase, population concentration phenomenon and so on. For population concentration region, many researches about water resources management system have been carried out, but many regions far away from civilization have not been handled as research topics. Especially these regions always need electricity supply infra, but significant costs will be required to construct the infra. Therefore this paper presents a methodology in order to generate the electricity from new renewable energy resources and supply the electricity into these region. For this, solar thermal generation system was experimentally studied. Moreover, this solar power generation system was considered as an important component to establish an ESS (Energy Storage System).

  • We are striving to strengthen environmental regulations and reduce household waste in all countries around the world. Korea is also striving for the circulation of energy resources by enacting laws to promote resource saving and recycling. The government has implemented an empty bottle deposit system for the recycling of empty bottles, but there is a limit to the collection through manpower and the reverse vending machine is not localized. In this paper, we propose a recyclable bottle recognition and classification algorithm which is essential in the reverser vending machine to promote energy resource circulation. The proposed algorithm is a complex identification algorithm using OpenCV and CNN(Convolution Neural Network). In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, we implement a classification system that operates in an reverse vending machine, so that it can easily acquire information about bottles and reverse vending machine in various devices.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility of using stable isotopes as a hydrologic tracer, and to elucidate the groundwater circulation system and the source of S component dissolved in thermal water of the Chonju Jukrim thermal spring district based on the O, H and S isotopic variabilities of environmental materials including bedrock, rainwater, surface water, shallow subsurface water and thermal spring water. The ${\delta}^{18}O$ and ${\delta}D$ of subsurface waters and surface water show highly restricted range and plotted on the same meteoric water line as a ${\delta}D=8{\delta}^{18}O+19$ line, and derivate from the mean annual isotopic composition of the rain water but are analogous to those of rain waters precipitated during winter season, indicating that ground waters are originated from the meteoric water and are strongly affected by the seasonal variation of air mass. Thermal spring waters are more depleted in ${\delta}^{18}O$ and ${\delta}D$ than those of shallow ground water and surface water. It can be explained by the difference of recharge area. The hydrochemical properties of subsurface waters and surface water devide into two groups: $Ca(HCO_3)_2$ type including shallow subsurface water and surface water, and $Na(HCO_3)$ type of thermal spring waters. The ${\delta}^{34}S$ values of thermal spring water show very high positive and quitely distinct from those of shallow subsurface water and surface water that are similar to those of bed rocks, indicating that sulfate dissolved in thermal spring water has not only a terrigenic origin, but also originates partially from the foreign source containing very heavy ${\delta}^{34}S$ component such as an ancient sea water. However, the presence of $H_2S$ can not be ignore the affact of the isotopic fractionation to explaine the heavy ${\delta}^{34}S$ of thermal spring water. Overall, the Oxygen and Hydrogen stable isotopes can identify the source and the circulation system of the natural waters and the S-isotopes can provide a crucial clue on tracing the dissolved material transports in the circulation system of the natural water.

  • For underpasses in Yeongjong Sky City business district, the guided drainage system, as a buoyancy prevention system has been designed, and is under construction. This paper investigates the safety of the guided drainage system for underpass structures being constructed in Yeongjong Sky City business district. This paper also calculates the amount of outflowing groundwater generated by the guided drainage system, and proposes alternative usages of the water. In order to investigate safety and field applicability of the guided drainage system for underpasses, characteristics of the surface flow for the area of interest have been analyzed, and the flow change of groundwater following the underpass structure construction has been evaluated using the 3-dimensional groundwater program MODFLOW. The influence of ground water on safety of the underpass structures has been calculated by FLAC2D analysis. For alternative usages for the outflowing groundwater generated by the guided drainage system, utilization methods of the outflowing groundwater in national and international resources have been researched. The amount of an outflowing groundwater to be generated in the area of interest has been analyzed, and efficient potential usages of this groundwater have been researched. When guided drainage technique is applied, the change in flow of groundwater must be evaluated and considered as safety factor relating to the buoyancy of the structure. As a result, safety factor demonstrated more than 1.2, meaning that the underpass structure is safe. The amount of subsoil drain generated by the guided drainage system was also analyzed. The quality and amount of water satisfied the standards and volume requirements, so as to make it applicable for a number of uses, such as X, Y, and Z, and should prove to be a valuable resource as the circumstances of the neighboring area change over time. These resources can be used as basic data for future urban water circulation studies, as well as generating research of alternative water usages.

  • In this study, the experiment was carried out to produce methane by applying Semi-Continuous Leachate Recirculation Anaerobic Digestion System fed with source separated food waste from school cafeteria. There were two systems and each system consisted of a bioreactor and a liquid tank. Each bioreactor had a screen near the bottom of the reactor. 2.5L of separated liquid was transferred to the liquid tank for 30min each day by using a tubing pump and the liquid from the liquid tank was pumped to the bioreactor at the upper of the bioreactor as soon as the transfer was ended. Through this circulation, the liquid having high concentration of VFAs was supplied to the top of bioreactor. At the beginning of the experiment, food waste/inoculum anaerobic sludge volume ratio was 2:8 that is 9g VS/L of OLR(Organic Loading Rate). Feeding was conducted every two weeks. Experimental results showed that the contents of moisture, combustible matter, ash were 65.91%, 32.73%, and 1.36%, respectively. Two different food waste loading were studied. The average organic loading rates were 3.51g VS/d for System A and 3.86g VS/d for System B, respectively. The average produced methane based on food waste fed to bioreactor were observed as $6.30m^3CH_4/kgVS{\cdot}d$ for system A and $4.94m^3CH_4/kgVS{\cdot}d$ for System B, respectively.

  • The fashion industry is considered hazardous and a threatened to the environment. Due the negative perception, the industry should focus on sustainability as a social role. Therefore, several redesign fashion collaborations mainly focusing on renewing abandoned resources are already in place. The research method was based on previous studies, and 3 characteristics were derived: Redesign collaboration between fashion companies, Redesign collaboration between fashion & heterogeneous industries, and Redesign collaboration between the fashion industry & non-profit organizations. Those 3 characteristics were reviewed using 4 criteria. First, to establish and maximize the sustainable brand image and to be the best examples in environmental management, the organization endeavors to collaborate with various industries, institutions, and designers. Second is the expansion of the customer network through the spread of value consumption. Third is the creation of new values through a resource circulation structure. This means that the resource circulation structure system helps the partners to minimize on wastage. Fourth is the spread of de-boundary lines and the possibility of brand growth. Through collaboration with other industries, the boundaries of materials used in the fashion industry started to blur, thus expanding the continuous brand growth potential. The study derived the characteristics of redesign collaboration by systematically analyzing the cases. Further, the study looks forward to analyzing the characteristics of the products processed by redesign fashion collaborations in future research.
