  • This paper presents a method to control group delay tine using a resonance circuit. The group delay time adjuster(GDTA) that can control signal group delay time comprises a variable capacitance and a variable equivalent inductor. These are coupled in parallel at a node and also controlled by two bias voltages separately, A variable equivalent inductor is realized a transmission line terminated a variable capacitor. Group delay time can be controlled by change of capacitance and inductance, but the resonating frequency is fixed. When the proposed GDTA is fabricated on RFID Korean frequency band$(908.5{\sim}914 MHz)$, a group delay variation is obtained about 3 ns.

  • As the aged population grows around the world, many medical instruments and devices have been developed recently. Among the devices, a drug delivery stent is a medical device which requires precision machining. Conventional drug delivery stent has problems of residual polymer and decoating because the drug is coated on the surface of stent with the polymer. If the drug is impregnated in micro hole array on the surface of the stent, the problem can be solved. Micro sized holes are generally fabricated by laser machining; however, the fabricated holes do not have an enough aspect ratio to contain the drug or a good surface finish to deliver it to blood vessel tissue. To overcome these problems, we propose a vibration-assisted machining mechanism with PZT (Piezoelectric Transducers) for the fabrication of micro sized holes. If the mechanism vibrates the eyepiece of the laser machining head, the laser spot on the workpiece will vibrate vertically because objective lens in the eyepiece shakes by the mechanism's vibration. According to the former researches, the vibrating frequency over 20kHz and amplitude over 500nm are preferable. The vibration mechanism has cylindrical guide, hollowed PZT and supports. In the cylinder, the eyepiece is mounted. The cylindrical guide has upper and low plates and side wall. The shape of plates and side wall are designed to have high resonating frequency and large amplitude of motion. The PZT also is selected to have high actuating force and high speed of motion. The support has symmetrical and rigid characteristics.

  • An ultrasonic technique was developed to characterize the resonance behavior of a microcantilever operating in a megahertz regime. A high-power ultrasonic pulser and a contact transducer were employed to excite the silicon microcantilever, and a Michelson interferometer was used to obtain the time domain waveform. The natural frequency of the microcantilever was evaluated through the fast Fourier transform of the signal, and a numerical analysis using the finite element method confirmed the measurement data. The present study proposes a novel and facile method to evaluate nanoscale materials and structures with high sensitivity compared to conventional approaches.

  • In this paper, a planar antenna that is small and light, is designed and analyzed aiming handset antenna of IMT-2000. Employing the Ensemble simulator based on a MoM, design-parameters are found to determine a resonant frequency. Therefore, it is analyzed with the Ensemble simulation and FDTD numerical for resonating at the allocated frequency for IMT-2000 in the fixed antenna dimension of 21$^{\circ}$wing angle that is a design parameter. Analyzing with FDTD method, Though the results of FDTD are very exact, this analysis introduces errors due to the staircasing approximation in the slope of bowtie. To reduce this error, it is divided to 4-ranges where the cell contains the boundary of perfect conductor/free space. Then, each range is calculated by different by different equation, which modify the H-field to add the component of the area and length of the cell filled with free space. Therefore, the modified FDTD algorithm provided with a narrow bandwidth of return loss calculated with a standard FDTD algorithm that can be extended to the desired ranges.

  • In this paper, we propose a magnetic resonant WPT(wireless power transfer) scenario using a large coil resonating at 6.78 MHz, and compare the characteristics through a three-dimensional electromagnetic field simulation and a magnetic resonant WPT equivalent circuit. The magnetic resonant WPT equivalent circuit proposed in this paper considers the parasitic capacitance generated between the coils in addition to the conventional equivalent circuit. Based on this analysis, we fabricated the magnetic resonant WPT coil and compared it with simulation prediction. As a result of comparison, the transfer characteristics and the resonance frequency shift can be predicted. Error proposed characteristics of equivalent circuit for the magnetic resonant WPT and the measured values are estimated to be ${\Delta}{\mid}S11{\mid}=1.31dB$ and ${\Delta}{\mid}S21{\mid}=1.21dB$, respectively.

  • In this paper, we present a small-sized and light weighted dual-band antenna for an access point of 2.4/5 GHz dual-band WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network). The antenna for WLAN should show the characteristic of omni-directional radiation pattern. First, to obtain the omni-directional radiation pattern the proposed dual-band antenna has an orthogonal inverted triangular type element at the center and locates four resonating elements symmetrically around it. Also, for the purpose of easy manufacturing and miniaturization of the antenna, we changed the central element which had the orthogonal inverted triangular type structure into the plate type. Measured $S_{11}$ for the proposed dual-band plate type antenna showed characteristic which was less then -12.8 dB for WLAN frequency bands. Measured results for the maximum gain showed 3.17 dBi at 2.44 GHz, 5.38 dBi at 5.77 GHz with omni-directional radiation pattern. The implemented antennas showed applicable performances for the access point of WLAN.

  • This study compared $F_{0}$ and the first three formants of eight Korean monophthongs produced by nine transgenders (male to female) to those of eighteen normal adults. Voice analysis was done by Praat (version 4.049). A one-way ANOVA with Tukey HSD post hoc tests were performed to determine statistical differences in $F_{0}$ and formant values obtained from transgenders, and normal male and female subjects. Results indicated that there was no significant difference in $F_{1}$ of /u/, /$\Lambda$/, and /o/, $F_{2}$ of /u/, /$\Lambda$/, and /i/ and $F_{3}$ of /u/ among the 3 groups (transgenders, normal males and normal females). However, in the comparison of transgenders vs. males, a significant difference was observed in $F_{0}$ of /o/, and $F_{2}$ of /i/, /a/, /e/, and /${\ae}$/ and $F_{3}$ of /e/. Furthermore, in the comparison of transgenders vs. females, a significant difference was also observed in $F_{0}$ of all vowels, $F_{1}$ of /i/, /$\alpha$/, /e/, /${\ae}$/, and /i/. $F_{2}$ of /i/, and /${\ae}$/, and $F_{3}$ of /i/, /$\alpha$/, /$\Lambda$/, /e/, /${\ae}$/, /i/, and /o/. Also, perceptual judgment of the transgenders' voice came out somewhat correlated strongly with their $F_{0}$ values but not much with the formant values. It was concluded that the transgenders' acoustic parameters are placed in between those of the normal males and females in. terms of fundamental and formant frequency analyses of vowels. Thus, it was assumed that those differences might stem from the transgenders' original big resonating cavities.

  • The slender structures such as high rise building or marine riser are highly susceptible to dynamic force exerted by fluid-structure interactions among which vortex-induced vibration(VIV) is the main cause of dynamic unstability of the structural system. If VIV occurs in natural frequency regime of the structure, fatigue failure likely happens by so-called lock-in phenomenon. This study presents the numerical analysis of dynamic behavior of both structure and fluid in the lock-in regimes and investigates the subjacent phenomena to hold the resonance frequency in spite of the change of flow condition. Unsteady and laminar flow was considered for a two-dimensional circular cylinder which was assumed to move freely in 1 degree of freedom in the direction orthogonal to the uniform inflow. Fluid-structure interaction was implemented by solving both unsteady flow and dynamic motion of the structure sequentially in each time step where the fluid domain was remeshed considering the movement of the body. The results show reasonable agreements with previous studies and reveal characteristic features of the lock-in phenomena. Not only the lift force but also drag force are drastically increasing during the lock-in regime, the vertical displacement of the cylinder reaches up to 20% of the diameter of the cylinder. The correlation analysis between lift and vertical displacement clearly show the dramatic change of the phase difference from in-phase to out-of-phase when the cylinder experiences lock-in. From the results, it can be postulated that the change of phase difference and flow condition is responsible for the resonating behavior of the structure during lock-in.

  • In this paper, we proposed a 13.56 MHz wireless power transfer system using loop antennas with tunable impedance matching circuits. In general, a wireless power transfer system shows an impedance mismatching due to a reflected impedance, because a coupling coefficient is varied with respect to separation distance between two resonating antennas. The proposed system can compensate the effect of this impedance mismatch owing to tunable impedance matching circuits using varactor diodes. Therefore, transmission efficiency is enhanced, moreover, the center frequency of the system is not changed, regardless of separation distance between two antennas. In order to demonstrate the performance of the proposed system, a wireless power transfer system with tunable impedance matching circuits is designed and implemented, which has a pair of loop antennas with a dimension of $30\;cm{\times}30\;cm$ cm. The input return loss, coupling coefficient, efficiency, and input impedance variation with respect to a distance between loop antennas were measured. From measured results, the proposed system shows enhanced performances than the case of the general fixed $50\;{\Omega}$ impedance matching circuits. Therefore, we verified that the proposed wireless power transfer system using the proposed impedance matching scheme will be able to ensure robust operation even when the separation distance of antennas is varied.
