  • The design procedures and experimental results of a single-stage electronic ballast using half-bridge resonant inverter are presented in this paper. The proposed topology is based on a single-stage ballast which combines a boost converter and a half-bradge series resonant inverter. High power factor is achieved by using the boost semi-stage operating in discontinuous conduction mode and inverter semi-stage operated above resonant frequency to provide zero voltage switching is empolyed to ballast the fluorescent lamp Experimental results from the ballast system with 36W fluorescent

  • A vibrating angular rate sensor with tuning fork type resonator of microstructure (940*820 .mu. m$^{2}$) was designed and will be fabricated by polysilicon surface micromaching. The angular rate sensor is driven in a lateral direction by electrostatic force of comb drive electrodes, and vertical vibrations of the sensor, thich is detected capacitively, are produced by Coriolis forces due to an external angular rate. Mechanical Q factors and a difference between the frequencies of the two resonant modes, the driving mode and detecting mode, play a great role in increasing the sensitivity of the sensor. To be a highly sensitive sensor, it was designed to have as small frequency discrepancy of the two resonant modes as possible. Finite element method was used for the modal analysis. Several design parameters were selected and their contributions to the modal frequencies were investigated. A method was presented for tuning the detecting mode frequency by DC bias on the drive electrodes.

  • This paper describes the mode identification of resonant frequencies in dielectric loaded circular cylindrical cavity. To identify the mode of resonant frequencies, the calculated resonant frequencies were compared with the simulated ones in the air-filled circular cylindrical cavity by Microstripes EM simulator. With z-oriented magnetic field excitation, we could get only TE mode resonance, while all the modes including TM mode were observed with $\phi$-oriented magnetic field excitation. We could identify the modes with the two excitation methods. We applied the identification method to a dielectric loaded circular cylindrical cavity and compared these results with experimental ones. To certify the method, we traced resonance frequencies with varying the dielectric height. We observed that the resonance of $TE_{011}$ mode was changed dramatically while the variation of the $TE_{111}$ and $TE_{211}$ modes are relatively small.

  • This paper proposed that a AC-DC Converter topology of high power factor with soft switching mode operates with four chopper connecting a number of parallel circuit. To improve these, a large number of soft switching topologies included a resonant circuit have been proposed. And, some simulative results on computer is included to confirm the validity of the analytical results. The partial resonant circuit makes use of a inductor using step up and a condenser of loss-less snubber. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of system is high. And the snubber condenser used in partial resonant circuit makes charging engergy regenerated at input power source for resonant operation. The proposed conversion system is deemed the most suitable for high power applications where the power switching devices are used.

  • This paper proposed a new partial resonant 3.PHI. AC-DC boost converter of high efficiency using lossless snubber. The proposed converter, DCM (Discontinuous Current Mode) has a merit of simple controlled circuit because the input current control discontinuously. But turned off switching loss and stress of the switching device increase when the switch turned off at the peak of current. Therefore, the paper improves efficiency by adopting the PRS$^{2}$(Partial Resonant Soft Switching) in 3.PHI. AC-DC boost converter and makes the unity power factor. The PRS$^{2}$ is reduced a current/voltage stresses of switching devices. Also, a DCMPRS$^{2}$M(Discontinuous Conduction Mode Partial Resonant Soft Switching Method) appear the current and voltage equation of this circuit. The paepr examine in a 3.PHI. AC-DC boost converter and show the result of that.

  • Effects of various baffle designs on acoustic characteristics in combustion chamber are numerically investigated by adopting linear acoustic analysis. A hub-blade configuration with five blades is selected as a candidate baffle and five variants of baffles with various specifications are designed depending on baffle height and hub position. As damping parameters, natural-frequency shift and damping factor are considered and the damping capacity of various baffle designs is evaluated. Increase in baffle height results in more damping capacity and the hub position affects appreciably the damping of the first radial resonant mode. Depending on baffle height, two close resonant modes could be overlapped and thereby the damping factor for one resonant mode is increased exceedingly. The present procedure based on acoustic analysis is expected to be a useful tool to predict acoustic field in combustion chamber and to design the passive control devices such as baffle and acoustic resonator.

  • The length extensional vibration mode of a piezoelectric ceramic substrate is used in fabricating the ultra-small size resonators and filters. In general, the three side ratios of the substrate effect the resonant characteristics of the resonator using its length extensional vibration. In this paper, their relationships are studied. We know that changing the ratio of its length to its width makes possible to change the resonant frequency of the width vibration without degrading the length extensional vibration.

In general, the three side ratios of the rectangular substrate affect the resonant characteristics of the resonator using its length extensional vibration. In this paper, their relationships are studied. We know that changing the ratio of its length to its width makes possible to change the resonant frequency of the width vibration without degrading the length extensional vibration. And frequency constant for length extensional vibration becomes slightly small as the substrate thickness becomes thin, but it does not change as its length changes. Electro-mechanical coupling factor for length extensional vibration, k$\_$31/ does not change as its length changes within length/width$\geq$4, but it becomes small as its width increases.

  • In this paper, an interleaved boost converter (IBC) with ZVT cell using a single resonant inductor in continuous conduction mode (CCM) is proposed. The IBC with the proposed ZVT cell has advantages such as a simple circuit, reduced size and low cost by using a single resonant inductor. It is more suitable for high power applications. The proposed ZVT cell circuit and principles for the IBC are explained in detail. The validity of the IBC with proposed ZVT cell is verified through experimental results.
