  • This paper presents a novel prototype of three-phase voltage source type zero voltage soft-switching inverter with the auxiliary resonant snubbers suitable for high-power applications with IGBT power module packages in order to reduce their switching power losses as well as electromagnetic conductive and radiative noises. A proposed single inductor-assisted resonant AC link snubber circuit topology as one of some auxiliary resonant commutation snubbers developed previously to achieve the zero voltage soft-switching (ZVS) for the three-phase voltage source type sinewave PWM inverter operating under the instantaneous space voltage vector modulation is originally demonstrated as compared with the other types of resonant AC link snubber circuit topologies. In addition to this, its operation principle and unique features are described in this paper. Furthermore, the practical basic operating performances of the new conceptual instantaneous space voltage vector modulation resonant AC link snubber-assisted three-phase voltage source type soft-switching PWM inverter using IGBT power module packages are evaluated and discussed on the basis of switching voltage and current waveforms, output line to line voltage quality, power loss analysis, actual power conversion efficiency and electromagnetic conductive and radiative noises from an experimental point of view, comparing with those of conventional three-phase voltage source hard-switching PWM inverter using IGBT power modules.

  • A zero voltage switching (ZVS) three level auxiliary resonant commutated pole inverter (ARCPI) is presented for high power GTO inverters. The concept of ARCP for two level inverter is extended to the three inverter. The proposed auxiliary commutation circuit consists of one resonant inductor and two bi-directional switches, which provides ZVS condition to the main devices without increasing device voltage or current stresses. The auxiliary device operates with zero current switching (ZCS) which enables use of the low cost thyristors. The proposed ARCPI can handle higher voltage and higher power (1-10MVA) comparing to the two level one. Operation and analysis of the ARCPI are illustrated and the features are compared o those of the snubber circuit incorporated three level inverter. Experimental results with 10kW, 4kHz prototype are presented to verify the principle of operation. (author). refs., figs., tab.

  • The present article reports an analysis and investigation of a direct AC-AC quasi-resonant converter. A bidirectional power device, whose switching frequency is lower than the frequency of the current passing through the load, is used for its realization. The zero voltage switching mode is described when zero voltage on the power device is available by measuring it with the control system. The continuous current in the resonant inductance by switching the power device at zero voltage is considered, and it is characterized by two sub-modes. A mathematical analysis of the processes has been made and comparative results from the computer simulation and experimental study have been brought. The converter can be used in a wide areas of power electronics: induction heating, wireless power transfer, AC-DC converters, etc.

  • A algorithm for control and performance of a pulse-density-modulated (PDM) series-resonant voltage source inverter developed for corona-dischange precesses is presented. The PDM inverter produces either a square-wave ac-voltage state or a zero-voltage state at its ac terminals to control the average output voltage under constant dc voltage and operating frequency. Moreover it can achieve zero-current-switching (ZCS) and zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) in all the operating condition for a reduction of switching lost. Even though the corona discharge load with a strong nonlinear characteristics, new high frequency resonant inverter is shown the wide range power control from 5% to 100%.

  • In this paper, soft switching bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed. The proposed topology is added two auxiliary switches, two resonant capacitors and one resonant inductor to convectional bidirectional DC-DC converter. Therefore, this proposed topology can reduce switching loss of each power switch by ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) and ZCS (Zero Current Switching). We have performed mode analysis, simulation and experiment for the proposed topology.

  • This paper proposes a soft switching boost converter with an auxiliary resonant circuit. The auxiliary resonant circuit is added to a general boost converter and that is composed of one switch, one diode, one inductor and two capacitors. The resonant network helps the main switch to operate with a zero voltage switching(ZVS) and auxiliary switch also operates under the zero voltage and zero current conditions. The soft switching range is extended by the auxiliary switch and it is possible to control the proposed converter with a pulse width modulation(PWM). The ZVS and ZCS techniques make switching losses decreased and efficiency of the system improved. A theoretical analysis is verified through the simulation and experiment.

  • In the resonant converters which can provide high efficiency and high power density, the resonant voltage stress is about 4-5 times the input voltage. It needs the power switch with high ratings. This is a reason why the conduction loss is increased. In this paper, it proposes the alternately zero voltage switched forward, flyback multi resonant converter topology for reducing the voltage stress using alternately zero voltage switching technique. And the proposed AT forward MRC is experimentally considered about the loop gain with HP4194A network analyzer.

  • In the buck-boost DC-DC converter which is used at a certain situation such as in factories where loads often change a lot, the switches in the device make big energy loss in operating at Buck-Boost Mode due to hard switching and are affected by lots of stresses which decrease the efficiency rate of the converter. In order to improve this problem, to decrease the loss of snubber and switching, it has been investigated that zero voltage switching mode and zero current switching mode which make the operation of switches with soft switching. For the more sophisticated and advanced device, this paper is presented the Partial Resonant Soft Switching Mode Power Converter which is adapted the power converter having the partial resonant soft switching mode, that makes switches operate when the resonant current or voltage becomes zero by making the resonant circuit partially at turning on and off of the switches with suitable layout of the resonant elements and switch elements in the converter. Also, this paper includes the analysis and simulation of the Partial Resonant type Buck-Boost Chopper.

  • A new SPWM inverter using three-phase boost converter by auxiliary partial resonant with high power factor and high efficiency is proposed. The proposed boost converter is constructed by using a resonant network in parallel with the switch of the conventional boost converter. The devices are switched at zero voltage or zero current eliminating the switching loss. A new Partial resonant boost converter achieves zero-voltage switching (ZVS) or zero-current switching (ZCS) for all switch devices without increasing their voltage and current stresses. This paper introduces elimination of low-order harmonics compared with conventional SPWM inverter and SPWM inverter using three-phase boost converter by auxiliary Partial resonant.
