  • Line heating is a forming process which makes the curved surface with the residual strain created by applying heat source of high temperature to steel plate. in order to control the residual strain, it is necessary to understand not only conductive heat transfer between heat source and steel plate, but also temperature distribution of steel plate. In this paper we attempted to analyze is temperature distribution of steel plate by simplifying a line heating process to collision-effusive flux of high temperature and high velocity, and conductive heat transfer phenomenon. To analyze this, combustion in the torch is simplified to collision effusive phenomenon before analyzing turbulent heat flux. The distribution of temperature field between the torch and steel plate is computed through turbulent heat flux analysis, and the convective heat transfer coefficient between effusive flux and steel plate is calculated using approximate empirical Nusselt formula. The velocity of heat flux into steel plate is computed using the temperature distribution and convective heat transfer coefficient, and temperature field in the steel plate is obtained through conductive heat transfer analysis in which the traction is induced by velocity of heat flux. In this study, Finite Element Method is used to accomplish turbulent heat flux analysis and conductive heat transfer analysis. FEA results are compared with empirical data to verify results.

  • BACKGROUND: Residual organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) are chemical substances that persist in the environment, bioaccumulate through the food web, and pose a risk of causing adverse effect to human health and the environment. They were designated as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) by Stockholm Convention. Greenhouse strawberry is economic crop in agriculture, and its cultivation area and yield has been increased. Therefore, we tried to investigate the POPs residue in greenhouse soil and strawberry.METHODS AND RESULTS: Extraction and clean-up method for the quantitative analysis of OCPs was developed and validated by gas chromatography (GC) with electron capture detector (ECD). The clean-up method was established using the modified quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe(QuEChERS) method for OCPs in soil and strawberry. Limit of quantitation (LOQ) and recovery rates of OCPs in greenhouse soil and strawberry were 0.9-6.0 and 0.6-0.9 μg/kg, 74.4-115.6 and 75.6-88.4%, respectively. The precision was reliable sincerelative standard deviation (RSD) percentage (0.5-3.7 and 2.9-5.2%) was below 20, which was the normal percent value. The residue of OCPs in greenhouse soil was analyzed by the developed method, and dieldrin, β-endosulfan and endosulfan sulfate were detected at 1.6-23, 2.2-28.4 and 1.8-118.6 μg/kg, respectively. Those in strawberry were not detected in all samples.CONCLUSION: Dieldrin, β-endosulfan and endosulfan sulfate in a part of investigated greenhouse soil were detected. But those were not detected in investigated greenhouse strawberry. These results showed that the residue in greenhouse soil were lower level than bioaccumulation occurring.

  • We tested for residual pesticide levels in school foodservice agricultural products in Seoul, Korea from 2010 to 2012. A total of 316 samples of 23 different types of agricultural products were analyzed via gas chromatography-nitrogen phosphate detector (GC-NPD), an electron capture detector (GC-${\mu}ECD$), a mass spectrometry detector (GC-MSD), and a high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detector (HPLC-UV). We used multi-analysis methods to analyze 185 different pesticide types. Among the selected agricultural products, residual pesticides were detected in 26 samples (8.2%), of which 6 samples (1.9%) exceeded the Korea Maximum Residue limits (MRLs). We detected pesticide residue in more than 65% of the Chwinamul, while 6 among 9 analyzed samples contained pesticide residue, and 1 sample exceeded the Korea MRLs. Among the 185 kinds of pesticides that we have tested, 18 were detected, while 7 of them were detected more than twice. Data obtained were then used for estimating the potential health risks associated with the exposures to these pesticides. The most critical commodity is carbofuran in the perilla leaves, which has contributed 3.8% to the hazard index (HI). These results showed that the detected pesticides could not be considered as a serious public health problem. Nevertheless, constant supervision is recommended.

  • The residue analysis of the insecticide thiodicarb in sweet persimmon was analyzed with a gas chromatograph equipped with nitrogen phosphorus detector(NPD) to evaluate efficacy of analysis method and safety of thiodicarb in persimmon. Minimum detectable amount of methomyl oxime, hydrolysate of thiodicarb, was 0.2 ng and detection limit of thiodicarb was 0.05 ppm. The mean recoveries evaluated from untreated samples spiked at 0.5 ppm and 2.5 ppm were $93.9{\pm}3.9$ and $92.8{\pm}2.0%$, respectively. When thiodicarb was sprayed onto the sweet persimmon two times until 40 and 30 days before harvest, three times until 40, 30 and 21 days before harvest, and four times until 40, 30, 21 and 14 days before harvesting, the mean residual amount in sweet persimmon were $1.50{\pm}0.04$, $1.86{\pm}0.04$ and $2.11{\pm}0.12$ ppm, respectively. It would be safe when thiodicarb 40% WP is treated four times 14 days before harvesting to control fruit moth in sweet persimmon.

  • Multiresidue method was set up for the simultaneous determination of various residual pesticides in potatoes and carrots, which was analyzed by gas chromatography-electron capture detector/nitrogen phosphorus detector. Method consisted with acetone/acetonitrile (9 : 1) extraction and dichloromethane partition, followed by florisil cartridge purification with hexane/dichloromethane/acetonitrile (50 : 45 ; 5) elution. Among 197 pesticides (194 kinds) spiked to food materials, 143 and 155 pesticides were recovered over 70% on potatoes and carrots, respectively. Nineteen pesticides including bromacil, cyproconazole, were not detected in water and sample matrices. Matrix components may affect the low detections of 25 pesticides such as benfuracarb, bitertanol from potatoes and 16 pesticides such as bitertanol, carbosulfan from Carrots. Some pesticides including dichlobenil, fluoroimide and iprodione were highly detected from one or both matrices even though they were not detected from water.

  • This study used gas chromatography combined with the microelectron capture detection method to determine the most effective washing and cooking methods for removing isoprothiolane from rice. The initial isoprothiolane concentrations in brown and polished rice, before washing, were 17.03 mg/kg and 1.67 mg/kg, respectively. Residual concentrations declined with more washing cycles (19.3-59.3% for brown rice; 43.1-66.5% for polished rice); and by increasing the temperature of the washing water from 5℃ to 40℃ (56.6-63.1% for brown rice; 67.1-74.9% for polished rice). Hand-washing samples using gentle stirring or harsh rubbing reduced pesticide concentrations by 63.1-71.6% for brown rice, versus 75.4-87.4% for polished rice. Reduction in isoprothiolane concentrations varied based on the rice cooker type and whether the rice was pre-soaked. Immediate cooking using an electric- or pressure-cooker showed 78.5% and 78.4% reduction in brown rice, compared with 94.0% and 94.0% for polished rice, respectively. Pre-cooking immersion for 30 min showed similar reductions of 83.4% and 83.4% in brown rice, versus 95.8% and 95.8% in polished rice. The results of this study suggest that the most effective method for removing residual isoprothiolane from both brown rice and polished rice was to wash six times (with vigorous rubbing during the 2nd and 3rd washing) in 7-fold water at 40℃, followed by immersion for 30 min before cooking. Regardless of the type of rice cooker, heating is sufficient to remove an average of 83.4% and 95.8% of isoprothiolane from brown rice and polished rice, respectively.

  • The $HfO_X$ thin film was deposited what it has been paid attention to the next generation oxide thin layer of MOSFET (metal-Oxide semiconductor field-effect-transistor) by rf magnetron sputter on Si (100) substrate. The $HfO_X$ thin film was deposited using a various oxygen gas flows (5, 10, 15 sccm). After deposition, $HfO_X$ thin films were annealed from 400 to $800^{\circ}C$ for 20 min in nitrogen ambient. The electrical characteristics of the $HfO_X$ thin film was improved by leakage current properties, depending on the increase of oxygen gas flow and annealing temperature. In particular, the properties of nano-mechanics of $HfO_X$ thin films were measured by AFM and Nano-indenter. From the results, the maximum indentation depth at the basis of maximum indentation force was increased from 24.9 to 38.8 nm according to increase the annealing temperature. Especially, the indentation depth was increased rapidly at $800^{\circ}C$. The rapid increasement of indentation depth was expected to be due to the change of residual stress in the $HfO_X$ thin film, and this result was caused by relative flux of oxygen outgasing during the annealing process.

  • Analytical method of carbofuran (2,3-dihydro-2, 2-dimethyl-7-benzofuranyl methyl carbamate) residues and its persistence in rice seeds, rice seedlings, rice plants and soils were studied by gas-liquid chromatographic analysis using electron capture detector. 1. The effective column material for clean-up is Florisil (5% $H_2O$)+Alumina (4% $H_2O$)+absorbent mixture with rinsing the first 300l of eluants to remove impurities in the column materials. 2. The method of applying an gelatin encapsulated carbofuran to the root zone of rice plant is the longest persistence in its residues. 3. By seed treatment, no carbofuran residues were detected in rice seeds and seedlings. 4. The amounts of carbofuran residues in rice seedlings is in proportion to the soaking time of rice seedlings in carbofuran solution rather than the concentration of the chemical. 5. Applying carbofuran by root zone has the higher and the loger residual effect than broadcast. 6. Persistence of carbofuran in the high clay content soil is longer than in the low clay content soil. 7. No carbofuran residue was detected in rough rice at havesting time.

  • Recently just as in the automobile industry, shipbuilders also try to reduce material consumption and weight in order to keep operating costs as low as possible and improve the speed of production. Naturally industry is ever searching for welding techniques offering higher power, higher productivity and a better quality. Therefore it is important to have a details research based on the various welding process applied to steel and other materials, and to have the ability both to counsel interested companies and to evaluate the feasibility of implementation of this process. Submerged-arc welding (SAW) process is usually used about 20% of shipbuilding. Similar to gas metal arc welding(GMAW), SAW involves formation of an arc between a continuously-fed bare wire electrode and the work-piece. The process uses a flux to generate protective gases and slag, and to add alloying elements to the weld pool and a shielding gas is not required. Prior to welding, a thin layer of flux powder is placed on the work-piece surface. The arc moves along the joint line and as it does so, excess flux is recycled via a hopper. Remaining fused slag layers can be easily removed after welding. As the arc is completely covered by the flux layer, heat loss is extremely low. This produces a thermal efficiency as high as 60% (compared with 25% for manual metal arc). SAW process offers many advantages compared to conventional CO2 welding process. The main advantages of SAW are higher welding speed, facility of workers, less deformation and better than bead shape & strength of welded joint because there is no visible arc light, welding is spatter-free, fully-mechanized or automatic process, high travel speed, and depth of penetration and chemical composition of the deposited weld metal. However it is difficult to application of thin plate according to high heat input. So this paper has been focused on application of the field according to SAW process for thin plate in ship-structures. For this purpose, It has been decided to optimized welding condition by experiments, relationship between welding parameters and bead shapes, mechanical test such as tensile and bending. Also finite element(FE) based numerical comparison of thermal history and welding residual stress in A-grade 3.2 thickness steel of SAW been made in this study. From the result of this study, It makes substantial saving of time and manufacturing cost and raises the quality of product.

  • Trihalomethanes (THMs) are formed as a results of the reaction of residual chlorine, used as a disinfectant in drinking water, with the organic matter in raw water. Although chlorinated and brominated THMs are the most common disinfection byproducts (DBPs) reported, iodinated THMs (I-THMs) can be formed when iodide is present in raw water. I-THMs have been usually associated with several medicinal or pharmaceutical taste and odor problems and is a potential health concern since they have been reported to be more toxic than their brominated and chlorinated analogs. Currently, there is no published standard analytical method for I-THMs in water. An automated headspace-gas chromatography/electron capture detector (GC/ECD) technique was developed for routine analysis of 10 THMs including 6 I-THMs in water samples. The optimization of the method is discussed. The limits of detection (LOD) and limits of quantification (LOQ) range from 12 ng/L to 56 ng/L and from 38 ng/L to 178 ng/L for 10 THMs, respectively. Matrix effects in river water, sea water and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) final effluent water were investigated and it was shown that the method is suitable for the analysis of trace levels of I-THMs, in a wide range of waters. The method developed in the present study has the advantage of being rapid, simple and sensitive.
