  • In the location science, environmental effect becomes a new main consideration for site selection. For the unwanted facility location selection, decision makers should consider the cost of resolving the environmental conflict. We introduced the negative influence cost for the facility which was inversely proportional to distance between the facility and residents. An unwanted facility location problem was suggested to minimize the sum of the negative influence cost and the transportation cost. The objective cost function was analyzed as nonlinear type and was neither convex nor concave. Three GRASP (Greedy Randomized adaptive Search Procedure) methods as like Random_GRASP, Epsilon_GRASP and GRID_GRASP were developed to solve the unwanted facility location problem. The Newton's method for nonlinear optimization problem was used for local search in GRASP. Experimental results showed that quality of solution of the GRID_GRASP was better than those of Random_GRASP and Epsilon_GRASP. The calculation time of Random_GRASP and Epsilon_GRASP were faster than that of Grid_GRASP.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the elderly housing farcility design preference by comparing two groups, the present residents living in elderly housing facility and the middle aged. The latter has more housing experiences and more design oriented standard of selecting house for quality of living, while the aged are oriented more in economy and investment. It is identified that both group preferred living in elderly housing facility best to any other elderly housing type, including "aging in place." The aged are not yet very concerned about physically homelike design features, but when the middle aged need the elderly housing, it is recommended that more variety and amenity in its type, location, plan and design features. The idealistic facility planning and management system were suggested.

  • Japan is one of the countries where the number of the elderly people is most rapidly increasing. This study aims to locate the suitable areas for the lodgings of elderly people, using Geographical Information System (GIS). We focused on the areas where the residents can live a usual and customary life, which includes walking, shopping, hospitalizing etc. Combining the geographical and municipal data along with some other information obtained from social factors, we performed selection of the optimal locations for welfare institutions. Out of 413 areas within Nagasaki City three different areas were found suitable for such elderly people lodging.

  • The aim of this study is to search for the meaning and direction of sound environment preservation in Korea through the concept of soundscape. In order to achieve the goals, it was analyzed the similarities and differences on the contents of "100 The beautiful sounds of Korea - 1999" and "100 Soundscapes of Japan - 1996" in view of the intents of selection, the process of selection, and the construction of the results. The result show that there are the both similarities and differences on the intent and the process of selection, types and extent of sound samples, interactions among human-sound environment-region, the identities of the regions as well as the recognized sound environment. Also, the result shows that it is very important to preserve ecological, social, and cultural sound environment of the region. In order to practice this ideology of soundscape in Korea, there is a necessity for converting people's consciousness and participating voluntary residents' movement.

  • In this study, various aspects of site selection for constructing new public library by development of urban community were investigated. These are legal aspects, geographical characteristics, and criteria of selecting conditions of location for new building. In order to select the suitable site in the Jeon Ju City, the various statistical data and indices with regard to information and cultural activities of the local residents and a statistical data was investigated. And also, a user question investigation was executed. The vision and objectives of establishing new pubic libraries were presented, based on the result of the study. • 'Waiting for a Thousand Years & Mingling with World People-Gangneung Danoje Festival 2017 as an Important Intangible Cultural Property' is the festival with the longest history in Korea. In spite of its historical value, however, there are not many academic researches on the value of festival brand equity. Thus, the objective of this study is to empirically analyze the influence relationship between selection attributes of festival storytelling, brand equity, brand attitude, and brand loyalty through the structural equation model. Regarding the spatial scope of thesis material, a survey was conducted focusing on 657 tourists visiting the Gangneung Danoje Festival. In the results of verifying the hypotheses in accordance with the structural equation model, the selection attributes of festival storytelling had effects on the brand equity, and the brand equity had effects on the brand attitude and brand loyalty while the brand attitude had effects on the brand loyalty. Based on such results of this study, the implications could be suggested as follows. First, the local contents culture should be developed together with local experts and residents by finding its local custom. Second, the brand equity that could prioritize the strategy of characteristics should be increased by emphasizing the selection attributes of storytelling. Third, the phased development should be achieved through local residents' open participation by dividing roles of experts and non-experts as festival manpower.

  • Recently, LNG power plants are increasing drastically and the desire of an improvement in the quality of life is growing. The delay of power plant construction can hinder the stability of power supply and increase the cost. So this study was conducted to help power plant construction progressing from now on by studying on the social acceptance of a LNG power plant. On this study I limited the scope of the study to the stage of Site Selection which is the most conflict stage and can interrupt the project. To conduct this study I researched the recently constructed power plants which have been delayed, in particular Eumseong Natural Power Plant and Daegu LNG Power Plant which are under bitter conflicts with local residents and have difficulty in construction progressing. So I found out that it is very important to collect the opinions of the residents in the stage of Site Selection and it is necessary to change ACT ON ASSISTANCE TO ELECTRIC POWER PLANTS- NEIGHBORING AREAS. Lastly it is very important to adapt the state-of-the-art facilities to increase the social acceptance of a LNG power plant.

  • In response to the government's recent attempts to introduce competition and efficiency criteria in the rural railway service provision, this study is to empirically estimate public service values on continuous operation of two rural railways-Young Dong Line (YDL) and Donghae Nambu Line (DNL)-that will be realized beyond the passengers' use values. Based on a contingent valuation survey conducted on 600 passengers and local residents, YDL respondents were willing to pay significantly higher amount compared to those of DNL respondents. Especially tourists traveling on YDL were willing to pay the highest amount, and local residents of DNL were willing to pay relatively high amount. The results will provide useful information in makings decisions on the selection of PSO railways, the amount of PSO compensation and which railways to close, so on.

  • Understand that forming urban images and improving urban identity play an important role in the competitiveness of cities with resident-participating villages, local governments began to focus on selection and management of physical components to form urban identity. Recently, when the quality of urban scenes is posed as a problem, urban beautification projects including urban environment reorganization and scenery management are being actively conducted in many cities. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the characteristics of cases of Japan, England, and USA in which the local governments conduct resident-participating villages to establish a frame of analysis, to classify the purposes, directions, contents and properties of projects, scenes, and formation of villages based on the established frame of analysis, to deduce suggestions from the view of urban scenes and formation of villages, and to present basic measures for developing projects with which local residents can form villages centered on urban scenes subjectively and autonomously in Korean local communities in the near future.

  • As policy for regional development in bottom-up style is introduced, each local government reflects opinion of regional residents and experts, and continues to strive for active use of regional capability and natural resources. As a result, there are active movements for regional development in Eup and Myeon unit or village unit inside local government. Comprehensive arrangement project in areas of Eup and Myeon is proceeded with a goal of improvement of life quality for regional residents through strengthening base function of Eup and Myeon areas and improving function of basic service by expanding facility of optimal level available to an unspecified number of the general public such as educational, cultural, welfare facility etc. in Eup and Myeon areas which are base space of rural communities. For analysis method of region for selecting areas where comprehensive arrangement project is done, this study suggested analysis of connection structure based on interaction and analysis of centrality. And empirical analysis was carried out with Buyeo province in Chungcheongnamdo.
